I still think Thomas can be anything he wants to be, really worked hard during the first two quarters, but let himself down over the next two.

I really like Adams, but is there a place for him atm? When Simmo and Shagga move on, I would love him in the team, but first of all we need to fast track Gavin.

Do it now.

Highly unlikely to go with Thomas, Campbell and Ross. All three very small and quick types. All crumbing forwards that can run through the midfield.

Great to see Rawlings in defense and out of the midfield! That's where I'd play him consistently.

That midfield looks much more likely to be damaging. Once JWS comes back, it will be punishing!

McMahon was told to get his running ability to the level where he will run the opposition into the ground. I suppose the selection committee wants to see that at VFL level before bringing him in.

One loss doesn't mean that you cut savagely. Especially when so many players were down and far from their best.

Which implies that his wish to play in the midfield hasn't come only from himself. No problems with that, the only real query on him last year was on his ability to get to enough contests. If he can move his fitness up towards the level of a starting midfielder he could be extremely dangerous.

Edit: Shinboners has my wishes. I personally think going top heavy has been an off and on problem for us over the last few years. I think we need to select the talls we need and expect them to do the job.

I thought that McMahon was amongst our top 3 to 5 fittest players, especially in the running department, has he lost that fitness?
last year on one occasion I saw him and quite a few other boys doing a run, sprint thing round and round the oval at Arden street and he ended up lapping all the other boys thats how fit he was.

I'd be playing McMahon in front of Harding - almost irregardless of fitness - every day of the year.

There's nothing Harding does which McMahon cannot do better - down back, up forward, in the midfield, on the bench, on the dancefloor.

This is leaving aside Lower completely, who clearly has sideburns issues.

So let me get this straight. You'd be dropping Harding? Now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind having him out of the team either. Might go start a new thread...

I'd like to know why none of you expect Harding in that side?? I saw your game last week and Harding started average as you'd expect on the comeback trail, but really was pretty good as the game wore on and you guys were getting thrashed and it takes a good player to look good when your getting pummelled.

Maybe the fact that he was dropped from the team before being injured and the place he had then is now taken. This means that a lot of us are not fans of giving him games instantly without first earning them in the seconds. He looked 'good' as you put it in junktime. Not when the game was still winnable. Wasn't on his own either, but Daniel Wells, Andrew Swallow etc have done a hell of a lot more over the last couple of seasons to justify leniency.

Plenty of junk time action playing loose while Essendon bombed rank shit into their forward line in the last quarter.

It's nothing against Harding. McMahon is just better. It's simple.

It won't happen, but yeah. I don't need McMahon or Lower to win Brownlow votes from the twos before they get selected.

They did enough last year, and come from working hard on the rookie list, they should be the sort of automaton that Laidley immediately slots in.

Ab-so-f-ing-lutely. This is how Zondor and DF must feel when reading the other personalities posts.

FB: Gibson, Firrito, Pratt

HB: S. Thommo, Petrie, Rawlings

C: Hansen, Simpson, Thomas

HF: Jones, Edwards, Harvey

FF Ross, Thommo, Grant

R: Hamish, Wells, Harris

I: Campbell, Brown, Swallow, Hale, Watt, Power, Harding

--------------------------------------------------
Here's the way I'd like to see this team line up: Marked my changes in bold.

Hale on the bench as if he starts we look too top heavy and slow. Hale's best in tandem with H,.. pinch hitting from the bench if H's having a bad one or simply needs a rest. Ross adds speed and a bit of class and would look great getting front and centre to big Thommo. if he's out of his depth you can then bring on Flash as his replacement.

Swapped Jonesy with Shagga as I reckon he looks better with a bit of room to roam and any position where Shagga doesn't have to run too much is a good posi for him. In a pocket is where he can use his best assets. His knowledge of where to be at just the right time along with his ability as a goal kicker, gives the opposition something to worry about.

S.Thommo for Power. He wasn't bad last week and giving him another start would really boost his confidence. Power for mine will be a good average player at best, where as Scotty could be anything. Plus at the risk of putting my foot in it, we are playing Richmond who are being touted as spoon contenders again, therefore minimal risk.

I'd omit Brown, Watt and Harding leaving Hale, Power, Flash and Spits on the pine.

Oh, and by the way I'd rather have McMahon in for Power and Lower in for Flash, but as they haven't been picked well,..Ya gits what ya given.;)

Good to see Hansen in! Needs game time at the highest level at this stage.

McMahon would be nice in the side, but there are obviously reasons behind his continued ommission. Lets hope these are resolved soon, we are a better side when he plays with his skills, composure & vision great assets.

I'd just include Hansen for Watt.

They may try Ross, but I'd leave him for the Melbourne game if he plays well in the VFL game.

I'd keep Power in. I think at the Doggies has was constricted pretty heavily to being back pocket player, and the run of halfback was provided by McMahon and Hargreave and Gilbee. I think we should try and use his kicking to our advantage and maybe even have him on the wing, but ffs Dean not in the guts again

Here is how I think it will go:

Pratt Petrie Gibson
N.Brown Richo Hughes

S.Thompson Hansen Firrito
Pettifer Polak Deledio

Bench: Hale Power Swallow Harding

Ross to start on the ground, Rawlings to tag Jordan McMahon off half back.

Best of luck for the game North Melb, my sis is a huge roos fan so I will be going for your side (not like that means anything to you probably :)). I'll get to the point, do you think Scott Thompson will play because he is on my starting 22 in dream team and just a bit worried might be a player down. I was watching last weeks game and he seemed to start quite well but like the rest of the side, kinda dropped off. I was also think of getting in Hansen for him to be sure I had a full starting team, how would you rate his preseason?

Thanks again and good luck.
