Play Nice Scott Morrison in the Multiverse of Ministries.

As hard as it is for me to say this, I have to defend Morrison here.

I had started to think he was as bad as Trump, until reality bitch slapped me.

He really isn't.

Mind you, still a strong candidate for worst PM in history but still a long way from Trump.

You posted this after it went public that he was subverting cabinet in his own Government?

An excellent example of selecting the perfect picture to align with a story. Arrogance is as arrogance does.

Not advising Ministers that they have been relieved of their portfolios seems to me to be a perfect recipe for a potential constitutional crisis.

No surprises then that Prime Minister Albanese is seeking advice on the constitutional legality of Scott Morrison secretly swearing himself into multiple portfolios.

Would this mean that decisions made while Scott held those portfolios would all need to be reviewed to see if decisions approved by scomo vs official policy holder? That would seem expensive and perhaps for some decisions unproductive to wind back (but others may need to be) - won’t know until the time and money is spent to look.

Sigh.

It is very alarming that the most corrupt self serving government of Australia's history had the Prime Minister sign himself in as Finance Minister

What money did Morrison give to who?
And did he get extra pay for those portfolios? Where will ICAC start to look.... So many to choose from.

He saw himself as the Head of State not Government.

Possibly.

I would assume that the Office of the Governor General would have followed all Constitutional protocols in the appointment of Ministers.

IMHO The problem that emerges here is one of transparency - particularly in relation to government agencies themselves being fully aware of the changes in Ministers to ensure that legislative requirements in relation to the machinery of government are followed lawfully.

It is for this reason that changes of Ministerial responsibilities are normally clearly communicated via a Cabinet decision, gazetting or formal notification of the changes not just to the media but to agency heads. So that legal lines of authority and responsibility in executive government are understood and maintained during Ministerial changes. And also so that potential conflicts of interest are highlighted.

That even the previous Minister was not aware of the change signals a huge break down in the proper processes of government.

It is something that you could possibly forgive during a catastrophic crisis or emergency.

That this has occurred as a matter of course during business as usual government is a clear sign of how off the rails Scott Morrison was. The potential for unilateral decision making for personal benefit or corruption is all too obvious.

As our Tone would have stared gravely into the lense and proclaimed, it comes down to judgement and character, how can a man of such obvious inability be allowed by his Party to rise to the pinnacle of government in this country? Until they can prove that they can chose a person of both competence and character to lead them they'll be in Opposition, Morrison has done as yet untold damage to the Liberal Party brand.

Andrew Peacock's wife resigned over a $50 payment once. And look where we are now.

And not forgetting the resignation of the former Member for Port Adelaide, Mick Young, from Cabinet because his wife failed to declare a stuffed Paddington Bear when re-entering the country.

I bought a book from the Lion's Club bookshop in Tusmore Park recently and someone had been using a with compliments slip from his office that he'd signed as a bookmark.

So the only one that could even meet the test you state "forgive during catastrophic crisis or emergency" would be health minister one (unless the finance minister one occurred during COVID pandemic which seems unlikely given it was Cormann and that was pre pandemic). And even health minister one there would have been ample time to communicate this change after it had occurred.

Surely the Governor General should have to resign over this.

He has to follow the PM's instruction to swear in a Minister. But he's a separate branch of Government, so shouldn't have kept it a secret.

The Gov-General fund was dodgy already, now we see what it was payment for.

David Hurley's position is untenable. The Libs (and Hurley) have managed to tarnish a ceremonial position. (Also time to do away with that ceremonial position).

And while we're at it, Ministerial appointments should be gazetted by law. Might as well change both in the constitution at the same time as we bring in the Voice. Heck, have the Indigenous Voice Rep replace the GG in the ceremonial stuff.

Probably as close to a Tusmore bookshop that Mick would have ever got I imagine.

A former shearer and a man of the people with an intellect and an understanding of the Westminster system that was light years away from what Morrison offered up.

As a year 8 high school student I went to a pre-election public debate at Woodville Town Hall that a guy called Chick Hansen (a local chicken & chips shop owner - gettit?) had set up when he was running as the Liberal candidate against Mick. Mick let 'Chick' open the discussion and when it was his turn he stepped up to the microphone and simply invited everyone down to a local pub where he said he would buy the first round. Knock out in the first round. Poor 'Chick' never stood a chance.

We'd need to update the constitution so that the Monarch could perform their duties electronically etc.

Interesting that a constitutional law expect was on The World Today (ABC) and noted there was no public records from the GG that the ministerial appointments were made. They also indicated that there may have been some way of working around the GG that Morrison and Porter found.

It is scary what these populist frauds are doing to democracy.
