that game, for mine, the gut wrenching thing was the husband and wife playing against each other

Also, seeing Ali's face when he realises that Sang-Woo scammed him. I think that was the most emotionally brutal episode of the series.

yeah, that whole episode was full of it.. you had the husband and wife, 067's friend who dropped the marble purposely, the old dude, and then Ali

Just watched the first ep.

As someone that’s never watched (or had any interest in) Korean tv, that was bloody brilliant. Hooked after episode 1!
There are some great forgiven TV and movies around.. most people only see the shitty American knock off.
like that hunger games movie was a complete knock off of Battle Royale

this is one of my favourites.

Infernal Affairs is very much like the Departed (one of the few excellent movies “loosely” based on an original

and Oldboy were terribly remade. If you get the time I recommend you check some of these out, there are lots more too.

Finished it today and loved it overall. The VIPs were just a disgrace however. Their lines were pure shite and the actors even worse. The 8 (whatever the actual number is) scenes they were in were the 8 worst scenes of the show.

The marble episode was great but I didn't find Ali dying as gut wrenching as others have said. I found it more ridiculous that he would fall for that shit. The point of the game is if the other person gets all 20 marbles, you die, so he hands over his marbles... I know he's supposed to be strong, not smart but that was ridiculous. The rest of the episode was great. Loved when number 1 said the bit about taking marbles from an old confused guy is OK.

The bridge game was cool too but less enjoyable as VIPs interspersed with the game. Didn't like the end. Go see your daughter man and why'd it take you a year to fulfil your promise to the cute pickpocket. Loved the show overall though. Will give Alice in borderland a try next.

Change this text to a spoiler for those who haven't watched

Why? It's all available and the title says spoilers inside. Those not wanting it spoiled shouldn't be reading it. Like I didn't until just now. Pretty simple.
Because the Netflix thread is for general Netflix, if you go back people have been putting spoilers due to some coming to this thread do see if people recommend the show

Not to be pedantic, but the wording for the marble game was 'win' the other players 10 marbles. Given that Sang-woo DIDN'T win them, but rather stole them AFTER berating Ali for cheating was horrible. Smart by Sang-woo given he was down to his last marble to devise a strategy to stay in, but taking advantage of Ali was gutwrenching for mine, given he cheated the system and game essentially. He was the only player to progress that didn't technically win his marbles.

Interrupted the final stretch of a Sopranos re-watch to burn though this...didn't disappoint!

Execution was what really made it - the main story and themes aren't really breaking any new ground. The first episode really sets you on a course for what to expect, like episode 6. Even without knowing the details, you should be prepared for it at that point.

AFAIK there hasn't been any announcement on a S2 but obviously the ending asks for it and it's too big now for it to not happen. But it'll be interesting to see if it needs the games or can work as a pure revenge tale.

Absolutely loved it. Even the darl, who doesn't really like "Foreign" Stuff Loved it. Had to watch it dubbed (bit cringey, but could look past it as was invested in the story), which was unfortunate, she cant read and watch at the same time  lol.
Picked something was up with the old guy early. In Red light/Green light, he's smilling as he's running through the whole time, other games he is enjoying too much.
In Marbles too, there was 30 left, then when the games over, there was only 17 left in it. unless one pair couldn't work out a winner so they both died, but that would have been good to see for added drama.
Wasn't a fan of the ending, I get with a bit of Korean CInema its not always happily ever after. But felt like this could have been a good 1 and done and didn't need a second season. Definitely see the Cop not being dead after being shot in the shoulder.

Re S2, if its a revenge plot surely the Game wouldnt let him back in. Why not just go upto him in the street and bang bang?

I thought it was pretty good, I had to watch it mostly with the voice dubs on though which took away from the experience. It made a lot of the acting and dialogue seem really bad and cringy, but the story was great.

I watched some bits and pieces in Korean and found it a much better experience and show, but my ADHD just makes it impossible to sit down and focus on subtitles for like ~8hrs lol

Oh boy. Something came up on my fb and I was gob smacked. Watch episode 2 again and think about what happened to the main characters eventually. Pick pocket held a knife to someone's throat.....she copped a knife to the throat, Ali stole his money back....he died because his marbles were stolen. The thug escaped by jumping off the bridge...he died falling off the bridge and so on. Wowee!
