Yeah, so far the Bulldogs haven't really impressed. At least at 5-2 they haven't fallen off the pace. You're right - the next few weeks will give us a much stronger idea of where they are.

Just getting the 4 points is enough for us at the moment when you look at our forward and ruck stocks on the sidelines.

Even if we win, the squiggle just doesn't rate the way we go about it though

I like this but I think it would work better if you didn't include the results from the teams individual matchups. For example North are more likely to have their opponents have a higher points average because 5 of their opponents got 4 points by beating North. That's 20 points added to the opponents average, while the Crows only have 4 points added to their opponents average

It actually takes care of this a bit by comparing the current average premiership points of opponents to the average of all the other teams.

So the column that says "Avg points of others" is what that team would have faced if the fixture was perfectly fair.

If the ladder stays the way it is, then the Bulldogs get one hell of a run for defending premiers from the fixture. Of course I don't think the current ladder is set, but there is a stat somewhere about the small likelihood of huge change after round 10. It shows why using last years ladder as a guide to the fixture toughness is crazy talk.

North have had the toughest draw so far ... by a fair way, followed by the Hawks. Geelong / Bulldogs the easiest. Based on Premiership points:

This might give you an indication of who has got the tougher / easier fixture to come (based on results so far).

I find it's a bit whacky until about round 10 ... then trends start to emerge

Possibly promising signs for Hawthorn then. Second hardest draw as of now, but eases to 12th by the end of the season. A fair bit has to give in the meantime to rectify that. That's assuming that teams like Sydney/North/Collingwood aren't underestimated in terms of premiership points due to variance/timing of form, which I think they might be.

Freo stuffed their chance today to rise up the squiggle a bit, were 30 points up at 3 quarter time had the tigers 50 points below their expected score and were equal to our expected score already.

Need some big wins for the squiggle to start rating us

The squiggle doesn't care about wins & losses. It only cares about scores, and a team can do very well and still be negative on win/loss.

In other news, Swans first completely positive squiggle movement for the year. Hooray!

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I had similar thoughts after finding out that Richmond came from 30 points down at 3/4 time to hit the front with 21 seconds left, only to lose the game with a kick after the siren!

Can wait to see the Final Siren write-up for this week.

Looks like a bit of helium has escaped from the Crows and Suns squiggle this week.

The squiggle loves holding a side to sub 40 points but fair play to Port - They have conceded the least points this season.
