It would be a shame to tarnish Tait's career of integrity....but seriuosly hope there nothing in it. Doesn't look like it either.

The 3 accused Indian bowlers were paid upto $80k-$120k to bowl an over where 13-15 runs were scored! All 3 knew of each others dealings!

Having a look on cricinfo there is interesting commentary.

6.4
Chandila to Marsh, 3 runs, poor effort in the field by Sreesanth, it was a shorter one and cut, Sreesanth at the backward point dives it an hour before he should have, it sneaks through

3.6
Sreesanth to Gilchrist, FOUR, blasted back to the fence but it's not timed too well and still goes to the fence, fuller in length but it came slower than what Gilly expected, he had gone through with the shot and hits the toe end of the bat, Sreesanth pulls his hand out of the way and it rolls down to the fence

Wow. That commentary is pretty sad.

Don't have much interest in the IPL, but it's still a form of cricket and if the dodgy figures can get a stranglehold there with all the overpaid players, then sadly their grasp can (and probably has) spread.

6.4 Chandila to Marsh isn't part of one of the overs fixed (as far as we know). Right now, it's:

Pune Warriors and Rajasthan Royals on May 5, 2013, Chandila bowling the 3rd over of the innings, his second over

Rajasthan Royals v Kings XI Punjab on May 9 2013. Sreesanth bowling the 4th over of the innings, his second over

And last night's match against Mumbai. Chavan bowling the 3rd over of the innings, his second over

I want to know how the bookies actually make money out of this for it to be worthwhile.

Do they use this information to bet with other bookies?

I mean, if you win with legitimate bookmakers they will close your account, how do you think illegal bookies are going to deal with someone that is taking money from them...

Granted bookies could frame markets with the knowledge of what is going to happen, but they couldn't shift it too much from the norm or people are going to get suspicious. Over 13 runs in an over in a T20 is not completely outrageous or anything.

i would imagine it's a combination of betting with illegal bookies, framing the markets so that they are tilting the odds (further) in their favour.

i guess if you know sreesanth is going to bowl a shocker, then you juice the odds a bit on the low amounts to make them more attractive.

but i have always wondered, surely it's going to take at least 50k for a player to get involved, i know illegal betting in india is huge, but seriously, 50k with one bookie on one over? that seems crazy amounts. and that's just to break even. they'd probably be wanting to know that they're going to profit 50k, so making 100k overall.

they would also sell the information for other bookies for them to frame their markets. so they might say for 10k here's some info, you only need 5 bookies (in the example above) and your tilting your own market for free.

All these accusations of spot-fixing are racist. Spot-fixing has been going on for years and pretty much every player does it. Just because Sreesanth is successful, people are trying to tear him down. The rules really should be changed to accommodate spot-fixing of up to $15k.

/sarcasm

Lol wut? How long did the 'life' ban on Azharuddin last?

I am not sure what you mean by that. His ban was lifted by a court(not BCCI, Azhar actually fought against BCCI for that) last year. Neither he nor any of the other convicted(by BCCI) guys played for India again regardless of the duration of their bans.

I am not a fan of BCCI, but to be fair they have never been soft on dealing with fixing.

Champagne comedy. Indian cricket has swept corruption under the carpet for a long time.

Back in the early days of the IPL, we had this story: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/fears-ipl-stained-by-cheating/story-e6frg7mo-1225764167087

Which included this quote:

SOME Australian players who returned from the lucrative IPL tournament in May raised fears about possible match manipulation months before two of them were approached by suspected bookmakers on the tour of England.

While there is no evidence illegal bookmakers bought players or fixed IPL matches, there were fears about the integrity of the Indian tournament after it refused to enlist the International Cricket Council's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit.

Yeah, BCCI are hardline when it comes to fixing. The BCCI and the IPL have run from dealing with corruption from Day 1.

The BCCI will get him off. Look out for Pralaya to come in and defend him, claiming Australian and English players did it for years and now it's 'India's turn', so tough.

Right, how much insecure must you be to imagine what others might or might not say !

Sreesanth got what he deserved. He is a cheat and BCCI is never going to allow him to be back in Indian cricket, whether domestic or otherwise. It is an unfortunate incident but better to weed out the weak-minded every opportunity you get.

Rajasthan Royals v Kings XI Punjab on May 9 2013. Sreesanth bowling the 4th over of the innings, his second over

6.1
Chandila to Gilchrist, 1 run, round the stumps, outside the off stump and tapped to the off side for a quickly taken single
6.2
Chandila to Marsh, SIX, goes down the track and smacks it over for a six, uses his feet well against Chandila and gets it off the middle of the bat, smacked
6.3
Chandila to Marsh, FOUR, and again, that's the second lofted shot, straight back over the bowler's head, this time it's bounced and gone away for a four, finally getting them off the middle of the bat now
6.4
Chandila to Marsh, 3 runs, poor effort in the field by Sreesanth, it was a shorter one and cut, Sreesanth at the backward point dives it an hour before he should have, it sneaks through
6.5
Chandila to Gilchrist, no run, wants to cut it away, misses, bit of an appeal from the keeper before he shuts up, probably realises it had missed the edge, probably was apprehensive of another dose of Gilly's anger
6.6
Chandila to Gilchrist, no run, tapped away to the off side but again to the fielder
No wonder the investigators are suspicious. In this game he bowled 4-0-24-1. Three overs that went for 10, then this over which went for 14, helped by guess who on ball 4.
