samit patel a throwback to england's 'county all-rounder' days. ealham and all those turds who were not much more than bits and pieces players. better off picking a bowler or batter with guys like bresnan, broad, already in the team.
Agree, they obviously felt that they needed more than 4 bowlers and with Bopara being unable to bowl(I think he would have [played both Tests if fit) they must have felt that Prior at 6, Bresnan at 7, Swann at 8 and 3 mugs to come after them if Monty played was just too much.

But yeah it's not a good look having someone like him in there.

About time Pietersen stops being a bitch to the left arm tweakers. Someone as good as him should be looking to put them out of the park, not getting out blocking and prodding to their little shits

Wow that was really crap from Thiramanne. Sri Lanka need to find another opener.

England with two guilt-edged chances missed already. They are poo!

I reckon that the Dilsham decision was spot on...there was no evidence to refute the umpires decision...and so he had to go... really poor from the ICC not to have snicko or hot spot

Samit Patel has lost a lot of weight (believe it or not) and worked bloody hard to get his chances. The ECB openly told him that he had to lose weight and sharpen up or they'd ignore him forever. And he's like Cossie, basically a talented fat bastard, but he's trying to stay under his natural weight.

He plays at Notts which is akin to playing at Bellerive - it's usually a bowlers' fun palace of a wicket and he averages 40 with the bat. He's a very good player, he needs about the same opportunities as Morgan had.

Why don't they just give it out and be done with it?
Well with DRS your going to get a lot less poor decisions but it wont be perfect.

IT was supposed to get rid of howlers the DRS and it has really... U cant say Dilshan's dismissal was a howler at all.

All we needed here was snicko or hot spot and it would of been easy to make a decision.

The oinly thing with Dilshan's dimissal is that he went up for a DRS straight away and that to me indicated he didnt think he hit it but cricketers cannot be trusted unfortunately :D

Swann is like, the best offie for decades minus the one whom people think throws

The one that got Randiv was a peach, the perfect off break

England are looking good and knew they would play well....especially considering the media storm they would be confronted with if they lose when the head home.

They are the number 1 team and needed to show why they are.

Would love to see the Lankans win again though!

england way too good in this match, if they had held their catches of Jayawardene in the first test who knows they may have well won the series...

Swan bowled beautifully and Anderson is really stepping up the plate as the leading fastbowler...bowled some excellent lines and placed the ball well.

KP did what KP can do and took the game right away from SL.

Sangakarra has been dissapointing in this series and apart from Jayawardene and Prasanna with some handy knocks SL batting hasnt really been up to scratch.

Full credit to Herath who just keeps on giving 100%

Well played england.

Which one, because he was outbowled by Ajmal quite strongly in UAE.

I do like Swann, he is a throw back, he just uses subtle variations, tosses it up, uses the arm ball.

With him it's an art but those front on offies with their doosras are playing a different game to him really.

And every now and then he does struggle with a predominantly right handed batting line up that can play spin.

Unfortunately there's no way of getting him and Monty in the same side without only playing 2 quicks.
