SRP is a board that naturally stirs up emotional debate.

In any debate it is important to acknowledge that people have differing opinions and viewpoints and just because someone doesn’t agree with you, doesn’t necessarily mean they are wrong.

In here, as it is in face to face interactions, it is important that everyone has a mutual respect for each other. Arguments are fine, disagreeing with someone is fine and articulating that in a respectable manner is fine. Generally speaking, if what you post would be inappropriate for someone to say to a customer in a workplace, you’ve crossed the line.

SRP, as all boards are, is governed by the BigFooty Terms, located here : http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/help/terms

As an extension, or more specifically:

Rule 1. We encourage rigorous debate as long as it stays on topic and subject. If you attack the man then you risk infraction; when responding, attack the argument not the poster.

Rule 2. Avoiding the swear filter by altering a letter or two even though the word is still obvious will be deemed deliberate and will incur an infraction. If you feel the need to swear in a particular post then just type the actual swear words and let the swear filter do its thing.

Rule 3. Posting any information on or ridiculing the personal details (real name, photos, job, place of residence, marital status or family members etc) of another poster will also earn you a nice holiday from BigFooty.

Rule 4. Continually using the “Report” button just because you don’t like the post, or the poster, will take you down a slippery slope. The report button is there to report serious breaches of the rules, not because someone calls you an idiot or disagrees with you

    Rule 5. Starting Threads/Posting

5a. When starting a thread be sure that your opening post contains some form of discussion to start your argument off (ie. A paragraph giving your thoughts rather than one sentence). Simply posting nothing more than "Discuss", "Thoughts", or quoting a slab of text will see the thread removed. Remember, threads are closed or moved based on the overall quality of their content. That content begins with (and often continues to be determined by) the quality of the OP.

5b. Do not start threads about other posters as these invariably end up turning ugly and create more work for us.

5c. We appreciate that each person has topics which they feel strongly about, but posting thread after thread on the same topic, especially where the content tends to overlap with an existing thread, is strongly discouraged. Rather, we would prefer the bumping of old threads so long as the bump has become relevant again or may be of interest to readers.

5d. You are allowed to include a news article in your thread or post, but rather than simply posting a link, try to quote the most relevant paragraph or two from the article so people understand what you’re highlighting. A link to a 6 page document with no reference is annoying.

5e. If your thread is closed, it is not an invitation to start a new thread to revive the same topic. The new thread is likely to encounter the same problems and the same fate as the closed one.

5f. Use the search function - multiple threads on the same topic clog up the board and push other threads off the front page, so have a look before hitting "Submit Thread" that someone hasn't already thought of your bright idea before you. The search forum tool is at the top right hand of the forum.

5g. BigFooty is a discussion forum. Discussions work best when people communicate their thoughts, opinions and views. Posting a link to a video, or a stab of quoted text, and nothing else will probably see your post removed. As with quotes, they should be used to support your argument, not to make one on your behalf.

    Rule 6. Moderators / Infractions

6a. The moderators of this forum are always right and there will be zero tolerance of criticism levelled at moderators.

6b. SRP does not exist is to provide a forum for anyone to air their grievances about Moderators or infractions they have received (on this board or any other). If you feel you have been hard done by the correct procedure is to take up your case with admin via the contact page: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/misc/contact

6d. Posting images on SRP is a good way to strengthen your case, or to generate debate. However, there are limits to everything. As you can imagine, the moderators will automatically apply appropriate infractions against posters who display pornographic, obscene, or offensive images.

6e. Examples of automatic infractions are: images of Downs syndrome or other obviously intellectually handicapped persons (usually as a form of insult to a fellow poster); pictures of other big footy users; pictures of decapitated bodies/war zones, pictures of drug use or associated implements, animals fornicating, defecating, urinating etc.; images of personal vibrators, dildos, sex dolls etc....

6f. We can't list all of the things that are inappropriate, so we say be tasteful. If it's something you would be comfortable showing your grandmother - then it's probably OK.

6g. Leeching - posting images hosted on other sites without their permission - is verboten. Use photobucket.com or box.net or any other free image hosting service. BigFooty is a busy site and you can easily cost people big money by pushing them over their server data allowance.

Rule 7. Race / Sexual Preference

7a. Racist remarks are offensive and will not be tolerated in any way. Remember that some slang terms that were once commonplace are no longer acceptable in our more enlightened society, so choose your words carefully. Words such as "wog" or other such words amount to racial vilification and will not be tolerated.

7b. Questioning someone's sexual preferences or suggesting they perform sexual acts with or without someone else will run the gauntlet of good taste. So again choose your comments wisely as what may not be offensive to you may be for someone else. A person's Gender Identity is also not to be attacked or questioned on this board. Please respect every person as an individual poster.

    Rule 8. Application of Rules

8a. Applying these rules is an inexact science and we as moderators will consider context, the history of a poster and the nature of the thread among other things when determining whether the undefinable line has been crossed. We may also just be in a bad mood.

8b. Long sequences of off topic bickering between posters can be boring for others to read and will be likely deleted with an infraction attached.

8c. It is impossible for us to read every post in every thread so some posts may slip through unnoticed. If you are offended by a post and believe action should be taken, report the post as this will ensure it is brought to our attention and we can act on it as necessary. If you do report a post don't then respond to it as well as it creates even more work for us and will darken our mood.

8d. Above all else we are all here to have fun and enjoy some good natured banter with other passionate members.

The Question Time board is being revamped. Our view for the board is to turn it in to a board that is to SRP what Bay 13 is to the club boards. Over at QT, we encourage members to troll and allow more lenient and vigorous debate/banter amongst posters. Posters are permitted, and encouraged, to cite, quote or draw off other posters comments in other sections of SRP as long as such threads/posts do not personally attack the poster. We all know that Society, Religion and Politics spark intense emotions amongst people and QT is the place to express yourself openly and honestly and let your natural bias shine through.

Please ensure that before you get involved in QT that you read the rules, located here: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/question-time-rules-read-first.1051247/

Why are you still reading this post? Get over to QT and put someone back in the box..

    Confirmed.

I must say I'm getting sick and tired of reading of bitching and complaining about moderating and whether someone that cops moderation based on whether they are left or right leaning, or who made a complaint.

I've posted similar things up before, but here's an edited version of something I said to someone in private recently:
Threads/comments are not locked or deleted because they are conservative views, or because the mods don't agree with the point of view of the OP or direction of the discussion; they are removed/locked because they attack the poster personally for their views, turn in to flame wars through troll posts, or degenerate into vile racist attacks etc. etc.

Threads such as this one, and the 'Hypocracy of the Left' still exist, even though they are right leaning threads. They exist because they are well thought out OPs and put together without attacking anyone and seeks to generate a proper discussion, unlike this thread which was the complete opposite.

I can't speak for other mods, but I moderate without fear or favour, regardless of whether I agree with the views of the poster. Posts / threads / users are dealt with on merit and on content, not whether it's left or right leaning content, or whether the poster is left or right leaning. Case in point: mottrain and DardySingh360 have never been given infractions by me, despite their obvious right-leaning views where mine are clearly, what I call, centre-left. On the other hand, there are a number of left-leaning posters, with whose point of view's I generally agree with, who have copped their right whack when they have stepped out of line; including one earlier in this thread.

I will always post up my thoughts and views on certain topics I feel passionate about, at the end of the day that's why I was drawn to SRP, but those opinions and view points are always limited to public threads and have no impact on decisions I make as a moderator. I know there are those out there who don't believe this to be the case, but if they took their rose-tinted glasses off for 5 minutes, stepped back and took an objective look at things, they would realise that it is the case.

This post serves as yet another warning to all posters in SRP that questioning moderator decisions in a public area is strictly forbidden. It's not forbidden because we are 'above the law', it is forbidden because the majority of the time you don't have all the available information that we do as Mods. A feedback thread exists for the very purpose of ascertaining your views. As always, if you have an issue with moderator decisions, the correct avenue to discuss these issues is via a PM with the mod directly, via PM with all the SRP mods as a group, or by emailing the Admin team at support@bigfooty.com

In due course I will relocate this post to the SRP Rules thread where it belongs.
