Those uni students will know what I'm talking about. I assume there is a few uni students on this board.
My uni exams results came out during the week. I am a distance student and we can view our exam results in two places; the online transcript, and a gradebook for each subject.

Lecturers put the results into gradebook, but they are only supposed to put in assignment results and not exam results. However, for both subjects I done this semester the lecturers have put the exam results into gradebook.

The online transcript however must be more controlled by the uni. They withhold the grades until you pay the SSAF Fee.

So I've been getting emails for the past month almost daily to pay the SSAF fee or grade will be withheld. Yesterday I got on saying, grades are out, pay your SSAF fee so you find out your grades.

My options are
a) Don't reply
b) Reply 'I seen my results in gradebook, umad?'
c) Long winded rant about how this is revenue raising and I don't even use the facilities being a dist ed student. Also how the two 'facilities' I use, being the internal roads (more potholes than sealed in tar) and a chair & table (From a 1920s garage sale), aren't up to scratch anyway.
d) Any other suggestions.

Inb4 stop being stingy and pay the fee.
 
With regards to withholding grades, are you sure the uni won't not make it official you passed the subject unless you pay the SSAF as opposed to simply not telling you the mark?

I'm not sure there is much choice in regards to the SSAF, quite sure you'll have to pay it or defer it via SA-HELP (pretty much SSAF HECS) if you can.

I didn't know anything about it until the uni emailed me after it was due asking me to pay it. Turns out I missed out on the cut off date for chucking it on HECS. Now I have to pay it straight up. Would've been nice to know beforehand.

I go to curtin university and for the first semester they only informed us that we had to pay, during the uni holidays and about a week before it was due.

I went to Curtin this year as well. It's kind of annoying, but I'm going pretty well in terms of money, so it's no serious issue for me. It's still a bit of a prick.

What does it actually go toward? I got an email from the piss-weak sillies telling me how evil the uni is for charging people to park their cars. Apparently, Curtin made something like $80 mil last year. I paid a fair bit to play for the uni footy club (though it's in cahoots with a private high school), people have to pay for their guild membership, and no entitlements really come for free.

Depends who you ask really. The Government says it's for unis to spend on student services and facilities; student bodies say its for student elections and legal representation; unis say it's all for them. Isn't all this shit the reason we pay tuitions in the first place?

Haven't seen the slightest difference at my uni this year. I personally cringe at the idea that any of my money is going towards the kind of Moos that run for student representative positions. Just means more walls for the next Tony Abbotts of our world to punch holes in.

The ANU got it right - free jelly beans at exam time and a tab at a local nightclub. :thumbsu:
 
I just deferred it and figured I'll worry about it later. The $300 odd won't be missed whenever I pay it off compared to now.

As for all the student rep and election bullshit, I couldn't care less. I've got better things to do.

Still, your vernacular on BF is your embedded language, basically (unless you're a douchebag like me). If you use the wrong tense on here and don't cringe, it's kind of a poor indictment on you. Yeah.

And as an English student, you definitely can start a sentence with "and."

Bloody Maths and Science students *shakes head*.

Yes! Always used to shit me in high school when I lost marks for it. I'm glad it's almost encouraged in creative writing subjects at uni.

Believe it or not mate, some things (like enjoyment, satisfaction, and doing something that doesn't drive you into depression and a mood of futility) transcend getting a degree because there's money in it. I don't care if you do a certain course, so why do you care what I do?

I'm not saying I don't care about money. I need money. But the things I want to get into require a uni degree in something Arts-centric, and also pay a modest but very much liveable income. I don't need $200,000 a year. I'd like it, but not at the cost of doing something batshit boring like accounting.

I just think I've touched a nerve when I pulled you up for our sub-standard use of the English language. Because there's nothing cool about speaking like a meth-head from Scumshine/Redfern/Balga/Mt Lockyer.

i start sentences with whatever i want, as long as people understand what im trying to say then it must be correct, because that's the point of communication.

I am of the firm opinion that people (ie. Gen Y....) are getting dumber.

Maybe technology (spell check; calculators; computers; SMS speak; etc) is largely to blame, but FFS why are people so bloody stupid these days?

Case in point, a checkout chick recently stole 5 minutes of my life whilst I explained to her that $100.20 for a $80.20 bill (I gave her the $0.20 after she'd rung it up) needs $20 change. In the end it got all too hard and she gave me $19.80 (go Tiges).

And this is the demise of the English language. You do realise noticeably poor language is an indictment on yourself? I mean, you don't have to speak Ye Olde English, nor do you need to be a walking Macquarie, but there's a big difference between speaking like a Hungry Jacks-dwelling rat and someone of decent intellect.

No. If you wanted to know what an English course entails, you should've said that. "Benefits" infers the byproducts of having a degree. Y'know, like the benefit of studying medicine for ten years is a stable, rewarding, high-paying job. My comprehension isn't the issue, your way with words is.
 
Getting back to the OP, I would suggest your credit point for each subject will be witheld until you pay up. You may have seen your grades, but those juicy 40CP won't be coming your way until you top up your vice chancellor's slush fund.

It's bullshit legislation. If I wanted legal representation and access to more on-campus activities, I'd join a student association FFS. How about giving us what we really want - no fees for the uni cricket and footy clubs.
