This will be a bit of a longer post, but here goes...

First up, the team name will be the UB Barbarians, I believe it encapsulates the drafting policy I'm going to enact, being that I won't just be picking the best Saints footballers I can, but will be splicing in some of my all-time favourites and genuinely picking what I consider to be a playable side. I'll also do proper bio's, like I would with any PD.

Some of the picks might surprise, Stephen Wells-style but ultimately I think the team will be a winner. There will - as the name implies - be an emphasis on grunt, and I have a huge bias toward left footers, so watch out for that, but without further ado...

Pick 3 - Uncle Barrels' Barbarians: Ian STEWART, Hobart FC (180cm 81kg): supremely polished centreman.

St Kilda Career: 127 games (25 goals)
St Kilda Best & Fairest: 1964, 1966
St Kilda Premiership: 1966
St Kilda Team of the Century (centre)
Tasmanian Team of the Century (centre)
VFL/AFL Team of the Century (centre)
All Australian: 1966
Brownlow Medal: 1965 (tied), 1966, 1971 (Richmond)

I know, not a key forward - I'm as shocked as you are - but with Plugger gone, I decided to win the game from the middle first and one only needs to look at the list of accolades above to see how easy this choice was. Only four men in the history of the VFL/AFL have taken Charlie home three times, and Stewart is one of them, and that says a great deal. Probably the most supremely skilled player ever to pull on the red, white and black, Stewart was the epitome of class and skill in the middle of the ground, with a raking left boot - though he was brilliant off either foot - and simply more time and poise than everyone.

Playing in a notoriously tough era, Stewart also had rare courage; he moved like a ballerina and punched like a boxer. A true champion.

Armitage2Riewoldt, have at it.

Ah righto it's an all time list. I thought it was only going to be saints players that were actually taken in the draft since it began. Interesting concept.

I'm loving this thread! would have loved to play, but better to leave it to the experts. :)
