Pick 19 - Uncle Barrels' Barbarians: Brendon GODDARD, Gippsland Power (190cm 94kg): immensely gifted utility

St Kilda Career: 205 games (104 goals)
All Australian: 2009, 2010

An early take perhaps, with a lot of class and some genuine favourite sons still available, but you take talent when its available. Quite simply breathtaking in what he could do on a football field, the fact that he jumped ship to the Tullamarine Cesspit in no way reduces my admiration for him as a player or my gratitude for the moment of sheer joy he gave in the drawn Grand Final, when he rose above Ball and O'Brien to haul in what I thought might just be the mark to deliver our second ever premiership. He left with my blessing, having done everything possible - along with Lenny - to drag us to victory on his shoulders.

An intense, hard-on-his-sleeve person, he wasn't the most likeable, but by God was he deadly with the ball in hand. He will take a spot on the ball in my side as a tall ruck rover, a role he's played with aplomb at the Injectors.

I find it interesting that with all the amazing players available, So much focus is on building your team around a quality key forward. (7 of the first 16 selected have been CHF or FF's, including 4 of the first 6)

In a sense, our great club is also building a list largely from scratch and, when the opportunity arose this year to grab a long term key forward or a star mid, we went the key forward.

Just shows their importance, as you guys are illustrating here.

Pick 20: Barry Breen
300 games (1965-1982)
308 goals
191cm

Honours
1966 Premiership Player
St Kilda Team of the Century
Leading Goal Kicker 1970
Captain 1979

Stepping aside from his famous point, which he kicked at just 18 years of age, Breen is just too good to overlook here. The first, and still one of only four players to play 300 games for St Kilda, Breen kicked 308 goals in his time at but was more than capable at both ends of the ground. He went onto captain St Kilda in 1979 and was listed in St Kilda's team of the century.

Pick #21: Ross G. Smith
(St Kilda) 234 games - 230 goals
173cm - 75kg

An extremely fit rover (for his time) and being able to run all day, he played in our 1966 grand final victory and racked up 18 disposals, the 4th most for the team. In the 1971 grand final loss to Hawthorn he gathered 17 disposals (3rd most for the Saints) and kicked a goal. He won the 1967 Brownlow Medal with 24 votes in 17 games, and of those 17 games, he polled brownlow votes in 12! 1971 was considered his best season by many, he polled 16 brownlow votes and finished 8th (Ian Stewart won that year) while another Saints player John McIntosh polled 18 votes, what might've been had there been less players taking votes from him. He won the Saints Best and Fairest in 1967 and 1971 and captained us from '70-'72. Had stats to rival champion Ian Stewart, averaging more disposals and more goals a game over his career then Ian (smith averaged 23 disposals and about 1 goal a game over his career). Despite not being mentioned much, clearly a champion and underrated player of our club.

Place him at the next ruck rover position alongside Robert Harvey thanks. 3 brownlows between the two of them, midfield is shaping up nicely. Stoked to get Ross Smith at this pick.

I can't believe he lasted this long. Wonderful player. You did well to jag him with pick 21. I had him in my top 5 or 6

Had him very high on my board... Was hoping he might escape notice until my next pick...
