Review St Kilda defeated Geelong Rd 14 2016

Just finished the replay. So the Guthrie holding the ball decision didn't even result in a score. Why the complaining? Such a cheap copout. Do Geelong want to talk about the downfield free against Roberton in the third leading to a Cats goal? Does they ignore Membrey getting taken high 25 out midway through the 4th with Gregson getting the same free 5 seconds later? They talk the Hawkins push in the 4th, we raise the McCartin free against at the start of the 3rd. I could count about 3 I50 marking contests with Bruce getting interfered with without a call... Really could go on and on.

The point is the game was level pegging for the majority of the second half, they had the lead twice, they had 6 I50's in the last 1.30min, it's pretty rich to be pointing to the umpires for the reason why they lost. It wasn't a 100% perfect performance, but we were phenomenal.

The whole idea that Geelong were hard done by from the umpires is a joke. Something to cling onto, while ignoring the poor treatment we got from them, because it's easier than admitting they got out-played by a more energetic team.

You weren't paying attention to any other threads since then?

I've also clearly stated in the past I'm fairly opinionated regarding claims of rigging and perceived missed decisions.

Used to do quite a bit of boundary umpiring and standing in to umpire for my cricket club when we were batting (was a bowler, so no batting for me unless they wanted a quick lift of the run rate in as few balls as possible). Then there's the umpiring I used to do at state qualification tournaments when I was playing badminton at that level.

Yes, I would give LBW decisions against my own team if they were there, and I didn't take any bullshit from opposing teams who would make appeals for 'not offering a shot' or some other complicated rule they didn't understand. Woe to the player who needed to ask twice which side they started on.

Ah you're one of those blokes... Every cricket club has one. Umpires at square leg & rifles out his mates so he can appear to be fair & reasonable.

And no, I haven't seen many posts from you at all since the Goldstein argument that you kept running for a week after the game.

Defending that front on contact that Bruce copped is laughable. Ruffles didn't have his eye on the ball at any stage & made contact with Bruce. It's a free kick that was missed.

It's funny actually because that's the exact same reasoning that you repeated constantly regarding the Goldstein free...Hickey looked at Goldy & therefore wasn't watching the ball.

Have you been smoking rat sack or something? Having a William S. Burroughs trip through Interzone?

Bruce had a run and jump from behind. Any 'frontal' contact from a player who's simply trying to get across in front to contest is incidental. The other Bruce incident in the 2nd quarter there was barely any contact made. Laughable. You're allowed to put an arm up. You're just not allowed to be actively interfering with the other player. That means it has to be blatant, and it has to be deliberate. If you were going to mark the ball and you dropped it, the umpire has to be certain it was the opposition that unfairly caused the drop. Nothing to see there.

If I gave everyone out for my own personal gain, why did they consistently ask me to do it and recommend I go into paid umpiring?

Something eerily similar to the Dogs of 2014 to the Saints of 2016.

Dogs had a nice run home 2014, many games in Victoria I'm pretty sure, and really started to get it together, culminating in a finals berth 2015. From that back end of the season you knew they would be good. I can see the signs with this crop of players.

Don't know if that means we play finals next year, but by god I'm loving this ride!

Sinclair for Shenton?

Nice package at 3:32
Must watch at 25:00

Thanks man, glad I didn't have to pay to see that.
**** me isn't sports journalism in Australia just pathetic. Where's the analysis on the teams gameplans? Statistics? Any idiot could've pointed out st kildas willingness to play on, it's one of the cornerstones of our brand of footy.
We're never going to be able to sell this game overseas if our expert commentators come to the conclusion that a team wins each week because they have more drive or heart than the opposition. Our team had more drive because they believed in our gameplan, which was....?
You can see it in buckleys' and scotts' faces, they're thinking "these blokes have no idea". And that's why these coaches come onto the show, because there ideas and coaching philosophies are never really challenged by the people who should be doing it.
It is nice seeing people say good things about the saints on teĺly though.

Robbo can be a dick for sure, but I think Gerard Healy has one of the best footy brains in the media, from memory it was Robbo waxing on last last night though

too true. Zero insight and it's the same conversation rinse and repeat. I don't usually watch Sunday footy show but I caught one the other week and when one of the boys was actually breaking down a play the whole panel was having a giggle about it. Would love some analytical commentary but I won't hold my breath.

Last year I loved st kildas "engine room" series on YouTube where the coaches and players went through pieces of strategy. It's still there if anyone wants to see, search stkilda saints engine room.

Also there was that one time last year the team let a reporter into the strategy room during the week, for the life of me I can't remember who it was. But it had great insight and showed how much we viewers understand about the game, even if the club had final edit and apparently cut large chunks of the article. (If anyone can name and link this that would be great)

It was robbo who wrote it. Had a 2 page spread.

"Inside the St Kilda inner sanctum"
This is the name of the article you're referring too and it was written by mark robinson. It's a good article but it goes to show just how out of the loop some of our journos really are.
I suppose if a person loved footy as much as to actually work out what happens at each stoppage, switch, and inside 50 they'd be trying to get a coaching gig instead of a journalism degree. It just shits me that this weasel is getting paid good money to talk shit and the smug look on his face tells me he knows it too.
