Adelaide and Kangas play GC and GWS 2 each and we get them once each. What a disgrace the draw is and I will be rope-able, but not surprised, if we finish 1-2 games outside the 8 this year. Of course losing games like yesterday doesn't help, but we are already 2 games behind the clubs that are around the same stage of development as us.

It sucks

Well we lost to GC last year, so perhaps we should be glad that we don't get them twice
Also if we make the finals it will mean we've earned it against good teams and we may actually have a chance to win one. I'd prefer to make it on merit than only because we were gifted an easy draw.

We just lost to Fremantle in Melbourne. We have ourselves to blame. Can't be banging on the fairness of the draw if we lose the games we are meant to win to make finals.

Let's actually see if we beat GWS next week. I have my doubts.

Along with an uneven draw the other variable is playing teams when they are in form or savaged with injury throughout the year.
A few teams have been unlucky to come up against a full-strength Richmond.
Rest assured, the Tigers have done brilliantly in the injury stakes.
Grimes is the only long-term injury sustained this season and we've lost Batchelor, Foley and King to a game here and there due to injury or suspension, but we've been near strength throughout!

However, it fall is how it falls. We have the cattle to beat anyone on our day. I reckon we'll have to wait til around rd 17 or so - once we've had our share of easier (on paper) games to balance the ledger a bit. Saints may well prove to be a top 8 team but would want to see them acquit themselves against Crows, Pies, Dons, Cats first before drawing too many conclusions

After this week, we'll have had 4 six day breaks in 5 games. We played you guys on the back end of 3 consecutive six day breaks. The draw does suck.
People do realise that the more 6 day breaks you have then the more 8 and 9 day breaks you're going to get? Everyone plays 22 games over 23 weeks. :p

If only it were that simple. Factor in the bye we have. We play Adelaide Fri night, then have the bye, then have the Roos in the twilight slot on Sunday the following round, followed by another 6 day break against the Bombers.

I am no Carlton lover, but they got the rough end of the stick this week.
Six-day break, travel to Perth to play West Coast who have just a week's rest. What was the AFL thinking playing this on a Thursday?
The fixture (it's a fixture, not a draw) suck for every team unless you barrack for North Melbourne or Adelaide.

Saints played GC dead last out of all the teams and only once in their first year.

If our draw against them looks soft this year it's to even it up.

How stupid would it look in a few years if some teams have played GC 10 times and others only 5?

Things will balance out eventually.

Get with the program dude, you might want to live in lala land thinking it will eventually balance out, but its impossible to suggest there is any balance when you consider this:
The teams that dont play them twice now, will eventually play them twice when their youngsters have 50-100 games up and are no longer newbies..and invariably not the easy beats they are now. Add to that, the teams who are playing them twice then, most definetely will be playing other sides once that they played twice now, and those sides will most likely be on the slide when you take into account how the AFL fixes the "fix" tures..and how teams are set up to their time in spoonsville

So its a complete **** up and the AFL come out and suggest they have all the formulas to work out a fair draw etc, but they have JS...The comp is becoming a shambles and embarrassing and until they have all sides playing each other twice the comp is comprimised and its another form of WWW wrestling with the umps conducting the orchestra..;)

What you're saying is the way AFL works.

Teams get good or hit hot form and you don't want to play them when they're on fire.

Same the other way teams go bad and you want to play them then.

It's all in the luck of the draw.

GC fired up against the Saints last year and we got no percentage boost the rest got. We didn't cry, we just moved on.

st kildas made the finals how many times in the last how many years? as a team that's played consistently they should not be playing a cellar dweller twice. end of story.

yes, we got a easy draw in that we play the suns, Giants, port, Dockers twice who all finish outside the 8 last year but the last 5 games we have proven that we deserve to be in top 8 calculations having beaten Sydney by 5pts (SCG), Geelong by 50pts (h), Carlton 69pts (ES), Dockers (29pts) with a 26 point loss to Collingwood at home in between having lead by 6 points at 3qtr time.

We still have some tough games in the second half of the year although two of them are at home
Round 17 west coast (h), Round 18 Geelong (SS) and round 19 Essendon (H).

We might make the top four but until we can defeat Collingwood or west coast home or away, we cannot be consider a chance for premiership. We have a chance against hawthorn if we play them at AAMI because there have one of the worst records at AAMI against us having only one win since 1994 in Adelaide.

Having a easy draw does not guarantee you a finals berth. We had the easiest draw according to the experts in 2010 and 2011 but we were only able to win 16 out of a possible 44 games.

Luck to you. I think the Crows are worthy of their current position on the ladder and are certainly playing well. I am guessing the good draw was largely as a result of their less than spectacular finish in 2011.
To me, the draw is what it is .... the only fair system is playing everyone twice, home and away. But the league deems that too long a season so the draw will always be inequitable.
I'm sure playing Richmond twice looked far more inviting in February or March as it does now.
My bigger beef is the Tigers being forced to play games at Etihad (where we are generally poor), while interstaters get 12 games on home turf. That said the Crows of this world and particularly the Lions, Dockers and Eagles do travel far greater distances throughout the year than some!

If you have a half decent group, it goes a hell of a long way in making it extremely possible to guarantee a spot in finals..A young team about to hit their straps, who pretty much have the game plan all set, only require the added boost in confidence to make them able to mix it with the top shelf.

I am not to fussed about our draw, since we are doing the slow climb and for me, doing it in a 2 year time frame, gives the brains trust time to make all the required changes that are nessecary to make impacts in September. But i can guarantee ya this, had the tigers played GC and GWS in the first few rounds along with what we had in the demons, tipping that the results, or a few of them, against the better sides that we tripped up with, would have gone our way and we would be sitting at 9-2 or something as we speak.
Momentum is a beautiful thang...once you get it, you can beat anyone..;)

Lose an easy one = go back to blaming the fixture as to why we wont make finals.....

It took me ages to even notice the inconsistancy. Melbourne/Collingwood get this week off. West Coast just had the bye. Carlton played on friday and have to travel to Perth. At the very least the game needed to be on saturday or Sunday for an 8/9 day breaks which evens it up big time.

Top eight teams from the previous season should not be playing bottom 4 teams twice in the following season. Nuff said.

Also all this whining some fans do about 'short breaks'. FFS, you just played a sport for 3-4 hours, and then get a week off... Wish my job was like that.

3 days of soreness before back to full training and a game in 2 days after that.

Modern footy isn't easy but for sure the guys doing it do get paid enough for those 3-4 hours a week.
