No that I care, but the Footy Classified ladder last night was interesting.
If you take out the expansion teams and wins scored against them, Richmond is fifth!!
So it has undoubtedly aided some teams .... that said, I think bringing up the draw at this point of the season is just 'clutching at straws' ... excuses for why we aren't as good as we want to be!

And as I said earlier, playing the Crows twice or playing us twice at the start of the year would have been seen as advantageous .... would you really want to play both those teams twice, if you were a middle of the rung team or aspiring contender?

If only it were that simple. Factor in the bye we have. We play Adelaide Fri night, then have the bye, then have the Roos in the twilight slot on Sunday the following round, followed by another 6 day break against the Bombers.
It is that simple. Every team plays 22 games over 23 weeks. So when you're getting disadvantaged by 6 day breaks eventually you will cop longer breaks than your opponents. Pretty simple really.

No. You're assuming that your opponents schedule runs exactly the same as yours, which doesn't happen. We might get a 7 day break for example yet come up against a side that has had an 8 day break. Plenty of variables my friend. By your model, every team in the comp will have exactly the same amount of rest days. This does not happen.

and we can add the variables that takes us into the calculus stratosphere, when a team might get a 5 day break, for instance and come up against the GWS, then to "balance" that out, they get a 7 day break when they play a contender who has just had a 5 day break after toughing it out in a monster battle against another contender...

At the end of the day, a fixture that is conjured up the way the AFL one is is always going to have bias hidden under the covers, so they get what they want when they want it, graphs going north to show the required KPIs when the TV rights come a calling....;)

Get with the program dude, you might want to live in lala land thinking it will eventually balance out, but its impossible to suggest there is any balance when you consider this:
The teams that dont play them twice now, will eventually play them twice when their youngsters have 50-100 games up and are no longer newbies..and invariably not the easy beats they are now. Add to that, the teams who are playing them twice then, most definetely will be playing other sides once that they played twice now, and those sides will most likely be on the slide when you take into account how the AFL fixes the "fix" tures..and how teams are set up to their time in spoonsville

So its a complete **** up and the AFL come out and suggest they have all the formulas to work out a fair draw etc, but they have JS...The comp is becoming a shambles and embarrassing and until they have all sides playing each other twice the comp is comprimised and its another form of WWW wrestling with the umps conducting the orchestra..;)
I'assuming 'Vlad' is Vince McMahon ... but who is filling the roles of John Cena? Stone Cold Steve Austin? And I take it Caroline Wilson is Vicki Guerrero???

The problem as I see it is that each team has it's specific requests for permanent fixtures. Ie - your dreamtime game against the Dons, our Monday night game against the Blues, ANZAC day etc. As these requests are the first things put into the fixture and there are more and more of them every other game just has to fit in somehow. It can't work.

Hope you don't mind the repeat posts on your board, I've enjoyed the discussion.

The basic problem is that the AFL has to cover for the clubs that continue and will continue to pull 3 and a dog to their games. This exacerbates the call for "specific requests" from clubs that want to play other clubs that pull crowds.
I know its a sore point and the AFL will always evade it, but and this isnt about the now or 10 years from now, its about 30 years or so or more, but the blueprint is all about the game evolving over generations and i am convinced it has in big bold writing, Melbourne has to have less clubs. If I were a bulldog or Roos fan i wouldnt b e to worried, since it wont happen in their life time, but they are toast long term. There fun in the sun, i.e. continued appearances in finals, with the roos having a cavalcade of stars back in the Carey, Archer etc days, had 0 effect on generating a sustainable supporter base. Whatever they say, yeah its all good to have new gyms, good set ups etc, but at the end of the day, if you cant pull a crowd, you are not in the big picture game. Especially when you factor in the TV rights and the embarrassing sight of empty stands for a game in the elite comp of the country.

Long term tipping we can pencil in the NT dogs and the Tassie Roos.;)

Good Friday is still wide open.

They might not play in Melbourne but I think the interstate teams are very interested.

I mean all the shops are shut and everybody is at home anyway. Not having the footy on is just torture, this is the 21st century we're not all worshipping gods that nobody is really sure exist anymore.

Yes, obviously it comes down to your opponents as well. But when you're complaining about 6 day breaks, we also had a 6 day break when we played you. Last week you had an 8 day break while GC had a 6 day break.

Also, this week obviously Adelaide have a longer break than you (due to the bye) but that will cancel out when you play a team off the bye? (not bothered looking up who you play so could be wrong if you play another team off a bye.)

We had 3 consecutive 6 day breaks when we played you.

The bye is an interesting one. Historically teams have struggled coming off it. We should get an idea tonight.

Can't be bothered looking up the results from last year, but previously it was found that those who had a bye early in the year lost after the bye, but those who had a bye towards the end of the year won the next week. The exception to that rule was if both teams had the bye at the same time when they played each other.

I think the overall strike rate was 20-25%. Stand to be corrected though.

I didn't realise that the draw never evens out.

Adelaide get to play GC twice this year - we get them once. Last year,Adelaide got them twice as well, and we got them once. Surely, to even things out, we should get a good run next year (along with Carlton , Essendon, WC, Freo, Port and Collingwood). It does seem stupid that after 2 years, Adelaide will have played 6 games versus the expansions, while some clubs will have played 3.
Brisbane will probably get GC twice every year, for a derby/rivalry - ditto sydney/GWS. So until they get good (3-4 years at least) Brisbane and Sydney will get a guaranteed leg-up every year from their derby.

We'll see if the draw evens out.
