These quotes from Chris Fagan infuriate me.

Who the f*** - as a coach - comments on salaries of players at other clubs?

Bloke has just won two premierships heavily assisted by AFL drafting and player movement rules that can only be used by a select few clubs.

It's ignorant and almost sociopathic. Have lost all respect for him.

The Fagan quotes:

It's another way of saying that we should stay in our place at the bottom and let the other teams win flags.
The president said we had to embrace being unpopular and this is part of it. The days of successful clubs getting players to accept unders to stay is over.

He is just pissed we changed the market so it will be harder for Brisbane to pay all their draft gifts.

If he just named TDK, I could more understand his point. But naming Nas and insinuating he doesnt deserve his contract is laughable. He is worth every cent of that to the club. The amount of money he has already generated through memberships and merch, through other players signing on due to his presence, by giving the club and sponsors national TV coverage and plenty more. The contract is already paying for itself and he hasn't played a game under it.

If we hadn't given NAS $2mill he would probably be a Port player right now and we'd be hearing everyone talking about how we can't retain players.

It will be really interesting to see the club's response to this.

I feel like there will be one as Fagan has clearly overstepped the mark here.

Critics say players aren't worth their salaries, not opposition coaches.

And we wouldn't have traded in the players we did, Windy a big chance of leaving, who knows if we keep Marshall. It changes the clubs entire trajectory. It could be the best $4 million the club ever spends.

I think he's worried about the offers some of his players are going to be getting. Given that they've won a couple of flags they could be tempted by cash.

If he had have just said St Kilda has contributed to AFL players' salary rising, I could deal with it.

That is pretty much true. Someone had to do it and we were the first.

But saying that 'better players' deserve the salaries of NWM and TDK, get f***ed campaigner.

I hope the players and their teammates take that personally.

Simple solution to that, they should pay their best players what NAS and TDK are getting.

Absolute clown behaviour from him inferring that Nas isn't that good.

Fagan is salty because bigger payments is a risk to his own nepo QLD team, not a risk to the sport itself. Someone will and should pry Bailey out of Brisbane with a big pay day, which is unbiasedly good for the competition

Has Fagan also forgotten how much shit Brisbane were in not that long ago with the go home 5 and empty stadiums?

And a huge part of digging themselves out of that hole? Recruiting players like Neale and Dayne Beams from other clubs, probably on a lot more money than they were on at their original clubs.

Delina with the response.

"I can understand fears about having to pay fair value for players. I appreciate it's a novel concept for some people. Doing anything for the first time can be intimidating," Dilena said.

I think he is saying, ‘we’ as in the AFL as an entire afl ecosystem, ‘..can’t afford to pay bla bla so much.’ , not St Kilda, so even if NAS is worth every penny for us, it doesn’t equal the AFL. That’s the power of his rhetorical hint, and why it stings. Under the surface, they know St Kilda is a ‘quietly subsidized’ club. In return for the cash, we get crappy fixtures (always look at the first 6-8 games folks) , ‘set-an-example’ status at the tribunal (Jimmy Webster) or ‘we-might-might-need-you-to-accept-that-your-opponent-needs-to-win’ (Barry Hall), and twenty million bucks for costs.

So regardless of the incredible gifts these expansion teams get, he can get a punch in. And well he might, as all the clubs have to do some sort of lobbying. We are a soft target. But he looks bad for it.

But he looks bad for it.
Bad?

He’s come across as an absolute sook.
Couldn’t wait to grasp this opportunity over what he saw as a slight to his club by Bassat two years ago. Especially talking about the premier getting the #1 draft pick.

We all know Bassat was correct in what he said, and although we took plenty of flak at the time, the media (and the AFL) and probably a few clubs too nervous to put their heads up, are finally coming round to acknowledging the inequities.

And they’re commenting on it - generally in our favour (which makes a nice change).

This has not been Fagan’s finest hour, especially making personal comments about the players of another club, but these kinds of comments shows the true nature of the man when he realises the armchair ride they’ve got is slowly coming to an end.

Easy to be jovial and Mr likeable when things are going your way. We saw the same thing with McRae when the Pies stopped winning.

He’s done himself no favours.
