No, you completely missed the point. It's not just about having Friday night games, it's about how the AFL fixes the matches so the same clubs get the most benefit out of the fixture.

For example, over the last ten years Melbourne has only had about 1 home game against Essendon. Or how clubs like North or the saints always play home games against the poorer crowd drawing non-Vic clubs whereas clubs like Richmond don't.

The 'become successful and you will get a better fixture' statement has been proven to be wrong so many times in the past
Poor example as you've been so sh*t in the last 10 years that what you say doesn't prove a thing.

Lets see....in 2018, St Kilda hosts...

Collingwood, Bulldogs & Hawthorn on Saturday nights
Carlton & Richmond on Friday nights.

Yeah, the AFL is really crucifying you.

It's interesting, imagine the ball bounces the right way for them in 2009 or 2010 where would they be at now?

Actually it's St Kilda admin so they would have managed to stuff up even post flag business.

Probably still in Seaford, because that wouldn't have been a valid deflection any more.

and considering that they've received more money for movign back than a flag would have got them, their balance sheet would probably be worse.

Richmond are living proof you can turn a serial basket case around.
There's still hope for us.

They let you in in 1896 and you've won one premiership since.
There's a real big chance they are already the biggest basket case ever.

Apologies I forgot about University horror story.

Go for it. I would genuinely be happy if you could.

We started turning it around with the fighting tiger fund, and in the process of which brought in a lot more members.

So stage 1 for you...Raise over $15M from your fans and add at least 20,000 members. (we didn't do quite that many, but you're starting from further back than we were).

It's important to do it yourself, because that built pride in the club and it's members rather than being a charity case, and pride fed the belief that we could win again.

Absolutely agree with you. This is the best commercial fixture in many years. No complaint whatsoever. Thank God Gil is a saints supporter - he's looked after us nicely.

.

Given the financial benefit we gleaned from 2016 they’d likely be running smoothly.

We knocked off our debt, got record membership and are now nowhere near the financial basket case we were

I'd like to see what sort of $s the afl give to each club
I don’t have the latest stats, but these are from 2016:

How much each club was paid by the AFL in 2016:

1. GWS Giants $21,548,374

2. St Kilda $18,566,589

3. Western Bulldogs $17,610,181

4. Brisbane Lions $17,532,922

5. Gold Coast Suns $17,194,594

6. North Melbourne $15,022,303

7. Melbourne $14,799,452

8. Port Adelaide $13,206,665

9. Sydney Swans $12,488,957

10. Richmond $12,358,925

11. Essendon $11,914,715

12. West Coast Eagles $11,703,240

13. Hawthorn $11,614,683

14. Carlton $11,607,942

15. Collingwood $11,304,689

16. Geelong Cats $10,787,483

The numbers are out there easy enough to find.

Unfortunately they don't break down WHY they give each club those amounts very well, so some of the 'AFL charity' people claim is given out is actually things like the AFL passing on a share of AFL memberships that the clubs actually earned (this also applied to some docklands revenues but who knows with the new deal). Prize money is also included...

edited to add...

Some clubs report better than others and this is from North's 2016 report. First figure is 2016, the second 2015.

AFL – Distributions 9,388,484 9,090,840
AFL – Prize Money 65,000 300,000
AFL – Future Funding 3,750,004 3,510,000
AFL – Stadium Bonus Money 200,000 200,000
AFL – Signage 400,000 400,000

but as I said, reporting is 'interesting'....so when Kangaroos4eva posted that in 2016 North got..

6. North Melbourne $15,022,303

and that doesn't add up to these figures.....you gotta guess a bit as to what the rest was for. (for one I suspect they put money received due to AFL memberships aligned to North under membership revenue, but there are probably other things as well).

nb. I'm not picking on North here, I'm using them because their reporting on this is better than most. (and yes, even the better ones don't match up so well).

Page 73 breaks it down similarly for all clubs.

Plus, we do know why they give out higher amounts to certain clubs, it’s to prop them up, plain and simple.
