This is the first I've ever heard of the top qualifier getting the pick of their strip. West Coast had to wear their away gear in 2006, and Geelong in 2007 and 2008 (shorts and socks).

Or is the rule, Collingwood wears what they want and the others have to work around it?

It's a minor thing in GF week, but Collingwood wearing their away (traditional) jumper would have solved the whole thing and we'd have both clubs in traditional colours on Saturday.

Some saints fans need a history lesson, their traditional jumper which they keep bleating on about has only been around since the early 60's. Before that their jumper was in fact with the white back, quite similar to what they will be wearing on Saturday.
The fact is both clubs have changed their jumpers in the modern era and there is a clash from the back now. One team has to wear the alternate strip and seeing that Collingwood finished on top they have earned the home strip. Simple really.
P.S
If the Pies had finished below StK I wouldn't have had a problem with Coll wearing its away strip with the predominately white back.
Really? Cos i'm looking at the jumper database, and St Kilda have worn a black backed jumper since 1933, before which it was a red white and black back, before which Red White and Yellow stripes, before which Red white and black stripes.

Like I said, people need to either

A) Tell the Saints to finish on top of the ladder

or

B) Stop sooking

"Collingwood, as the higher finishing side at the end of the home and away season, has the right to play in its traditional black and white striped jumper. "

It's Collingwood.

Andrew didnt want to listen to Eddie, this was an easier resolve to the issue.
This.

Or maybe because "Collingwood, as the higher finishing side at the end of the home and away season, has the right to play in its traditional black and white striped jumper."

since 1933 we have had a black back. Since 2000 you have.

I'm merely pointing out that the rule you're holding onto hasn't been in effect until, well, today. Never before has this explanation been given. It was a coin toss, then the AFL decided, now Collingwood decides.

Fine by me, just strange that this 'rule' came into being early this morning when the league realised they had a problem.

Really?

So the jumper 1997-2001 is what? Red and black back???? You know where you got rid of your 'traditional' jumper and went with your pre-season one?
we wore that jumper for 5 years and it still had a black back with a red yolk at the bottom.

72 years > 5 years of the cross jumper

and 72 years > the 10 years that you've had you're apparently "traditional" jumper.

Always black and white stripes v St Kilda with their various german jumpers, striped jumpers and what ever else took their fancy over the years. Tradition matters so much to you that you were wearing a completely different jumper less than 10 years ago.

You have no real tradition that you have not been prepared to turn your back on when it suits you. You could wear the pura milk yellow abomination if you like.

That jumper did not clash with Collingwoods black back jumper, you have worn it before in Grand Finals so why dont they bring it out again? Plus when Collingwood went to the black back, St Kilda was wearing the red jumper, so the clash was only created when St Kilda changed their jumper yet again

All this nonsense about tradition, Collingwood has always worn black and white stripes, St Kilda can not claim they have always worn their tri coloured jumper not even always in Grand Finals

St Kilda dont have a leg to stand on

Eddie is pulling the stops out.

After friday's game its obvious the pies have lots of admirers.

Eddie ant have this and will spend this week spouting his usual to revert us to normal hatred.

By thursday you'll all be wishing for a saints win to shut the bUUger up

Eddie I like. The pies I like. Seperately

Put them together and its the most unsufferable thing on this planet.

Youd be happy with the guernsey colour thing but you know that not only is he stubborn on the issue. you know he would use it to cause mischief if possible

Why isnt he championing the cause for both clubs to wear traditional ?

Was never a clash with St.Kilda until Collingwood decided to reverse their primary jumper from black stripes on a white jumper in 2001. Of course it would be wrong to expect St.Kilda and every other team in the AFL to not take into serious consideration the incredible nine years of Collingwood tradition in their current jumper.

Except that neither team should require a clash jumper.
That a blind man can tell from the front which jumper is which.
Change the socks to Tri-Colour as well as you're done.

Only reason they're whinging is for when the ball is on the deck the players wouldnt know who is who... But once again the socks would change that fact.
