Autopsy St.Kilda v North Melbourne - Practice Game

Would you have copped a top 10 pick for Lenny Hayes? Some things are off limits mate.
With all due respect mate, Cunnington might mean a lot to you blokes but I believe there to be a significant difference in the value of one Sir Leonard Hayes.

And again, your talking to the club that lost arguably the greatest forward the game has ever seen in Plugger and then traded away one of the players of the last 20 years to further facilitate a rebuild (Hall).

I understand your point of heart and soul players not being shipped off etc. but in hindsight Cunnington looks like he is cooked with that back injury and you might have made a mistake holding onto him.

You would know your club better than me. Just my two cents, I’ll also add Tarrant + Goldstein to this list.

Not sure whether any of the 3 bring enough to a club in terms of durability + Leadership in the way Riewoldt brought to ours. I’ll also add that you could even argue he went on too long to the detriment of our list build.

Very fine margins of which a club needs to commit to in its entirety if they want a full rebuild to pan out.

Let's be frank, StKilda HAS undertaken a long & arduous rebuild since 2012, so it would be a failure on their behalf if they have not arrived at this point now.

North are currently about 2-3 years behind StKilda & I actually think that, King aside, North's youth is better.

I don't think this current StKilda side is as strong as the 2010 sides, but Richmond/Bulldogs have shown that you do not need a great list to win flags in this era.

what classifies as youth?

Went through the replay and did my best to mark down the stats as accurate as I could. They aren't perfect but they should be pretty close (haven't found any other sources of stats, but if there are we'll be able to compare my efforts...)

By far the hardest to figure out were the clearances so take those numbers with a grain of salt, hard to tell who gets it most of the time but I did my best, and I probably forgot to pay attention to a bucnh of them too. On the eye test, North clearly beat us in the clearances though. Gresh and Jones back will help that big time.

For those interested.

Thats epic!!!!

The game was on very early this morning our time, and then I was off playing golf first thing. Thanks to the guys who put the replays up. I just finished watching. Great viewing. Lots of things to like. Higgins a very sharp player. Sinclair excellent. Love him coming through from half back. Crouch looks the business. Paddy sublime, King gaining confidence, Wood more than useful, Billings class, Hill very involved. Could keep going....as I said, lots to like.

Only a practice game, but great to pick up form and confidence. Terrific to be watching footy again. Also to see Arden St after all these years. Went there when I was a kid. Looks quite different now. Is that rickety old stand still there? Couldn’t see it as that was where the camera was.

Roll on the season.

gonski, they tore it down when they built their new facilities, admin worked out of portables, was a horrible dump of a place when they took to it with an excavator, mush like Linton St was.

Can you be eligible for a rising star if you’re nominated the season prior?
Yes. As long as you haven't played more than from memory 11 games and aren't 21yo or whatever at the start of that year.

You could be nominated once at 19 years old and again at 20 years old and then win it the following year, if you had only played say 8 games in the first two years.

P.S - Before dislocating his finger in the first quarter, Bytel had 10 disposals, 2 marks and 2 goals 🔥
What a strong at the contest effort.

Higgins really was magnificent. Probably a bit underrated with his direct gives for goals.

If Bytel was at an Adelaide/North/Hawthorn/Essendon this year he'd be a serious chance of coming 2nd in the Rising Star.
Geez , that's going early , i think the kid can play but we played against a bunch of witches hats from what i saw

Where did I say that I was basing it solely on that one game though?

And if going as well as he was prior to injuring his finger was that easy, why wasn't everyone going at 10 disposals, 2 goals in a quarter pace?

A bit sensitive mate , i was just saying he played against muppets , surly you can understand that

poor norf fans, they're where we were in 2014, believing in the complete rebuild via the draft, where every high end selection will turn into gold

i think they're about to find out how hard a complete rebuild is
The only thing that has taken us out of the midfield doldrums are as follows
Hannebery
Jones
Howard
Butler
Hill
Ryder
Crouch
Higgins.

Maybe one of Frawley, Wood McKernan will join the list.

Maybe I am slow but was flabbergasted to find out Shaun McKernan was Cory's brother.
Must be 20 years between them.

30 vs 47

With all due respect mate, Cunnington might mean a lot to you blokes ............

Yeah, and that's my point. It's a metaphor, not a competition.

Epic effort mate

My big takeaway (not that anyone cares), is approx 65 disposals between Clark, Billings and Hill

If those three end up with 60-80 disposals a week, that will go a long, long way towards us winning a LOT of games. Battle, Members and King must love the quality of ball use there!
