So a few months ago you had players stating they wouldn't want someone with the character of Akermanis in their team. Now you've gone and drafted an upstanding citizen like Gardiner.

Seriously, you're a disgrace for making those comments originally and it's even worse that you do something this hypocritical.

This is a general statement at the club, this is not flame baiting, as I really can't see how anyone can defend this.

Except it was players that were making the comments not the coach. Riewoldt was one I can remember saying the stuff about Aker off his own bat.

This is a joke from a fan of a no balls club like Geelong. You might have noted that some things have changed at the Saints.

Pity the same can't be said about Geelong!

Well, Stkilda may have seen something you didn't see.
They have probably studied Gardiner's matches from his WAFL Club, gone to his games, experienced it first hand.
That's probably why they chose Gardiner, along with the fact that Sydney now has Evritt (i know that Stkilda wanted him) so Gardiner was the next best choice.
And also not every Stkilda fan said they didn't want Gardiner... so get off Stkilda fans backs. They had no say in this whatsoever.
Hope that clears some things up.

I heard Ross Lyon on SEN. When they asked him about Gardiner's off-field issues, Lyon basically said he didn't know of anything except being late for training once and having a car accident. Is he for real? Are they really that much out of touch in Sydney? Or is he just trying to pretend there is no issue because he knows no-one can actually talk about it on-air or in the press?
If he really doesn't know he is a dope. If he is trying to fool us all then he cracks me up.
PS I finally thought of a use for the # key on my computer!

Cant see the co-relation.

Akermanis was seen as a troublemaker who slagged the club and the coach.
St.Kilda had experience with this from Everitt.

Gardiner OTOH never slagged off the WCE or his coach.

As well as that just because Riewoldt didn't want Akermanis at the club, he didn't say anything about Gardiner. Also Gardiner addressed the Saints leadership group prior to talks with the club (which involved Luke Ball and Max Hudghton).

One other little thing. The Saints have changed coaches and Lyon wanted a ruckman. They dont grow on trees, and the choice was Gardiner or Everitt.

So get your head out of your rrrrrsssss. Ironic coming from a handbagger supporter whose club players and staff have a great culture of "sharing" their posessions.

Great trading btw. Waiting for another compromised handout to go with Ablett, Ablett, and Scarlett are you?

Did it occur to you that he simply may not have wanted to discuss the issues with footy journos on a public radio station?

If you really don't know then you are a dope ...

By saying what he did, Ross Lyon was clearly implying that he knew of the seriousness of all of Gardiner's problems.
Of course he can't say what the real issues are - he'd be sued faster than you can press the # key on your computer.

Lyon is far from an idiot. FFS, football supporters like us know the issues Gardiner has had to deal with ... of course Ross Lyon knows.

I'm not even talking about the quality of the player(s) in question or how talented the St Kilda team is. St Kilda as a team and as individuals made comments they didn't want a character like Aker in their team. All I am saying is that when it comes to character, Gardiner makes Aker look like Mother f'ing Teresa.

This is purely a lesson in never to make bold statements, as you'll live to regret them, especially in this game!

These comments were reflective of Grant Thomas's beliefs and not of Ross Lyon's. We have learned that a little pragmatism is not a bad thing! Simple fact!

For years now, supporters of other clubs have been telling us that the Saints were a coach and a ruckman short of a flag. The choice was Everitt or Gardiner. Now both issues are addressed and they are still whinging. I feel there is another agenda here!

Try pulling your head out of your arse for 5 seconds and read Joffaboy's post.

BTW, good post JB. :thumbsu:

The Saints did not want Everitt!! Or at least the players did not want him, a wise choice I would say. He has now left TWO clubs, and he would not be welcome back at either..Unfortunately Spida is NOT a TEAM man, he plays for himself. That is one of his biggest problems...Roos has a big job ahead of him..Good luck!!

I can't see how JB 'stuck it to me' with his post. The key word to my whole argument is "character". I'm saying I would prefer someone who is opinionated, over someone who has ties to organised crime and is extremely close to the banned substances allegations.

Seriously if you asked all 600+ players in the AFL who they would prefer to have in their team, purely from a character and moral standpoint (forgetting skill, importance to team make-up, etc), I think the majority would pick Aker over Gardiner. That is my argument.

Who said JB 'stuck it' to you?

I was simply pointing out that JB's post explains that difference between the two players.

BTW, I think you should be careful - you are treading very close to a line that shouldn't be crossed.

No, that is your guess. You have no idea if that's the case.

Well what are your thoughts about the Eagles keeping Ben Cousins while making Gardiner a scapegoat? His story is public. I think if we seriously considered the morals of all afl players, under your strict moralistic code very many more would not have a gig!

They didn't have much luck with his ex-teammate Barry Hall. ;)

And the fact their side isn't as terrible as Hawthorn's will make the world of difference.

I'm not sold on Gardiner and it smacks of Pagan trading away a late pick for Saddington because of the player he used to be.

Furious G.. For the above reasons, I cannot understand why Richmond would pick up Polak.. I sure as hell wouldn't want him at our club. With the culture at their club I would have thought they would have steered clear of him..especially when they are just starting to get players under their control. We all know why he was put on notice!!!!Another strike and OUT!!

Of course. That's why I said "Is he just trying to pretend there is no issue because he knows nobody can talk about it on-air or in the press"

I just thought it was silly of him to pretend he did not know of anything else when surely he does know. A simple "I'd rather not discuss those personal issues in public" would have been better.

Oh When the Saints said:

If I didn't know, why would I have written that?

Lol.

Did you hear the interview? Lyon seriously pretended he knew of no other issues, besides the car crash. Not good for his credibility, I thought. Anyway, I am sure he does know, and he should have been prepared for questions along that line, and he could have handled it better.
Just my opinion.

Why not let's just wait and see how Gardy goes around next year? I reckon if he stays honest and makes a significant impact, nobody will give a stuff about his past indiscretions!
