I'm not even talking about the quality of the player(s) in question or how talented the St Kilda team is. St Kilda as a team and as individuals made comments they didn't want a character like Aker in their team. All I am saying is that when it comes to character, Gardiner makes Aker look like Mother f'ing Teresa.

This is purely a lesson in never to make bold statements, as you'll live to regret them, especially in this game!
This from a guy whole supports a team that makes a legend out of low life trailer trash.

Instead of being remembered as the Scud of the AFL, perhaps Gardiner might finally realise that this is it for him. His last opportunity to sort himself out. I mean, how many chances does a person need, for it to sink in. To sit and watch a guy with so much talent, flush it all away, has been infuriating. I've got no doubt if he can put in a decent preseason (e.g. avoids Lygon St for starters), the guy is going to be a valuable pickup for the Saints. When concentrating on his footy, he has shown himself to be a quality ruckman.

For the record, I don't think players should be held to any moral codes. My argument is simply that St Kilda are the ones that set the moral bar when they said they wouldn't want Aker at their club because of his character. I am just of the opinion that they have now lowered that bar considerably by signing Gardiner. I am not saying clubs should pass on players because of their off field actions; I am not saying we should hold them up as role models; I am not saying players don't deserve a second or even third chance.

The point I am trying to make is: If a club passes on or won't even consider a player because of their character, and then go and recruit another player of an even lesser character, they are being hypocritical. Or the first players character was never the real reason they weren't interested, in which case, they should have just said that.

And to the Hawks supporter having a go at me? I have never had a go at the Hawks. Unless you are refering to the Spida thread, in which I am merely interested to see how big a difference his absence would make.

And Kosi cant play because his back is gone, wasn't that your diagnosis?

kosi might never get on the park but its not because of his back.

Your credibility is zippo Brownbagger.

It is Carlton morons like you i think of when i see Saints signing up all their young players as yours walk out :thumbsu:

lolol - after years of your predicitions that that would happen to the Saints list -BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

What a giant douche you have turned out to be, and you can thank you bankrupt, rabble of a club.

And dont we all just love it :thumbsu: :)

Riewoldt is not all of St.Kilda. he doesn't run the show. It was his personal opinion.

Riewoldt also wanted Grant Thomas to stay coach but apparent a bloke called Ross Lyon is now coach.

So it was Riewoldt not St.kilda who said they didn't want Aker. It was St.Kilda who said they didn't want Everitt, however Nick Dal Santo said he did.

Do you have any conception of what a personal view is?

And a Geelong supporter shouldn't talk about morals at a club with what we all know went on down there this year.

Not that was a disgrace.

I said Riewoldt was one of many and if I remember correctly in his interview, he said the leadership group had discussed it, so it was more than just a "personal view".

I follow Geelong, I know we're far from angelic when it comes to off the field events. I wish people would at least consider what I am saying is valid instead of taking the easy/lazy option of attacking the club I support.

Although if you would bother to read my point properly, you would realise that I wasn't attacking the moral values of St Kilda, merely that they shouldn't have used 'morals' for not taking Aker, only to then go and get Gardiner.

It's not rocket surgery.
Pretty simple really.

The Saints don't need any smart mouthed yobbo half forward flankers/forward pockets. We have our own already.

But we do need a ruckman. Badly, even one with a past, which , lets face it, we all really don't know very much about. Despite, claims to the contrary.

It's former Carlton people Hamill, Walls, Lyon -former assistant coach at Carlton, Silvagni and Sheldon who are using their experiences at a successfull club to turn your pathetic club into an average one. Enjoy the fact you've recruited another injury prone ruckman that is best suited to playing as a forward. Gardiner playing on the Telstra Dome surface every second week could be a recipe for disaster with his history of leg injuries. ;)

Gardiner, Milne and Gehrig should at least make for entertaining viewing off the field.

Gardiner won't win you a flag if he couldn't win one for a club with a better coach.

So your point is this: (correct me if wrong) "St. Kilda shouldn't have taken Michael Gardiner over Jason Akermanis because it is hypocritical. They didn't take Aker for "moral reasons" but took Gardiner who has more serious issues."

Okay, let me refute that argument:

Grant Thomas was coach of St. Kilda when the club said that they did not want Akermanis. GT's view was the club's view.

Akermanis was not wanted at St. Kilda and he said that his preference was to the Bulldogs.

Grant Thomas was sacked as coach.

Ross Lyon was appointed. He viewed things differently in terms of the "moral" issues players may have.
The club's position changed. Unfortunately they couldn't take Akermanis, as he had already gone to the Dogs, but it wasn't because of "moral" issues.

The club took Gardiner.

This was in no way hypocritical, because 1) There was a new coach, 2) The club's position on the issue changed and 3) Akermanis was unavailable anwyay as he wanted to go to the Bulldogs.

Is that simple enough for you to understand??

Are you a moron?
We have a new coach stupid. Things generally change around the club when you get a new coach. Gardiner was a number one draft pick and was an all australian in 2003. Lyon set out to get a good ruckman and he got one.

Gardiner will lift his game I reckon. Hes too talented to overlook in the draft regardless of his off field indescretions. A move away to the other side of the country is the start of his comeback to quality football I reckon.

Low Cost, Low Risk - PLenty of upside

if he doesn't perform or doesn't pull his head in they have lost $50k and a 3rd draft pick (25%)

If he performs average - he will be a better tap ruckman then any they have now and probably only be behind Cox, Jolly, Everitt, Lade as a pure tap ruckman. (50% chance imo)

If he gets back to somewhere near his ability it will be like winning lotto. (25% chance)

joke? that's a harsh call - gardiner has had some troubles but he certainly didn't disrupt the team

come to think of it, when he left he left with the support of ALL his teammates and even the coach said he was sorry to cut him but felt they had no choice

quite a different story to Aker who seemed to alienate himself from the rest of the group...but lets not go there, it's been done to death

time will tell whether the saints made the right move - personally i think the Saints did very well

birss and gardiner for pick #59 (?) is a great each-way bet in my books - they will still have some new blood in their 1st and 2nd rounders plus an AFL-ready ruckman and tallish ball carrier to boot

sure, it's all just speculation but I think they will look back on the trade with a smile in 12 months time ;)

The Saints did not want Everitt!! Or at least the players did not want him, a wise choice I would say. He has now left TWO clubs, and he would not be welcome back at either..Unfortunately Spida is NOT a TEAM man, he plays for himself. That is one of his biggest problems...Roos has a big job ahead of him..Good luck!!
Actually, he left Hathorn as they didn't do the right thing by him. There stupid policy of 1 year contracts for player sover 30 backfired, they should have offered him the two years he deserved.

How did he deserve it any more than Crawford who accepted the one year?
