I'd be shocked if we're not GF material, but anything can happen on the last day in September.

We were sure in 1997; we were the best team that year, but it didn't eventuate.

Go figure.

Not true. There is one day in September, and on that one day anything can happen.

Best of 7 like in NBA... then yes, Saints all the way. BUT.... the supposed best team doesn't always win.

Sometimes the team which is gutsy and wants it more wins. Take the Ess v Carl 99' Prelim.

It all comes down to 1 day when the top 2 teams of 16 play each other. Nothing is certain. Yes I believe the Saints will be there... but what happens from there is upto them.

22 straight wins will account for nothing if they don't win that ONE game. If you want to talk about teams which should have, could have, may have.......ask Port Adelaide.

Well the Saints just keep rolling on, and it's great to see! They were nothing short of awesome today, I've been impressed for many weeks now but each game that goes by they are just gaining more and more respect from me.

As a Lions supporter it is truly exciting to see sides such as the Saints and Demons stand up and (especially true in St Kilda's case) challenge us this season.

I hope it keeps up, it's great to see! :D

Geelong were pretty good as well in 1997 - on top of the ladder for more weeks of the year than any other team, only missing out on top spot after round 22 by a few % points.

If the AFL had not f&*#d us up in the finals by sending second placed us to play the reighning premier at their home ground under lights followed by Adelaide in Adelaide where the umpires were instructed not to pay any marks to us, Geelong may have shon as the best team of 1997.

St Kilda continue to beat every team they play. Difficult to see them finishing anywhere but first after the home and away season.

BUT....remember this:

2001 - Hawthorn win the first 8 games of the season. A couple key players succomb to injuries, momentum is lost. Would be interesting to see how the Saints cope without Gehrig in particular, or Riewoldt.

The reason the Lions are the best is they ride through the injuries and lift in September. The Saints are firing and answering every challenge. They still have a few to face yet.

Yes that is stating the obvious!

You may not, but your players have.

garabage, we haven't even put out our full squad once this season, i have maintained that for us to win and constantly, we must have our best 18 minimum.

Good sides with injury still play well with them. Look at Port, they have a lot of key injuries, but still perform well (most weeks).. Hawthorn just have not looked good and should not have got as close to Sydney as they did today. They are a shocking team in defence, and they really struggle up forward.

thats fine, i have maintained that we play best and perform best when we can put out our best squad, perhaps its a mental thing for the boys, i don't know, but having seen my side play at full strength against top sides, and at below strength against weak sides, thier is world of difference.

I am loving the current form right now, it is great to finally be back up there with a real shot at glory after so many lkong years in the proverbial wilderness.

Been a long, long time since we were clearly the best in the league, and Grant Thomas is still not blowing the lid just yet, it is important to realise we are on fire but have achieved nothing tangible as yet, and it will continue to stay that way if we become complacent and take our feet off the pedal.

The form is really positive though. A guy could get used to this. :D
