IMO the last 3 weeks shouldn't be seen as a form slump.

our zone and pressure would have to be extremely taxing on the players and maybe, just maybe the plan is to give them a bit of a physical and mental rest now, just to turn it back on and get our game plan perfect again in the next 4 weeks?

just an opinion

because they are playing worse with riewoldt in the side then without him.

not having "saint" nick forced them to look at other options for goal,a nd as soon as he came in they reverted to their predictable old habits going forward

Saints problems emanate from down back. They'll sort it well before the finals start and will be a prodigious force to reckon with.

In the words of Mark twain "reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

In the mean time though I'll be getting what value I can from the slump on here.:D

The window is shut..for now.

I think that's wishful thinking. No coach would do this if it meant risking a top 4 birth. Considering that you were extremely lucky to get a draw against Hawthorn, and really should have lost that game, you're lucky you're not out of the top 4 now (which you would be had you lost).

This.

They were winning matches ugly without Riedwolt but they look a weaker side with him in at the moment. Predictable and somewhat stale in attack.

Quite happy for people to write us off. The same people were writing off Geelong this time last year.
But for different reasons. Geelong never looked like missing out on top 4 last year.
We need to bounce back with a good win against Port this weekend though.
Absolutely. And if you don't then it's almost season over you would think.

I actually think we are ratshit now imo

Players look too tired and too slow, and our bottom six are barely vfl standard.

Want to be proven wrong, but its not looking good. I cant see us winning the flag.

How so?

We've made prelims from 6th spot and 4th spot in the past 3 years

And also a semi from 8th.

We lost to teams that finished above us each time and had been better all year. How is this turning to water?

The only finals chokes in recent memory came in 05 and 08, and they weren't from Collingwood.

they've been interstate sides all of them. the way its looking there could be 7 vic sides playing

Still the second best side behind Geelong

Collingwood yet to prove they are up to the standard required in finals. Bulldogs the same

Geelong v Saints GF for mine

If they finish Top 4 as they should they are a massive chance to beat Pies Or Cats as they have done this season. They probably need to make some tough calls on selection & they will be right in the mix.

Everyone is writing them off because most of the footy world can only remember a couple of weeks before they react. Therefore a team loses they are pretenders. A player has a couple of quiet ones he is overrated. Another player has a couple of good games and he is All Australian.

Only a couple of weeks ago the dogs were kidding themselves and recruiting Hall was a mistake. Now after beating Port and flogging the dockers and North all is well and they are in the mix.

There is no patience in footy circles because everyone is obsessed with it and so over the top with analysis that every week journalists, pundits, fans and everybody are looking for trends.

Ultimately in 2008 and 2009 the premier was not the form team at this stage of the season.

ahhh....the sheer level of sense is so refreshing.
right off the saints, and risk being embarrassed later, thats all i have to say.
absolutely top post :thumbsu:

You will know a lot about the Saints after this weekend.

It is time for them to click into gear, or not.

Roo is still not fully fit though. When he is he is worth two players due to his run: CHF and linking midfield option.

However the rest of his team-mates (apart from Lenny who always keeps on giving) now need to shine.

Finals is for stars not rookies - i cant wait to line up against u guys in a final - ablett, selwood, bartel, corey, lingy, kelly, chapman, johnson vs swan, didak, pendlebury and.......... who else any other rookies comin through

Yep. We're on top of the ladder with such a young list. We're awesome.

Jeez Cats fans turning the attention on the pies...lets keep the thread about the Saints...Not saying that they will win the GF but don't write them off by any means

Its not surprising the saints have been down in the last few weeks, teams are starting to realise we use Gilbert for just about every foray out of defense, tagging him puts pressure on the other defenders to rebound the footy, which most should be able to do but seem almost confused.

Maybe a blessing in disguise Dawson is out, attrocious footballer who butchers the ball and cant read the play to save his life.
