Why are everyone writing off the Saints??? Seriously they would be up there with Cats and slightly ahead of the Pies for me at the moment...they have been pretty consistent over 2 years and had a minor slip up late in the season (not unlike last year)

They still went on to push the Cats in the GF...The Pies have improved and I pray everyday that they will win the big one, but we still have much to prove and Cats won't be 100% confident of a win against the Saints in a GF

People on Bigfooty seriously need to stop over-reacting every time a team slips up slightly...There is a reason why the season and finals go on for as long as they do...to sort out consistency and strength

Everyone is writing them off because most of the footy world can only remember a couple of weeks before they react. Therefore a team loses they are pretenders. A player has a couple of quiet ones he is overrated. Another player has a couple of good games and he is All Australian.

Only a couple of weeks ago the dogs were kidding themselves and recruiting Hall was a mistake. Now after beating Port and flogging the dockers and North all is well and they are in the mix.

There is no patience in footy circles because everyone is obsessed with it and so over the top with analysis that every week journalists, pundits, fans and everybody are looking for trends.

Ultimately in 2008 and 2009 the premier was not the form team at this stage of the season.
 
Haven't written them off. At the same time, they are playing like a tired footy side, who have done their absolute best to fight on without their skipper. They are not gone, but realistically I only see 4 premiers (Cats, Pies, Dogs + Hawks if they get a good run). If Roo finds form though, watch out.

just wait until september until we find the form side. Imo, Coll, Geel or St Kilda are prob just as good as one another and any side with the form and a bit of luck could win it this year. All about september......

Can't you read? Last line of my paragraph says that AFL is about consistency (HINT: Over the season) and strength

Who cares if they have had a bad 3 - 4 weeks? Does that matter in September? They have one of the best..if not the best...KPP and a strong midfield with a tight defensive unit...

Finals are all about defense...and St Kilda being #1 in that aspect says something about them....
 
Theyd prefer to lose 3 now rather than to drop a couple in finals im sure.
 
Acheiving top four, it's all that's relevant right now...I know that, I think the players know that as well.

Really? With your draw to end the season...which team is gonna knock you out?? Freo have been savaged by injuries and are outsiders against NORTH :eek: Hawks are too far back...7th and 8th is a comedy of teams losing every week like last year

That's my point, if you were hanging out for the finals, what's the motivation?
 
because they are playing worse with riewoldt in the side then without him.

not having "saint" nick forced them to look at other options for goal,a nd as soon as he came in they reverted to their predictable old habits going forward

It's not a minor slip up, and it's nothing like last year. At this stage last year, St Kilda's spot in the top 4 was guaranteed. At the moment, they're 1 game away from being out of the top 4. Make no mistake, the 3 games they've just dropped aren't games they can afford to lose. Lose one more, and they could be in real strife.

Then you have to look at why they're losing game. Where are all their contested possession? What's happened to their defense? Make no mistake, the saints have got problems, and this isn't the end of the season you want the sort of problem they so desperately need to sort out. The way they're playing at the moment, I would be surprised to see them out of the top 4 come finals.

I still think that in the finals, us, Collingwood and Geelong are neck and neck. It was only 6 weeks ago we beat Geelong! I think with the inclusion of Riewoldt we've for some strange reason been making stupid decisions going forward and rather than hitting up a Milne or Schneider we go to Roo 3 on 1.

We had the same amount of inside 50s v Essendon but bombed it long to Riewoldt and Fletcher had a field day cutting off Lynch.

Don't write us off, we are still a good side and if we recapture our form we are right in it.

In finals, Collingwood turn to water.
 
How so?

We've made prelims from 6th spot and 4th spot in the past 3 years

And also a semi from 8th.

We lost to teams that finished above us each time and had been better all year. How is this turning to water?

The only finals chokes in recent memory came in 05 and 08, and they weren't from Collingwood.
 
It's important to bring good form into the finals, the saints have little time to produce something good considering they are playing teams outside the 8 in the remaining rounds.

I think the pies and cats deserve to be looked at as 'serious' flag contenders at the moment.
