I read in the papers that St Kilda want to appoint their coach for the 2001 season in September. Earlier on in the year they said they wouldn't even consider appointing a coach who hasn't had AFL experience as a senior coach (Unlike Watson who was thrown in the deep end) yet now it looks like Britton or Harvey could get the nod (although they have had excellent mentors, Parkin and Sheedy)

Suprisingly I also saw Stan Alves name being mentioned again, but I seriously doubt he would want to return after the way they sacked him. Also Wallace, Pagan and Malthouses names have been thrown in (although I believe most are still on coaching contracts with their respective club)

Who do you think will get the job and/or who would you like to see get it?

it wont be wallace he has just signed with the bulldogs for another three years and i cant believe it would be malthouse, it would break eddies heart
i reckon brittain but apparently big jack is doing everything he can to ensure he stays at carlton

I would love to see Brittain get the job

Just to stick it up Elliott and his oh-so-precious Bluebaggers.

Apparently Elliott does not want Brittain to go to the 'tragic' Saints. Thats fine John but how about offering Brittain some more money ?

I suppose he thinks just being part of the 'Old Dark Navy Blues' is reward enough ?

stupid wan*er.

And another question - I thought StK would never appoint another coach without senior experience. Brittain has not only never had seniors coaching experience but he has never even played the game - at all - AND he is a Queenslander.

What do you think of that sainter ?

As long as the club appoint someone with either senior coaching experience or a long apprenticeship as an assistant coach, our supporters will not tear the place down.

I would be very happy with Wayne Brittain to be honest. I realise that the major question mark over him is that he hasn't played the game at the highest level but he has proven over the past few years how capable he is. The fact that he is basically in charge of Carlton on match days over the past few years and how well they have performed proves this.

From all reports we have offerred him a $1.2 million contract to coach us over the next 4 years. This is in direct contrast to Carlton's $200,000 a year for the next two years. If he was offered the senior position at Carlton, he would probably stay. But if not, I think he may very well lead our club next year. Unlike Dermie, who would only coach a side if they had the "cattle", guys like Brittain have been waiting for an opportunity for ages and would jump at the chance to finally take the helm of a club.

So in answer to your question Grendel and BA, he gets my vote of confidence for sure.

And while I might be biased, I honestly don't think we are the rabble that we are made out to be. We are in a rebuilding stage and as such have a lot of young players that were given senior experience. This year we have the first two picks in the national draft and will hopefully get a guy like Shaun Rehn in the pre-season draft. (If you team doesn't trade for him Grendel

)

Now that our new President/Vice President have been appointed, the infighting of the board will hopefully end and gives us all a fresh new start next year.

Like Gonzo has just said, another potential candidate who has really impressed me is Brian Royal. Triple M interviewed him the other day and I liked what I heard. He didn't deny speaking to the club and basically ignored the line of questioning asking why he wanted to coach a club like St Kilda. Plus he has coached a country side for two years, then worked as an assistant to Terry Wallace for 4 years and now with Neale Daniher means he has a lot of experience.

And GoEagles, there is far more to the sacking of Stan Alves than the public know. Apparently there were a few in-house incidents and if what I have heard is true, the club were right to sack him.

Exactly BA!

I think Elliott may be banking on the "we couldn't have someone associated with Carlton to go to a team with such a "tragic" history" factor and that is why he hasn't been offered as much money.

There also seems to be rumours floating that suggest St Kilda have not given up on Wallace or Pagan although I couldn't see them leaving.

The interesting thing about Brittain is that David Parkin seems to be the vital link.

If Parkin stays on at Carlton, Brittain is a chance to coach us. If Brittain is appointed Carlton coach, Sydney and St Kilda have looked at appointing Parkin as a director of coaching, overseeing a younger group of coaches (in our case).

Very interesting times for us all.
