Saturday night was my second time at Stadium Australia, and the venue bites big time!!

For one the seating is the Waverley style with the stands stretching backwards further than at the G or Colonial. This really does put you a long way from the sction.

Two..it is completely Tooheys, but that is just my bias coming out.

Third and finally it took us over an hour of queing to even get onto a train back into the city. The system is an absolute joke, and then you have to put up with a 30 minute trip to civilisation. So we got back into Bondi at 1:20am!! I for one will never go to any other football game out there. Funny how this sort of thing never gets mentioned by the media when the AFL Spin Doctors are at work.

Not to mention that you have to go down that STUPID circular ramp, get a pass out, and re-enter the ground, to just go from the top level down to the bottom.

It took us 2 hours to get home to our hotel in Rushcutters Bay. Not that we really minded at all ... there were many, many renditions of the EFC song ... and "we love you cos you're a Victorian!!!"

We were told many a time to **** off back to Victoria! No problems ... we'll take them 4 points with us thank you!

Sydney ...

... pretty city

... no soul

What a load of crap. Stadium Australia is awesome as an AFL ground. Beats the hell out of the SCG.

You melbournites get spoilt with the MCG and Colonial.

Admittedly the SCG isn't great, but that comparison is pointless as they are two of the worst three grounds to watch football from, with Princes Park being in the mix. However at least with PP you can get away from there very easily on Public Transport and it isn't located at the @rse-end of the earth!

Must admit on TV it looked very waverley like (alnbeit wit seats and new grandstands.

I do think it's funny that the use the same sets of arguments for and against but swap them over when they talk about waverley and stadium australia.

Still - soon waverley will be the biggest 1,000 capacity joint around.

Hardly pointless if you live in Sydney.

Does PP have a train line, does it have multi-story car parks, does it have a ferry terminal ?

What are you doing up here anyway. Did you catch the wrong flight to go to your teams home game.

I was up in Sydney with a few mates who are Bomber fans, and everyone of them was in agreeance that SA is a woeful venue.

Princes Park doesn't need a multi-level carpark or ferry terminal as you can catch a tram from the CBD and be there in 5 minutes.

I much prefer going to the SCG than Stadium Australia at any rate, as both venues have poor facilities, bloody SA still has to use porta-loos! But with the SCG you don't have to travel too far, and there aren't hour long queues just waiting for any Public Transport.

Well that proves it then.

Not if there was 55,000 there. And who lives in the CBD anyway.

Your experience of Sydney must be limited to the eastern suburbs. It took me as long to get to the SCG as SA from the Inner west. Anyone west of me (ie most of Sydney) would find it significantly easier to get to SA.

SA has outstanding facilities. I didnt see any port-a-loos and inside the stadium I didnt find any queues to the loos or food (maybe 3 deep at most). It is still under construction, so I wouldnt be suprised if their were port-a-loos somewhere.

But the location is a bit of a "waverly" with trains, so it will struggle for non-event games of any code. The Canterbury Bulldogs pulled out of SA for their H&A games because of this.
But for a few big AFL games, SOO RL, RU tests, and any finals, its the bees knees.

I like the SCG better. From the Members, Ladies, O'Reilly, Brewongle, Bradman and Churchill stands you are pretty much looking straight down at the action. At SA, you are too far away from the action.

Can't vouch for the Walters stand - haven't been there and don't intend to.

Judging by the lines waiting for trains no one from the outer west goes to Swans games. The Western line was clear in about 10 minutes, ulike the city line which was ridiculous. You would think after being in operation for over 2 years they would have a few clues by now!

well you should have headed behind the goals because that was where they were and inside the stadium I didnt find any queues to the loos or food (maybe 3 deep at most). That was probably because they are a Tooheys venue. It is still under construction, so I wouldnt be suprised if their were port-a-loos somewhere. Still under construction 2 years after the Olympics, gee the unions must be laughing up in Sydney.

But the big problem then is that if they get more than 20k, the Public Transport system falls to *****.

My God you Mexicans are a bunch of Morons.
Stadium Australia is the most modern Show piece in the Southern Hemisphere and it now proves that we can play Aussie rules as well as Thugby League and Union as well as gridiron on the park.
Iwas there when it was being build,I was there during the Olympics and I have been back there at least 6 other times, and each time it is more auwsome than the time befor.
And yes there is a ferry that goes there as well as trains, buses and cabs and if you feel lazy there are car parks all around so you poor little Mexicans dont have to walk far....S.A. doesnt look ANYTHING like Waverley.....where did you get your eyes from out of a cornflakes packet....you have been watching TOOOOOO much Thugby League.

Let me get this right:
1) You were sitting in the crappy seats, which are in the process of having some removed and a roof added - and you complain about port-a-loos
2) You were travelling from Bondi (other side of the city) - and are complaining about public transport.

You are a born whinger. You'd complain about the price of ferraris after you've won lotto.

Please stay in Melbourne.

He meant it is still under reconstruction. The high end stands have been removed which is where the construction was going on. By next winter there wil be a roof over the ends and presumably the construction area will be gone and facilities similar to the rest of the venue will exist.

As for the portaloos - I didn't see them myslef but if you had walked 30-40 metres in either direction you would have come across excellent and capacious permanent facilities.

At SA there are about 50 rows of seating at concourse level. This is similar to my memory of Waverley but at SA the tiering is MUCH steeper so the view is MUCH better. IIRC the southern stand at the MCG also as about 40 rows of seats at concourse level with rather shallow banking.

cjwalkley, you are a FLIP....why not live in deceint part of Sydney....you dont call Bondi Sydney do you....I thought that it was 'LITTLE NEW ZEALAND' out there.
The only transport you have got is cabs and you are ricj bastards if you live there any way.
It casts $5:50 return to travel from Liverpool to Olympic Park and Liverpool is a lot further from there than Bondi is?????
Wakey Wakey hands off snakey

Further to my last post.....cjwalkely lives in LILYDALE....is that near Eastern suburbs or is that Northern suburbs....I dont know where that place is...can you tell me....PLEASE

Lilydale is in the far eastern suburbs of Melbourne! I'm not surprised it took him several hours to get home!

Stadium Australia is a long way behind the MCG, Colonial Stadium and the Gabba in almost every aspect. It holds more than the Gabba and Colonial, yet a lot of those seats are in very ordinary positions. They might be good for RL, but for Aussie Rules they are very poorly planned. I was first there for the Gridiron and put down it's transport inadequacies to teething problems, however it is still an abysmal public transport system. It wouldn't have mattered if I was going to Redfern or Strathfield or the city, it still took over an hour in a queue to get on a train.

I agree that SA doesn't look like Waverley, just the way the seating is spaced out. Unlike Waverley though which had a great surface, SA was unsuitable for Aussie Rules. Mate you can play quoits on the park, doesn't stop the thing from being a White Elephant!

This is more a problem of scheduling than of the stadium. The station is right there and can handle a train every 60 seconds. Tere just needs to be more trains. For NRL games I imagine the bulk of the patrons are heading west so perhaps the they got the scheduling mix of trains wrong.

But the time I came out of the stadium after they cleared the field I couldn't see any sign of any queues anywhere. My son left immediately, got straight on a bus and was at a mate's party in Narrabeen in by 11pm

The crappy seats should still have decent amenities, and a reasonable view of the game.

Read the previous post, it wouldn't matter where the majority of crowd was going they still had to queue for over an hour to even get on a train.

After a weekend in Sydney staying in Melbourne sounds so inviting it isn't funny.

MCG - 40 rows in olympic stand, 32 in southern stand - taking the same amount of space up.
