They actually have to make it smaller before they will put the oval in. It is due to be made smaller but Footy is unlikely to be there until.

Stealth, it is being reported here that there is no drug testing on professional football, basketball players in the US, is that correct?

Well, the NFL and NBA and all the pro sports here have so-called "substance abuse" policies but they're generally pretty mild and more along the lines of cocaine and pot (usually first and second offenses basically consist of short suspensions).

A well known baseball pitcher was reinstated SEVEN TIMES.

I believe most performance enhancing drugs aren't "allowed" but I don't know how much of that is enforced or not. My guess is they attempt to screen every athlete they can but the tests are probably easily beaten.

Typical example of our hypocrisy...we'll be the first to point out "Drugs are bad...mmkay?" but when celebrities are involved we tend to look the other way.

Major league baseball allows the use of some muscle building products....Mark McGwire for example used something called creatine, which was and is perfectly legal.

Apparently, when it's reconfigured for AFL, Stadium Australia will hold 75,000 people.

If the Swans are travelling well, and they are towards the top of the ladder, a big game against, say Calton, or Essendon, could easily get 60,000.

Remember, the Swans have capped their membership in Sydney, so they have huge potential at such a big stadium.

yeah dan i heard they are, pretty much straight after the games, it will go from about 110,000 to about 90,000
making the G still the biggest and greatest stadium in australia

i also caught something on the news a week or two ago saying that the afl wasnt happy with the proposed changes to the stadium in regards to making it suitable for footy

They are hoping the configuaration will look like this and the 2 stands be knocked down and have undercover seating instead!

The AFL is very concerned about moving out to Stadium Australia because it is a shocking ground.
For any of you who have been to Sydney, you will know that Stadium Australia is out in the middle of no-where. Its about 20km from City Centre, in the worst location.
And for those who have been inside the stadium it is the worst ground to view from. When your on the lower tier, you can not see a thing when the play is down the other end of the ground.
My bet is for the AFL to back out of their agreement to play 12 games there each year.

Stadium Australia is alot eaiser to get to then the scg i reackon! dont have get any dumb buses from the train station to get there and not have to get the bus thorugth peak hour trafic.

Does anyone know what the MCG will be able to hold after work is done for the 2006 Commonwealth Games? I heard it will be 90,000 or a little under while they are doing work on the stadium but I haven't heard of the max. figure it will be able to hold.

The MCC have said that when they are rebuilding the Northern, Members & Ponsford Stands they are going to do little bit by little bit and the total capacity won't drop below 75,000 at any one time.

But I'd still have my money on the AFL sending the GF up to Sydney for 1 year atleast (2002? 2003?) no matter what they or the MCC may say as of now.

WCE2000, you're being a bit tough on the Olympic Stadium. 100,000 people went there twice a day for the whole of this last week without any trouble so it is hardly difficult to get to. The OS takes 22 minutes by train from Central - how long does it take to get to the SCG from Central station??

In terms of view, I spent time on the concourse level and level 6 (front and back) and all were excellent vantage points. Level 6 is no further back than level 4 on the GSS at the MCG, level 1 (the concourse) slopes more than the similar areas at the SCG and MCG so you can see over the person in front of you. As well the rows are further apart so if you are 6 feet tall you can sit down and let people pass in front of you - try that at the GSS at the MCG. Food and bar outlets, toilets etc are all much more accessible at the OS as well. It will be a great venue for the Swans in 2002 provided the AFL doesn't pike out of the deal with the owners of the stadium.

Forgot to mention - according to Swans member info from earlier this season, the ground will be precisely the same size as Colonial (ie same length and width) and will seat 78,000 in AFL configuration after the end stands are gone. These hold another 30,000 and there are lots of people advocating they remain till after the rugby world cup in 2003 (?) based on the 109,000 crowds at the last two matches against NZ.
