Impressive. No idea how that retractable astro turf thing will work. I see you're trying to out do our Kop. Lolz.

Guess that settles that.

Interesting and impressive if it works. Personally I'd be concerned about the effect the pitch being movable as it would have to be on a structural concrete substrate and minimise the depth so it's easier to move. I could imagine an Etihad Stadium type pitch being the outcome where the quality of the surface is lacking and the surface doesn't have as much "give" as one built on thicker ground. Will reserve judgement until it's finished though.

I'm more concerned with the system that interchanges the two pitch types.
It's been done with the possibility of a future EPL/NFL double header in mind.

Imagine the logistical nightmare if the retractable system fails on that day.
Am glad they've been testing it at the training facility first. Good way to test its feasibility as well as improve on any shortcomings.

We've just taken sports stadia into the 22nd century 83 years ahead of schedule. Now I feel sad that I won't ever get to see sports stadia in the 22nd century, but least we've got the new white hart lane

It's interesting but will reserve judgement until i see what the Spurs pitch looks like. I'd be against anything or anyone sharing Anfield and if anyone did share, if it hurt LFC in anyway then I'd be mad. If the pitch is fine and great then good for Spurs but if it brings problems, well thats great for the rest of us haha.

Schalke's stadium has a retractable pitch, doesn't it?
From what I can recall the Schalke pitch retracts outside so the grass can receive more sun rather than it being interchangeable for different sports, whereas Spurs will be much trickier as one pitch will have to sit on top of the other.

The football pitch being broken into 3 sections will be the biggest challenge, how they deal with the junctions between the 3 sections in particular. They will have to allow for them to expand/contract (the same way bridges have expansion joints) but also keep these junctions completely flush so it doesn't affect the playing surface. Personally I would have thought keeping the football pitch flat on the ground but having the astroturf NFL pitch sliding out over it would have been the better solution.

I don't like it personally, the maintenance on that will cost a ****ing fortune over a 20-30 year cycle.

Pitch will be pretty hard as well by the look of it

Thought it would be worth noting how amazing the Wanda Metropolitano looks. Griezmann says it's the best stadium he's ever played in.

Just awarded the right to host the Champions League final in 2019. Would be awkward if Real win it.

Brentford announced that their stadium development was ticked off by the council. Think it's due for completion in 2020.

Bojan KantKick i suggest getting out to Griffin Park and seeing a championship game there and doing the pub crawl around the ground. There's a pub at each corner it

thanks for the heads up mate

My best mate (who recently moved back over) was a ball boy at Brentford. He’s a QPR diehard but has always recommended Griffin Park. One of the better old school stadiums left in England.

What’s the go with the development?

Griffin Park is tiny and if they're any chance to progress any further they need a new ground. They've got an interesting owner who made his money out of football betting I think

Guy is also a big fan of moneyball and owns FC Midtjylland as well (winning the title under him). Most underrated owner in football IMO.

Think that moneyball approach has reached its cap with Brentford. Got them close to the playoffs when I was there but they don't look like going back any time soon. Would love to see them go back up. As close to a second team I've got anywhere in the world

Crunch time. Roof has to be on in about 4-5 weeks.
'Kop' stand taking shape though.
Those steel columns in the first image are pretty spectacular, never seen anything like that.

Read recently that the construction cost has rumoured to have blown out from £400m to £1 billion. Any updates from the club?

The columns will sit inside the stadium structure as it will have the roof support steel columns behind it.

£400m was the original design budget back in about 07 from memory. Was about 650m when we were tendering to get the Olympic Stadium (to demolish and start over). I think the ‘ballooning costs’ are brexit related but also include the additional projects on the same site.

Extra costs include constructing a hotel on the free land vacated by the old stadium, community health centre, club museum, improvements to High Road as well as upgrades to Tottenham Hale and White Hart Lane stations (may be constructing one too, not sure).

So £1bn isn’t the stadium by itself. The NFL has already advanced money to pay for the stadium replacable pitch system construction and I think Westfield may be buying the hotel.

Thought bubble time bit I thought a dockside stadium with three sides built could have various pitch arrangements floated in and locked in place, meaning the various pitches could have natural grass propagated outside.

Tidal would be an issue but the barges could compensate with ballast

You could have an oval, an athletics set up, and rectangular fields set a few m lower and a few tiers of seating around, meaning the barges were a standard size

Wouldn't be surprised to see us play our first 5-10 games of next season away from home. I know they were budgeting for the first 2 or 3 away but I think it might be more than that.

I wouldn't mind that if it means we dont have to play another season at Wembley.

If we have to play at Wembley next season I may lose the will to live.
Well maybe not, but I probably will lose the will to watch us play there.
