Stafford cited
2:36:33 PM Tue 13 April, 2004

Richmond ruckman Greg Stafford has been cited on video evidence for engaging in rough play.

The report says Stafford made ‘unreasonable and unnecessary’ contact with St.Kilda’s Jason Blake.

The incident, which occurred in the opening term, saw Blake cop a knee in the back and suffer a serious back injury.

Blake has two fractured lumbar vertebrae and is expected to spend the next six to eight weeks on the sidelines.

The league’s video reports officer Ian Robinson laid the charge Tuesday afternoon, with Stafford to face the tribunal on Wednesday evening.

Rightly so. I'm sick of stafford doing the undiciplined things and hurting players for no reason. He's lost the plot. Too many stray elbows and knees IMO.

But then again, he could have been CONCUSSED and not had his full senses like Blake according to Thomas.

I didn't think it looked deliberate. Looked like Staff was skidding into Jason Blake. I'll be really cross if Staff gets suspended and Hamill doesn't.

I just have to say that it is a real disappointment that Fox Footy are not allowed to televise the tribunal hearings. This week would be a doozee:D

Would love to witness the defence the Saints put up for Baker.

Ditto with our own Staffy - I can see it now Wallsy volunteering to be cheif prosecutor

Shane Crawford crying I had my eyes on the ball.

Spider and his finger - the list is endless

Thats pretty much the way i viewed it . Line ball decision as to how the tribunal will see it.
Take your yellow and black hats off for a second. Stafford ran past the ball, before planting his knees fair into the back of Blake (who was out of play mind you). I think the tribunal might just see this as a deliberate act. He got lucky the last couple of years, but his luck is about to run out. 4-6 weeks for cracking 2 verterbrae is not unreasonable and a strong deterrent to others. Likewise Baker should get at least 4-6 weeks for his cowardly cheap shot on Kane Johnson.

Gawn because
1. reckless putting knees into back over boundary
2. more importantly he broke Blakes back FFS the poor dude is out for 8 weeks. thats $20,000. Staff should pay it.

Stafford's knee seemed to contact Blake in the kidney area rather than the vertebrae and Blake also twisted badly as he fell. It will be interesting to see if what caused the injury (ie the knee or the twisting or a combination) is a point of argument. The 10 commentators said at half time Blake had injured his kidney, which seemed more consistent with the contact. Not sure that it will help Staff either way if the tribunal decide to come down on him, other than the length of any suspension. If he does go, I just hope they make it consistent in future with knees - I've seen plenty of occassions where players have more obviously dropped the knee and not even been cited.

On top of that it went against us anyway. Ottens was palming the ball wherever he liked against Blake, but when the other joker came on he put a bit more pressure on in the ruck duels so that, while we still won the hitouts, they were less effective.

I support Staff on this mainly because the Saints went the man
first, therefore setting the tone of things to come.

We all know Staffs style of play (GANGLY AND POINTY)
so it's nothing out of the norm
for him to ACCIDENTLY slide into someones back and Break a couple
of vertabraes.

yeah you cant blame stafford for being an unco

hell the whole team is unco, might as well suspend them all.

I saw the incident aswell and I dont think there is anything intention at all.

He was behind blake at the time and was skidding along the ground when he went into the back of blake

just because of the incident last year with Everitt, his name has been tarnished. An accident is an accident.

as for paying 20 grand, you can get stuffed BALLDALROOXGOD

Just saw another vision of staff - i can't see the contact. Looks like the Saint player did it himself as he hit the ground.

But i am blind. I've seen him put the knee in before but i can't see it here.
