Good news. I heard from a reliable source as soon as he was injured that he was looking at moving on next year. Hope he stays. However, Benny-Mac is priority one for me.

OUTS: Thomson, C.Jones, Graham, Armstrong.
ON TO VETERANS LIST: Fletcher, Wirrpanda
OFF VETERANS LIST: Braun

That leaves us with 6 spots on the senior list. Upgrade Davis and Wilkes and use 4 draft picks.

I agree with this.

The problem though, is that it only leaves us with 4 rookie spots, meaning we can't re-rookie Thomson without cutting one of Wilson, Arrowsmith, Stevenson or Sullivan.

So am I right to assume that when someone goes on the veterans list, they basically get taken off the main list of 40 players?
We have 45 players on our list atm and 6 are rookies, which means we have 39 players and 1 is on the veterans list (Braun). So does this mean for list lodgement we have 38 players out of a maximum of 40?

If this is the case and we have 38 players, we upgrade 2 rookies to make it 40, but then we put wirra and fletch on the veterans list bringing it back to 38 which means we would only have to delist 2 for us to have 4 draft picks? also if we delist thompson than re rookie list him that means we can have one more rookie spot and also only have to actually "get rid" of one player?

The maximum senior list size is 38.

I also realise we would have to get rid of a rookie to keep Thomson, but I can't find anyone more worthy of being delisted. Unless we can turn 4 good draft picks into 3 higher ones.

first list lodgement is a maximum of 35 players ie a minimum of 3 places for the draft.

Friday, October 31 (2pm) -- Club List Lodgement List 1 - maximum 35 players, rookie promotion, retained rookies, scholarship player transfer and international scholarship.

All rookies are on 1 year deals at a time they get delisted and possibly relisted at the rookie draft.

I don't think thompson can be redrafted as a rookie as he has been on the main list - remember Brad smith.

Brad Smith was too old, nothing to do with the main list

untrue, we tried to have him listed on the rookie list under exceptional circustances (2 knee reconstructions -never played a game) the AFL let Essendon list Rama to their rookie list (as he had cancer) but did not accept our reasons for brad.

Point being that if a player has been on a senior list he can't then be rookie listed unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Players can be rookie-listed no matter what their history as long as they are under 23. For example, Fremantle put Dunn and Mourish on their rookie lists this season after they were on the senior list.

A player 23 or over can be put on the rookie list if they've never been on a list before (mature-age rookie). Essendon got an exemption for Rama, we tried to get one for Smith and failed.

We can give players a second year on the rookie list without having to put them back into the draft.

happy to stand corrected - is that a recent change or am I just wrong?

You are just wrong.

After 2006, the AFL introduced a new mature-aged rookie list. Players above the age limit (e.g. Brad Smith) could go onto that list as a rookie, but only if they had not been on a list before (to try and give some older state league players a chance to live their dream).

The normal rookie list remained as it has always been and there are no limits other than age (used to be a max of 3 years, but this is no longer true, e.g. Wilkes' 4th year this year).

"2015 – 38 senior list, nine rookies in line with other AFL clubs."

Says in this article is this correct as people have been bagging me for thinking so. Also vets count towards rookie list spots so if you have two veterans on your list you can only have 7 rookies. But you can still have 38 listed players as veterans get taken off the main list?

The AFL has also recently updated this part as well. Now it applies to anyone who has not played an AFL game. So Brad Smith could get rookie listed this year for instance. Strange but true.
