Staker - gawn?

Actually yes. Staker was at a party on Saturday night and was telling a friend of mine everything first hand. He would like to stay at the Eagles but the extra money is tempting him plus he wants to play in the midfield and the Eagles can't guarantee that, while other clubs are prepared too.

It's amazing how the players shoot off their mouths to complete strangers at parties about their contractual status.

How do I get an invite to these parties?

Was thinking the same thing....

Don't agree with getting rid of Army, he has proved his worth this year. he may not be in our best 22 but it's all about depth and he has shown us his versatlity. Keep him :thumbsu:

I was at woosha's house and he said he'll stay:rolleyes: Give me a break all this crap about inside information is just that crap. As stated before the ONLY ONES who know what is happening about the coming and goings at the club are the people at the club themselves. Stop trying to big note yourself. We finish playing this week and then the club will start signing who they want to stay as all clubs do at the end of the year. it's called a review. If Brent has not been signed up before trade week then he could be traded, even then it's no certainity. Until I read it on our web site, not hear it on the news, read it in the paper or on ones of these sites then Brent has as much chance as being with the club as any off our players next year bar Brauny.:(

This is a footy forum. I receive a lot more information than you would be aware of and the fact that Staker was spotted meeting with Swans officials has already been reported. Seriously, you need to get a life if you think passing on information is someone trying to grand stand.

Being better than Rosa is hardly a claim to fame. Rosa is a fringe player in an ordinary side. Armstrong is an older, smaller, fringe player in a very ordinary side.

If we are looking at players to de-list Armstrong should be right in the gun. Good sides dont have too many list cloggers and Armstrong is certainly one.

If you have any ability and are played 70% of the game in the middle in your 7th AFL season, you should be able to get the ball a bit. Thats all armstrong has done. Its what blokes like Richard Taylor did in 2001. Its no reason at all to keep him on the list.

So we should trade or de-list all of our fringe players?

If an injury occurs he is a perfect replacement.

I didn't say he isn't in the gun, I said there are others to be de-listed ahead of him.

Why de-list someone who is playing well as opposed to someone who has "potential" which he has very rarely shown?

Perhaps we are asking the wrong question. When we are raising the question 'Who should we trade, Staker or Army?' IMO a more effective question would be 'Why should we keep Staker or Army?'

Stop making this and discussions like it an emotive subject and look at it as a business transaction. Because that is what they are these days. At this time of the season they aren't Staker and Army, they are 2 sets of arms and legs.

2 of the more elusive (but most highly prized) qualities that make up the 'complete' player is a footy brain and consistency. Llook at Greg William as an example. He had these 2 qualities in spades but he was slow,he was small, he was 'fat', if he had to roost the ball the best he could muster was a big 15 mtr torpedo and he probably had halitosis. But he was a GREAT player. Neither Staker nor Army exhibit brains nor consistency so they are starting on an even keel here.

But lets look at what happens when they take to the field.
  • When Army enters the arena replacing any of a handful of similar players 15 mins into the 1st Q, their small defender or the direct mid oppenent takes him and the play continues. The move does little to cause panic in the opposition camp, in fact it may even offer them attacking options as Army isn't a naturally attuned defensive player.
  • When Staker enters the arena replacing any of a handful of similar or disimilar players 15 mins into the 1st Q, whiteboards are reached for and a raft of opposition coaches and advisors are required to change game plans and strategies. Operationally that is the definition of versatility in this context.
Army is a hard doer who has shown some real fight down the back half of the season but he simply doesn't offer the opportunities that Staker does.

If we are building a quality side then some hard decisions have to be made. Staker has not held down a position since joining the club. He's a great guy, but it would be in his interests and WCE's to do a trade.
Seaby also deserves to be a No1 ruckman at a club. Living in the shadow of Coxy is very hard.
Hansen again is a great guy, but needs a new challenge.

Armstrong, Graham and Cones are not top standard player. The younger players are ahead of them. I doubt we'd get a trade for any of the three.

Fletch and Wirra are vets, and champions. We will have the same main list, regardless of whether they stay on. But their experience and mentoring value in training is invaluable on it's own.

Who said he talked to the swans the media. Now they're so reliable. I run our cheer squad and can hear information around the tracks too, ie by someone claiming to have talked to player x. The difference is that I never believe half the crap I hear or read. This is a footy forum as you said but unless you have PROVEN facts then don't write it. You obviously don't read what is posted at the beginning of this forum about checking facts.

Would attract good trade value, maybe around pick 20, with the depth in this years draft we could pick someone very handy up with that pick. We could have 4 picks all under the 22 mark again this year!

Footy forums wouldn't exist, nor would most newspapers, if everything was a "proven fact". We could extend that to radio, tv and every form of media including the one we are using now.
So, let's recap. It has been reported that Staker was in Sydney meeting with the Swans by a couple of Sydney newspapers; The West Australian has reported that he hasn't signed a new contract that the Eagles offered sometime ago, which the Eagles have confirmed.
Staker was at a party on Saturday telling people that he has received offers from other clubs and he is weighing that up.
Even without that last sentence that point is obvious because he has had a firm offer for a month on the table from the Eagles and not signed.
(They actually offered him a new contract in the pre-season which he knocked back because he wanted a three-year deal not two years).

Give staker the midfield for next season, Its what the man wants and he has shown he is capable. Tell him he has the whole year in the midfield to prove to himself and the club that he should be on our list and playing there.
If he plays 2-3 fantastic games and 18-20 crappy ones than atleast both him and the club know for a fact that he is not worth persisting with. That way we will know FOR SURE that he is worth keeping or de-listing, rather than always wondering.

Not one of those will be traded apart from either Staker or Seaby.

he must be on that special 'something' 24/7, because its not anything different to what he usually says.
