The NSW mafia (aka the Australian team leadership group) were all involved in this scandal - Smith, Warner, Hazelwood and Lyon. This toxic cheating NSW culture must be removed from all aspects of leadership of the Australian team.

Yes, the problem is the state they were born in and the massive conspiracy against Victorians.

Seriously, you are the most parochial bunch in the country.

SMITH IS A DISGRACE. Drop him as captain and then from the side.

Think there has been a massive over reaction and a lot of blokes throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Plenty of other countries have been involved with ball tampering incidents and their players have continued playing. The PC Police need to chill out. So who is with me?

This by an Essedon fan.

Think someone is taking the piss. lol. Nice one!

Let's be real, if Maxwell had been picked this wouldn't have happened.

pricks are ruining the socceroos aswell taking constant potshots at postecoglou who only won us the asian cup and got us back into the world cup with a very average side to the point where he got fed up with all the bullshit and quit then putting there pal g. arnold back in charge absolute farce.

ALL press is based in Sydneyyyyyyyyyyyyy
From Foxtel. ABC,Daily tele channel 9 (common tators) ABC radio/tv SBS etc etc
and they all tell nice things about NSW players , re,member what they did to Ponting, Nick,

look at Moises, SOK, as players were overated

Suspend him, and let him come back as a player, not captain. I don't think he has enough credits in the trust bank for that.

Kudos for coming out and admitting it.

Deserves the opportunity to earn a second chance, if that makes sense.

hear hear

He'll learn from this but he has to cop what's coming on the chin.

Coming out and admitting the issue took strength and courage which was pleasing to see.

Probally the reason why Maxwell was not selected is because he would not accept that crap.If he was smart he would just give up test cricket and focus on the short form of cricket where the big bucks are and continue playing with his mates at local cricket at Fitzroy Doncaster.

The game is so heavily skewed to batsmen it's not funny. A little bit of extra dirt on the ball won't hurt
Play on.

Everyone does it including England in 2005.

Ball tampering should be allowed as it’s a batsmen’s game anyway.
Except it's:
- not premeditated
- they get a kid to do the dirty work
- Australia is the first team to scream "bloody murder" when anyone else does it

Well, I thought he was a mediocre captain to begin with. This incident further emphasises the fact.
How short people's memories are. Do you remember what sort of rabble this side was a couple of years ago?

Smith has always been a very mature leader - plain speaking, well respected by his players, and seemingly a great mentor to a very inexperienced and at times fragile side. He was a bit of a tactical nuffie, but so what?

Half the reason I'm so shocked is because he's one of the last captains I would have expected it from. He's always come across as 'what you see is what you get'.

You have just hit on exactly what I'm finding so hard to reconcile about this. I did not think Smith would do something like this.

If it had been Warner I would have been less shocked. But Smith? No. It's hard to look at it in any way other than a junior member of the size being exploited and I did not think Smith would do such a thing. And, even if he was influenced by Warner or Starc for example, ultimately as captain it absolutely falls on him.

I'm not really being hyperbolic when I say that I genuinely felt a bit sick to the guts when I woke up this morning and heard all of this.

Love Smitty, Warner, Boof, and the whole team for that matter. But Smitty at the presser says the leadership group discussed doing it... I mean, wth is that??

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out over the next couple day, and weeks.

It's still just hard to believe that this madness has happened. tut tut tut.
Stupid, stupid, and even more stupid...

Use a butter menthol next time. A bit of tape with some grit from the pitch stuck to it?? wow lol

I honestly don't care about what happens from this point onwards.

I won't be watching the rest of this series, and I think I will struggle to take any interest in professional cricket for the foreseeable future.
Is that an overreaction, given for example what Essendon did. People did not walk away from football.

1. Don’t be so naive.
2. Irrelevant.
3. Why does that even matter? Just because we have done it now doesn’t mean calling it out in the past is wrong.

I’m hating this whole incident but does anyone else find it vaguely funny that aside from their tape plan being ridiculously blatant it didn’t even work and the umpires didn’t see the need to change the ball? We can’t even cheat right...

Something up with NSW and WA at the moment

Strip Smith of the captaincy, fine him whatever he was paid for the South African tour and suspend for three to six months would be about right, there is no excusing a leader for sitting in a meeting that agrees to cheat.
