melbourne (saints)
i have watched the whole of stewies career and after his first season if someone had of said to me that he would be an all australian 3 times, club b/f winner, e.j whitten medal winner, kick over 550 goals and play 300 games for the saints, i would have told them they were dreaming whilst pissing myself laughing.

it is an absolute credit to this man that he is regarded as one of the great chf's of the 90's and one of the greatest overhead marks of all time. as each season progressed buckets improved as a footballer. he worked tirelessly on his kicking limitations and used his fitness and marking ability to great effect on the field. he is a classic role model to young footballers, in that with sheer persistence, will power and hard work you can overcome any shortcomings in your game and succeed at the highest level.

i will stand and applaud him on saturday because he is a self made footballer, great club man, has played years of great footy, and for the loyalty he showed to the saints when big money was being offered from interstate.

stewie loewe, a st kilda legend.

AS a Hawthorn supporter i wont be at the game but i would like to offer my congratulations to Stewart Leowe on 300 magnificent games for St Kilda (im sure not all were magnificent but it sounds good)

*stands and applauds* Well done Buckets!!

and to think he couldve been a Hawk......well done Stuart, and all the best for your wife illness, ive been there and i know how difficult it must be for you to carry on with that hanging over your heads...all the best to a true loyal player

I still havent forgiven him for slotting one home from fifty out to win a game for the Saints against the Hawks in the early 90's. I mean Stewie Loewe for #$&$% sake!?!

Still, well played to a bloke that worked so hard and became a truly excellent footballer.

But Stewie, from fifty?? Sheesh....

BUBBA,

You did have another CHF with the number 23 at that time so not selecting Stewie wasn't that much of a surprise.

Well said STL,

I was only 6 when he first joined the club and I consider myself honoured to have seen his career unfold.

When he retires, Stewie will go down as one of the strongest marks the game has seen. But even better, he will go down as someone not blessed with a lot of natural talent but who worked hard on his deficiencies to have a magnificent career.

Along with guys like Nathan Burke he has become almost like the heart and soul of the club. Often unfairly maligned by our own supporters, Loewe always puts in 100%.

He was offerred a fortune to join Fremantle at the end of 1996 and as it turns out, was chased by Essendon at the same time. His decision to stick with the saints very nearly saw him achieve his life ambition of winning a Grand Final with the saints.

Congratualtions Stewie, you're a true legend of the St Kilda Football Club. Let's hope for people like yourself and Burkey, that elusive premiership medallion will not turn out to be just a dream.

He did the same thing against the Roys in 1990...and that was from the boundary line!

I remember that Grendel, to make it worse I think it was just after Hudson became a skills coach (or similar) at Moorabin.

Congrats Buckets, its a joy seeing someone live up to their potential.

Never a frown with gold and brown.

Well done Stewie on 300 games this weekend. He was offered a bucket load of dosh to join Freo but was loyal and stuck to the saints. His partnership with Lockett at full-forward had them as one of the most powerful CHF/FF combinations of all times.

All you Sainters out there, will you please roar a huge "STEWIE" for me.
Only wish I could be there.
