How is that relevant? So pick 6 is jinxed or something? What pox logic is that? Pick 6 is the chance to get the 6th best rated youngster in the land. If you muck it up you muck it up but the chance to do that is much bigger than trading for someone already 5 years into their career.
WHO CARES IF PICK 6 HASNT WORKED FOR OTHERS? THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PICK JINX
I will type more slowly.
What I am trying to say is that from pick 6 on the strike of selecting a gun player is not great and as such if u can get a quality 22 year old mid then it must be considered.

After a comment like that you have no idea about football and should be banned on bigfooty

Mc Veigh ring any bells ?Who's your best?? Not Jobe Watson...he's a spud
Mc Veigh ring any bells ?
Mc Veigh ring any bells ?
Fair enough but they are not far apart. Opposition teams generally tag Stanton ahead of McVeigh.

What bullshit, Stanton hasn't been shopped around at all...The bumbers are shopping Stanton around I reckon this guy is an elite mid who was slightly down on output this year. At Carlton he would run free and with a massive engine and probably 170 + games left in him I think he would be a great get.

Yes maybe true but you surely have to give credit were its due Mc veigh isnt a superstar but is a very good playerPretty easy to run off the oppositions best midfielder and go kick chasing. God, even I could do that.

U do realise that pick 6 isn't all that flash hot ... apart from Salopek the rest stink so if history is any guide then I have a feeling we need to consider Essendons number 1 mid who is only 22.

Just in regards to the OP... People always complain about the players who 'run free' in every team. The outside receiver types always cop flack round here on BF. Stevens and Houlihan to name a couple from Carlton. Travis Johnstone cops it, as does Stanton at times. The last thing i want to hear is people complaining about another 'soft' outside player at Carlton, its bad enough as it is.
Every team needs their 'soft' running players because if everyone dived onto the hard ball we'd have no one to give it to.
That's all well and good if the player can consistently hit targets. Stanton has to be one of the most inconsistent kicks in the league and there is no doubting that. One game he's on and hitting people lace out, the next he couldn't hit a barn door if he was standing right in front of it. His decision marking isn't that flash either.
Give credit where credits due though, he does seem to be one hell of a hard worker, gets plenty of the ball but he has plenty of question marks over him in my view.

I think you guys are over rating what you can get for pick #6. If you have a look at the players that have been chosen at #6 since 1998 there is only one player who is comparable to Stanton and thats Salopek.
Since 1998 the number 6 pick has been
1998-Murray Vance (5 career games for Carlton!!!!)
1999-Damian Cupido
2000-Dylan Smith
2001-Ashley Sampi
2002-Steven Salopek
2003-Kepler Bradley
2004-Tom Williams
2005-Beau Dowler
2006-Mitch Thorp
2007-David Myers
I would rather have a guaranteed gun than take a punt on someone who could turn out to be a bum like Damian Cupido.
Why would Stanton get a heavy tag if he wasnt a gun?? He averaged 22 possessions this year and kicked 18 goals - that is a good season in anyone's language.
Its at least worth considering.
Subby remember your a sick puppy these things dont get to you okI just couldn't stand being on BF if we had another 'soft' player at the club. The amount of whinging aobut Stevens and Houlihan is enough to send you stupid. I have no problems with receiver type players personally and know that every team needs them.
