Oh no, he had a bad game, got beaten by a top class (debatable) tagger in Jackson. Can't wait to read a thread in a fortnight when everyone is toasting him again.

We need a collingwood supporter in here for a bit of sanity.

Clearly a player who's confidence is shot.

I wonder why?

What's wrong with that?

Credit where it's due if he starts playing well he will get praised simple as that.

ryder v stanton?
at the moment, that would be handbags at 20 paces.
both need a very large cup of cement to help harden the f up, and get on with fulfilling the potential they both have.
Nah, Ryder vs. Someone else (i presume) [on BB they said it was Edwards/Mcleod like]

Stanton's confidence is just shot from the fan treatment.

Sorry, but this isn't true.

I'm not trying to be biased against Stanton, it's just that he makes these mistakes every week and it cancels out some of the good work he does in games.
So basically, you agree that he makes few faults.

Didn't watch the game properly tonight, only watched it in patches; so I can't comment a heap on Stanton's performance. I do know though that he has at least had 3 great games this season, unlike none other than P Ryder. He has disappointed me more-so this season, but has somehow dodged the spot-light. Personally, if Stanton heads off at the end of the season I don't blame him. Many fans have been disrespectful towards him and it isn't his fault at all we expect him to be the next J Hird.

Many fans have been disrespectful towards him and it isn't his fault at all we expect him to be the next J Hird.

I don't disagree that many have been disrespectful (which I hate too, and is very disappointing from supporters), but who are these people expecting him to be the next hird?

to me, that excuse is BS - no-one at all is expecting that from him, they just want him to play to his potential and stop making so many obvious clangers that a player of his experience should be far beyond at this stage of his career.

He had a shocker tonight, but I feel for the bloke he is human after all and after being jeered his confidence must be at its lowest point ever. I rate the guy as a very much required player and hope he can bounce back from this.

Im not sure if dropping him will shatter his condidence even more but it might help just to take the massive attention of him to got back to the ressies, but it would be even better if he just comes back next week and has a good game.

Cheers Runk!

True about Davey. Doesn't do much. Struggles to hold a mark, struggles holding tackles, doesn't kick many goals.

Tough gig being the Sub.. come on with all that energy and try and stamp yourself. Having said that he was poor. Also hate the fact we use him as a lead up forward and at one stage he was playing CHF.. clearly is going to be beaten in a marking contest. Shortest bloke in the field.. it ugly watching them kick it on top of his head all the time.. should kick it over the top and let him run on to it..

ahahaha, OH BOY. I am speechless, lost for words with how bad this game was.

Can't wait for the ultra-fanboys to come in with a few select stats that prove that Stanton had a ripper game, is undroppable, and then claim that we should all get off his back.

GIVE ME A BREAK. How can you accept this type of performance? So unbelievably soft. Would have preffered to have played with one less player in the starting lineup.

If you have a look at his efficiency percentages and average number of disposals from last season, it stacked up with some of the best midfielders going around. I think BtG posted these numbers up about a fortnight ago. He copped a lot of shit last season as well at the games which was uncalled for. If you actually go regularly to games, you get the gist of who the fans like/dislike fairly quickly into the match and he was one who wasn't particularly liked.

Well said. The whole team struggles kicking to a leading player. Always goes over the players head.

Probably two certainties about tonight.

1) A Stanton Roast thread.

2) BTG will find a way to get Stanton into his votes.

Stanton was poor tonight but he was poorer on Anzac Day.

So that we are looking at stats:
He had 30 Disposals.. Consisting of 16K, 14H. Kicked no score himself and had 0 assists. Did kick it inside 50 4 times however 0 of these entries resulted in direct scoring opportunities. He had 7 Contested possessions and 11 Uncontested and only marked the ball twice. His disposals were 63% effective and he had 4 Clangers. Only 4 clearances despite spending 70%+ time on the ball. No matter how you slice it.. that is one ugly game of footy for an experienced leader of the club especially considering the absence of Watson etc that meant we really needed him to take that step up.

I think you misunderstand my point - i'm not disagreeing that he's more valuable than some of our peanut supporters think (ie the ones that bronx cheer him).

my point is that quite often the 'stanton-apologists' will go on about how we're all expecting him to be the next hird because he happens to wear the #5 on his back, which I think is a rubbish excuse.
the number he wears means nothing, it's what he does (or doesn't) as a player onfield that counts.

He had 14 kicks and 2 handballs.

Didn't miss the point at all. I simply stated statistically, Stanton was up there with the best mids in the comp last season but still copped a HEAP of shit at the ground and a fair bit on the forum. Consolidates the fact that many do expect Stanton to become the next J Hird, which is virtually impossible to achieve.

Agree with your last point however many of our supporters sadly think otherwise.

CORRECTED So that we are looking at stats:

Corrected.. sorry about that..
