As I said on Portia's 'Height Supremacy - Psortia's Pseudopsience Psost' thread star signs are almost certainly more important than height as pseudopsienctiffik predictors of our 2017 success. Due to having had nothing much on this morning I now have the astrological profile of our full 2016 list to compare to that of the Western Bulldogs. I'm only putting their flag-winning 22 in, because why not? Though I do have the others on their list as well if anyone wants to drill down to who they wouldn't/couldn't field in the big one.

This should probably be in our list management or trade threads but meh!

Analysis
Clearly having any Piscean players is a weakness, but bar Ryder we should be able to trim that down quickly. We're OK on a bias towards Leos. We have far too many Ariens, I'm at a loss there to know what to do unless we bundle Robbie Gray, Jasper Pittard and Tom Clurey together to trade for any one Virgo.

You have highlighted a glaring issue. We have too many pisces. They are way too nice.

Could you do a height to star sign analysis. I'd like to see how a tall Virgin stacks up against a short Leo
A picture is worth a thousand words.

"We sell forbidden objects from places men fear to tread..."

So for a bit of fun, and since this is the off-season (and this is a sufficiently esoteric thread to do it in), I thought I'd do a reading on the fortunes of Port Adelaide. It came up with an interesting spread:

25753885a77048eaf1ef8e1947661f1c.jpg

Card One (the situation) - The High Priestess. This card signifies wisdom, intuition, hidden knowledge, instinct. In relation to Port Adelaide, this is what we are trying to get back to - that instinctive play that comes from feeling and not thinking 'What could go wrong?'

Card Two (the current challenge) - Queen of Cups. This card represents emotional connection. People are too close too each other (or maybe not close enough) and it is affecting their ability to play instinctively. Issues with female companions might be adversely affecting performance. In general, the Queen of Cups signifies the bond of family, but since this is a challenge, that closeness is not a blessing, but a burden.

Card Three (the basis of the situation) - Five of Pentacles (reversed) - Upright, the Five of Pentacles is a bad card, that abandonment, loss and isolation from others. However, in the reversed position, it signifies that while this was true, the bad times are now over and things will be getting better. However, it doesn't mean it's all smooth sailing. The path chosen is the correct one, but there is still danger in backsliding so it's important to keep focused on the goal.

Card Four (the past relevant to the situation) - The Chariot. This card signifies victory and control. Combined with the High Priestess, it says that using instinct and intuition instead of logic led to big wins. Wisdom and instinctive play was the path to victory in the past, and it will be again.

Card Five (the present) - Princess (Page) of Wands (reversed) - this card basically says that a new venture (gameplan) was attempted that was unsuccessful. This was due to complexities (players not fully understanding it), obstacles (injuries/suspensions) and opposition. It can also refer to a specific individual who is either mean-spirited and aggressive, or helpless and always a victim. Someone who never has anything good to say, is always pessimistic, always brings everyone down. It's a card that says things didn't work out the way it was planned, and there are people who take great delight in telling the club all about it. You know who you are.

Card Six (the near future) - Knight of Wands - this is a card of action, of taking risks. Coupled with the Princess of Wands, it signifies that the new venture will have success, since Wand cards are all about inspiration and ideas. Those who opposed the idea will be moved on or buy in fully to it, and things will improve. The time for diplomacy and caring about whose feelings are hurt is over. It's time for taking calculated risks.

Card Seven (your power in the situation) - The Tower - this represents forced change. Stripping away the walls and defenses and exposing what is truly hidden underneath the facade. "It's only after disaster that we can be resurrected. It's only after we've lost everything that we are free to do anything." It's about shattering egos, about being brutally honest with yourself and others. Things can't continue how they have been, and they won't.

Card Eight (the effects of people around you) - Universe (or The World) - Everyone comes together, united in a common cause, and things finally pay off due to them knowing their place in the system. It's about having a deeper understanding of your role and how everything fits together - instead of being disjointed, everything fits together like the intricate cogs in a clock, running together in perfect time.

Card Nine (hopes and fears) - Eight of Swords - This card says that what is in the club's interests will be opposed by other people. It is a card that depicts imprisonment, of there appearing to be no way out. But just as Morpheus told Neo in the Matrix, "Their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is built on rules. Because of that, they can never be as strong or as fast as you can be." The adherence to traditional belief systems will actually be a curse, but who says we have to play by the 'rules'?

Card Ten (the outcome) - King of Wands - The upshot of all this is that the innovations undertaken will bear fruit. Everything will work out exactly as intended, and so long as everyone works hard to achieve the goal, success will come. Combined with the Knight of Wands, it says that word of this creativity will be spread by the media. And the Princess of Wands adds much youthful energy to any reading it joins, and with the King card present, your ideas are sure to be seen as new and revolutionary.

tl;dr - next year, the old 2014 Port Adelaide will be back new and improved, and everyone in the media is going to suck us off. The cards have spoken :)

So that beats a straight flush?

Here's some other weird stuff to pass the time. Numerology now.

Matthew Broadbent, Brendon Ah Chee, Cameron O'Shea, Sam Colquhoun - 1

Originality, individuality and will. The guys who will come up with something ridiculous - whether it's a 70m goal or a 30m handball. They do their best work on the outside, but they aren't afraid to go inside either. These guys work best as inside/outside mids or some other form of dual role (like a defensive wingman etc) - combining the originality and flair of outside run with the will of inside contested ball, but trying to pigeon-hole them as one or the other will stifle their performance. They can look really, really good...but can also really, really bad. You'll often find the performance of a 1 fluctuates wildly.

Aaron Young, Jake Neade, Logan Austin, Tom Jonas, John Butcher - 3

Creativity, self-expression and feelings. A 3 is the perfect number for a small forward, yet they are completely and utterly tied to the performance of the side around them. If the team is down, they are down. 3s run on emotion. They won't be the ones to pull the side out of the fire...but they can be the ones to create the spark. On the other hand, a creative key defender also has merit - as was seen with Austin's triple feint before delivering the ball against North Melbourne.

You know who shouldn't be a 3? A key forward.

Ollie Wines, Chad Wingard, Jarman Impey, Tom Clurey, Kane Mitchell, Will Snelling, Aidyn Johnson - 4

Discipline, organization and hard work. These guys are the grunts - the guys you can rely on to perform to a standard no matter what. They aren't mercurial with flashes of brilliance...their brilliance comes from routine, and if they can't execute that the way they would like, their performance suffers across the board. These guys will perform their given assignment to the best of their ability and hate it when they see others not doing the same thing.

Robbie Gray, Jackson Trengove, Hamish Hartlett, Matthew Lobbe, Alipate Carlile, Jack Hombsch, Dan Houston - 5

Flexibility, freedom and adventure. These guys are your creative outlets. They hate structure and do their best work in dual positions (forward/midfield, defender/midfield, forward/ruck) - which is probably why Lobbe is s**t at contested marking (a byproduct of structure) and Trengove performed much better in the ruck than he ever has as a defender. Hartlett too, doesn't have the mental capacity to work as a defender all the time - he needs to be in the midfield in the way that Gray does (Gray has bursts up forward to give him a mental 'reset' from the grind of the midfield).

Sam Gray, Karl Amon - 6

Responsibility, commitment and care taking. These are the guys you want as your back-up players. The guys who will come in and perform a role, because they know they are there to do a job and not be the star.

Brad Ebert, Jasper Pittard, Jared Polec, Patrick Ryder, Jesse Palmer - 7

Analysis, introspection and detachment. Remember when Paul Roos said that Pittard would make a great coach? This is why. All these guys are great at seeing the big picture and not letting emotions get the better of them. Of course, that can give them the appearance of being lazy or laconic at times, and they can fall into the trap of getting too caught up in themselves if they are playing poorly to do the team thing. The fact that he is a 7 is why Polec needs to be ridden hard quite a bit, and why Pittard got the same treatment early on from Hinkley.

By the by, Hinkley is also a 7.

Travis Boak, Justin Westhoff, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Matthew White, Jimmy Toumpas, Dougal Howard - 8

Power, leadership and success. When someone jokingly said that Justin Westhoff should be made captain to do the media stuff while Travis can simply concentrate on leading the side on game day, it actually had some merit from a numerology perspective. These guys are born leaders - they push themselves and everyone around them to perform and be the best they can be...but they also have a tendency to sit back and not be as aggressive as they should be if they don't have the license to say 'follow me', preferring to push from behind instead of leading from the front.

Angus Monfries, Riley Bonner, Nathan Krakouer, Jay Schulz, Cameron Hewett - 9

Idealism, perfection, group-oriented. The quintessential 'club man'. The guy who will do anything for his teammates, who demands perfection of himself and others. Keith Thomas is also a 9.

Charlie Dixon, Paul Stewart - 33

A 33 combines both the best attributes of both a 6 (responsibility, commitment, care taking) with a double helping of a 3 (creativity, self-expression and feelings). Basically, if they feed off and give energy to those around them, but they also display the adherence to game plan and team care that is vital.

What is interesting to me is that we don't have any 2s on our list at all. A 2 is good at cooperation, finesse and diplomacy. The peacekeepers. You need 2s in a side filled with so many egos.

Do you know who is an 11, which is like a supercharged version of a 2? Cameron Hitchcock - a player that all the players loved. Guess when we turned to s**t? When we delisted Hitchcock at the end of the 2014 season.

Coincidence? I think not.

Guess who is an 11 in this years draft? Tim Taranto. You wanna win the flag, numerology says that's who you pick if he's available at Pick 9. He doesn't even have to play. But *, can he play.

P.S - Will Brodie and Jack Scrimshaw are 4s. Venables, Ainsworth and SPS are 3s. Bowes, Powell-Pepper and Scharenberg are 9s. McGrath is an 8. Parfitt is a 44/8 (get him as well).

Here's some other weird stuff to pass the time. Numerology now .....
We're hoofing into the team analysis now. But need to compare to something like this year's premiers, or perhaps a recent Hawks' team. Or even our 2004 team.
