Following the release of Section 31, Rolling Stone rates all 14 Trek movies. Hard to argue with the general gist of this one, I'd flip Nemesis and Section 31 as I didn't think it was all bad (hell, I have Insurrection below it), and First Contact above Undiscovered Country (I may have First Contact first after a recent cinematic rewatch but happy to accept Wrath of Khan at one). My only major change is I don't rate either of JJ Abrams' Trek films, I'd have the 2009 reboot way lower.

I didn't mind S31, kinda surprised how much hate it's gotten.
It's not BAD... it's just rather pointless and naff. It really is just an over-long episode, with characters you don't know or care about. There's just no reason to recommend watching it.

Yeah it only really works if they do a show off the back of it (well aware it was originally a show compressed into a movie) but as a standalone it's a bit nothing.

Glad some people like it, hope it doesn't spook them from doing similar streaming movies. But the tone feels way off, playing like a Mission Impossible movie, then a slapstick odd squad movie, then an all out action finale punch-on movie. Just never clicked with me. I can see how it might be fun but I just got a little bored.

Clearly hoping to do more films, especially based off that cameo at the end, but not convinced it will after the reception it's received. But who knows, maybe lots of people watched it regardless, the numbers are high, and they do a second movie that's hopefully better.

Includes children and civilian spouses. Actual crew would be 700-800.
Still seems like a shit load of people not doing much. The bridge team are the ones responding to every coarse of action that’s required. 1 engineer, 1 teleportation dude and 1 doctor. Not even a nurse?

Must be hundreds of workers with mops cleaning those busy corridors, and cleaning up after Picard’s orgy’s on the holodecks.

Have you watched Lower Decks?

They’re all in the Jeffries tubes.

Minimal crew is about 100 - then you have maintenance and shifts because they operate 24/7. You dont even need a person on the ship as the holo doc has done it before. Voyager had 152 crew total.

Was never into Star Trek much but I love sci-fi so thought I should give it a go. I watched a season or so of the Original Series, it's pretty dated but still ok will revisit at some point.

Binged TNG over a few months last year and loved it, some strings of episodes were a bit weak but overall was great.

Halfway through DS9 now and I think it even eclipses TNG, its a really great show. Took a little bit to get going but halfway through s4 I've been watching at least one episode almost daily.

Will continue with Voyager next.

With Star Trek leaving Netflix on Jan 8th will it be picked up by another streaming service? If not will have to go back to alternative means of accessing it.

Imagine it would be exclusive to Paramount+ where it's been for the last few years. That's where I watched them.

Anyone watching Academy? Really enjoyed the first few eps. Nice and light.

First couple of episodes were great, wasn't a fan of the 3rd episode though.

Jek'Kralija is the star of the show IMO.

Was away when the first two episodes dropped, will jump in soon. I'm aware it's intended for a younger audience so will bear that in mind when watching.
I dunno if it's really for younger audiences too much, it's a similar humour to SNW maybe with a touch of Lower Decks. It's not super serious yet so I guess in that sense it's more for teens, I dunno.

Academy is incredibly frustrating. It's alternating between some solid attempts at trek and extremely poor writing where 90% of the characters emotionally devolve and act like morons.

I think you can make a show aimed at younger viewers and still make the writing mature enough that's accessible to everyone (Star Wars animated shows/Skeleton Crew, Star Trek Prodigy)

I worry this show is trying to force a lot and the expense of good storytelling in the hope of not having the plug pulled.

Leaning heavily on nostalgia (especially the most recent episode) shows you don't have much faith in writing original stories.

Hope it gets better but a couple of real stinkers so far.

I've just finished the first two episodes, thought they were both very strong, the first with plenty of action, the second with plenty of 'Star Trek values'. Can't say I'm too invested in many of the characters yet, they're not bad as such, just haven't grabbed me yet. But this could change over time.
