It's just been announced that Jack Thompson will be playing a farmer in Epiosde 2. Yes, that's right. The Bank of Melbourne's own Jack Thompson. His title, is "a modest farmer"

Graeme Blundell will play Queen Amidalas Dad.

"Nudge" from 'Hey Dad' (Christopher Truswell) will be lending his voice to several characters.

The last time I heard from Nudge, he was working as the MC in a strip joint in Sydney.

And Jimmy Smits (from NYPD BLUE) will be playing Bail Organa. For those that don't know, Bail Organa is Princess Leia's foster Dad, and he dies when Alderaan explodes in the original Star Wars.

LoL I can see it now.. Nudge the Sith running into a room yodeling "Hey Mr Kelly" n dropping his light sabre handing Obi Wan victory

I read an interesting article at TheStandard.com about the marketing for Ep.1 compared to the original Star Wars.

Ep.1 was marketed with media hype to sell a glut of merchandise.

Star Wars was a ground-breaker in merchandising, with shortages of many items caused by a genuine market for the stuff.

Star Wars fans pulled the scarce merchandise off the shelves. Ep. 1 merchandise had to be pushed off by retailers into the hands of blase consumers.

Its just continuing the long line of Aussies in the StarWars movies. Very interesting to note the 'SpyForce' connection now of Peter Sumner and Jack Thompson. Also dont forget George Mallabys appearance in the original film.

I love that UDL ad! Didn't recognise him as Nudge though.

Have any of you seen the new AFL finals ad? (It finishes with "It's been a warm up..") I think it's great.

BTW/ I've never got the Star Wars thing, but how does a farmer fit into a story set in space involving armies of good and bad robot things?

I though Episode 1 was fantastic.

I loved the "Duel of the fates" score from John Williams.

It wsn't as good as The Empire Strikes Back, but it was "as" good as the original, and MILES better than Return of the Jedi. Return of the Jedi wasn't that good. Very overrated.

Jack Thompson will only have a small role (probably one line) so don't concern yourself too much.

People were expecting so much from Episode 1 that the "tall poppy syndrome" was bound to hit sooner or later. I loved it from start to finish. It was a huge improvement from the previous Star Wars movie, Return of the Jedi in 1983.

The only thing I would have changed is I would have made the young Anakin more "sad" as a slave. Think about it. He's supposed to be a slave, yet he's got a perfect hair cut, and he's even got his own droid ! I'd like to see him with his hair ruffled, with dirt on his face, and being mistreated by Watto.

That could also explain his disturbed childhood. Other than that, I wouldn't have changed a thing. It was well paced, a magnificent soundtrack (as usual), and a great climax.

We will see the characters develop in Ep:2, just like in Empire Strikes back.

The Ewoks wrecked Return of the Jedi
Jar Jar Binks wrecked The Phantom Menace

BTW: It doesn't matter who the poxy rebels are in the films, the "star" of the first three films was the Empire, and the sooner they make their appearance the better Episodes 2 & 3 will be.

The only genuinely convincing character in Episode 1 was Palpatine!

Sorry Dan24

I adore Star Wars too but there is no getting away from the fact that the Phantom Menace was a terrible movie.

Wooden acting, flat script, so-so SFX, terrible casting, went on too long.

The reason why the original Star Wars was such a huge success was that not only did the whole idea of an Epic SciFi action adventure appeal but that the producers (20th C Fox and Lucasfilm) actually made a great film that not only dazzled with its visual effects but the film had drama, pathos and humour all encapsulated in a tight script that was brilliantly acted (especially Harrison Ford) and directed with real skill.

Star Wars exuded quality and class in every scene, in every word of dialogue. If the original Star Wars was as badly made as the Phantom Menace, then it would have sunk without a trace (like Battlestar Gallactica for example)

In comparison the Phantom Menace was just another sloppily-made big budget Hollywood howler.

I love star wars and i loved the phantom menace but BSA is right it was bad compared to what it could have been. But i am looking forward to episode 2 and 3 cos i think they will be much better. Did you guys see that Hayden Christenson guy cast as Anakin he looks pretty cool but can he act. Anyway bring on naked amidala i say hehehh
