No, I'm not, but thanks for taking on both sides of the debate

Nature reacts to changes, it ebbs and flows, and it requires a balanced ecosystem. No God required. But sure, it doesn't create Super-Dogs. That's why Star Wars is not a nature documentary ;)
And yet you cite nature to justify the force giving Rey powers? Just not quite seeing the comparison..

I should say, I'm not a huge fan of this idea, but Lucas started it with the Force creating Anakin. If anything, the Force just being a part of nature that adapts to changes is taking it a step back from what was presented in TPM.

My entire discussion was around how illogical having the Force behave in this way is, particularly given what has come before.
Anakin is precedence to some degree to Rey. Also we haven't officially gotten answer for Rey's lineage so that could reel back the absurdity. Keep in mind "the force" had been getting more and more ridiculous and expanded on from it's early beginnings, with iteration of movie, TV series, and lore in books/comics.

It's also a bit premature for people to say how the Force 'acts'. The old EU is dead, as long as it doesn't contradict what has come before, Disney can change exactly how the Force works.

The sequel trilogy (and Disney in general) have done their utmost to distance themselves from what Lucas did in the prequels as much as possible. So I don’t think this is something they are bound by.

I did however like the concept that it was Plagueis himself that created Anakin (was teased slightly in the opera scene of ROTS). Unfortunately, nothing more came of this to confirm either way.

I like the idea of a Sith that didn't start as a Jedi. What could a real Sith accomplish by not being afraid to tap in to the full force?

Sent from mTalk
As awful as Fate of the Jedi was, the Sith Tribe stories that set up those books were absolutely amazing, and delve a bit into what you're talking about here.

Fate of the Jedi? Why on earth are you reading them now of all times?

I'm re-reading NJO. You'd actually be surprised at how well it syncs to ideas in the sequels.
I sort of lost interest in the long-form EU after the Legacy (?) series. But I was running short on books, they were cheaper now, so I picked them up bit by bit. Started the first a couple of months back and been alternating them with other books. Think I have two-and-a-half to go.

Fair enough. At the time I didn't dislike them but now don't think I could bother.

Have you read the Tribe of the Sith tie in short stories? Much, much, MUCH better. Some of the best of the EU. Just won't feel heaps like Star Wars. Explores the concept of a Sirh society very well though.

Yes, read that before I began the series. Can imagine reading the series without the context might make the bad guys a little less convincing as characters.

good point someone made....this movie has to be a two-part movie (running over 4 hrs) because there are 8 new characters, including tying in the PT and OT into this finale, so to wrap it all up and flesh out 8 new characters PLUS the existing ST characters, it cant do so inside one 2 hour movie. I like the idea tho of two for the price of one to wrap this up.

Going into the concept of Reylo, with leaked scenes and rumors. Scene in IX where there's a fire in the background from a battle or something, and Rey and Kylo have a touching moment, moving in to kiss but don't. Kylo puts his hand on her shoulder, she kisses her hand, and that sort of thing, like a heart-warming moment. People slamming this scene or Reylo like too much like Twilight the movie. Others liking it because Reylo is "supposed" to be an Anakin-Padme of the ST

Much interest in IX with the curiosity factor of just how JJ Abrams is going to tie in the PT OT and the ST all together. Scene described of Rey talking to Luke Force Ghost as he trains and instructs her how to build a lightsaber, and then the voice/force-ghost of Obi Wan talks to Luke, instructing him about Rey etc. Parallels drawn to the Yoda talking to Obi-Wan about Luke in the OT scene.

Potential spoilers regarding Act 1 in this movie, how it begins. Rumor/plot-leaks come from unnamed extras who worked in a few scenes.

Guerilla militia going in a bunker on the Battu world, trying to keep under the radar of the First Order, amazing architecture around, real visual treat, scene involving Poe Finn and Chewbacca and this militia group, meeting up with Hux in secret, one of the new characters is a woman, playing a Vera Calrissian, daughter of, discussing a recent skirmish, there's odds about friends lost in battle or something, Vera mentions they found something important at the cost of lives lost. Enters a horse riding in accompanied by children with masks on, a body tied to the horse, head bagged...it's Hux captured.

More discussion about how Abrams is trying to tie all the trilogies together. Connections between ROTS and IX talked about, re-using set designs and sound effects and music from ROTS, also re-scored version of Duel of Fates, re-visiting worlds like Mustafa, Naboo, Coruscant, and specific sets used from the Prequels. Gonna be a lot of mimicking scenes from the PT like TFA/TLJ mimicked scenes from the OT. Also, playing on the characters of the ST specifically comparing them to PT characters in callback scenes. Zeroh tho complains that things just cant be slapped together like that, there has to be reason/purpose and semblance of justification when making character/scene callbacks.

One of the leaked set designs is about Luke, Rey, Kylo in a scene where they're all together in a place like a jedi temple, ancient ruins, rey and kylo having a dispute, but Luke steps in to act as the middle-man between them, apparently a unique force ghost scene, and using de-aging tech on hammill to make him younger.

Discussing how Abrams is really trying to make Kylo in IX stand apart from Kylo in VII and VIII. Scene between a young Luke in Jedi robes, ignited lightsaber, training Ben Solo with his lightsaber, on some open field, they combat each other for training purposes, Ben using his blue lightsaber and earning the right to use that blue lightsaber in the process, with a whole bunch of jedi watching the training battle....so Zeroh talks how this must be a flashback scene, before Ben turned. Zeroh talks about how flashbacks are an iffy idea. Eg, in TLJ RJ used it as more of visual of what was going on in Luke's and then Kylo's mind when re-telling a memory. Whereas Abrams intends to use a lot of actual flashbacks. But talks about how this is a cool scene still, as we've never really scene combat training sequences as part of jedi training.

Talking about Rey's path in this movie. Leaked scene detail from Ep 9...suggesting a parallel between the ROTJ barge scene, where Rey comes to the rescue of Poe and Finn from a similar type of situation, freeing them from multiple Storm Troopers as she wields her Staff-Lightsaber around, Storm Troopers flying about on wires, Rey using the force on them, lots of explosions, Rey herself flying about on wires, with Poe and Finn then managing to get their hands on blasters and a whole escape type scene goes on.

Talks about set designs involving Kylo, Lando and the character codenamed Mara, who is potentially a re-doing of the Mara EU character. Also a scene with Kylo by himself, no other characters/extras, where Kylo enters the Falcon interior, sitting at the cockpit of it, and that he steals it. Talks about Abrams really wanted that scene in TFA which was deleted from TFA of Kylo sitting reminiscing, so expanding on that in IX. Another scene with Maz Kanata and a new ship she has or something (i was distracted)....and the Mara character getting a lot of action scenes, fight scenes, including a scene where shes on top of a speeder across a terrain with a lot of rivers. Zeroh talks about how there's a lot of "new creatures" being talked about in the set designs, and people wondering it could be a whole other race or something that is neither aligned to the Resistance or the First Order.
