Movie Star Wars - Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker - Spoilers and Rumors

Yes fair enough, trailer probably not the right description.

I've also read that theory, given everyone is expecting misdirection from TLJ's trailer suggesting that Rey was to join Kylo with the clever editing of his outstretched hand. So yes, that is quite a possibility. Maybe Disney knows everyone will be suspicious, so instead they give it to you on a platter. But the liklihood of her actually turning evil in this film? Slim I would say.
I think it could be a clone.

The vision in 8 of multiple reys could be hinting that she's one of many.

That lightsabre is ******* stupid.

That one shot, demonstrates that, once again, they'll go style over substance.

It's like it's on a hinge, imagine if she's around any younglings and "oops, I slipped" second shaft just dangling in the breeze.

Actually, lightsabre copter, parry a thrust and headbutt win all the things, which is why she practices jumping over a speeding vehicle.

Hmmm...

Possibly a clone...

Possibly a massive abandoned fleet...

This is sounding like Tim Zahn - Dark Force Rising....
sure does...

The dying Empire's most cunning and ruthless warlord—Grand Admiral Thrawn—has taken command of the remnants of the Imperial fleet and launched a massive campaign aimed at the New Republic's destruction. Meanwhile, Han and Lando Calrissian race against time to find proof of treason inside the highest Republic Council—only to discover instead a ghostly fleet of warships that could bring doom to their friends and victory to their enemies.

Yet most dangerous of all is a new Dark Jedi, risen from the ashes of a shrouded past, consumed by bitterness… and scheming to corrupt Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side.

carrie russell confirmed in an interview that the character she plays is an old friend of poe dameron's.
she's a bounty hunter/smuggler, but neither a villain, nor a hero, but an anti-hero.
all takes place on kimiji, the ice-snow planet.
rey learns a bit about her origins there, and c3po gets lost in a droid factory like in the PT, and he gets damaged just like in the PT, and an old emperial chip gets implanted in him, which uploads a ton of info about the old empire and the origins of the first order into his memory bank, and that's when we see his red eyes.
after this adventure there, the crew all meet up the bounty hunter, and they make a get away together or something.

actually, that is what is going to happen.

the remnants of the empire got trapped in the unknown regions, or were deliberately in hiding there....all those old OT-era star destroyers are theirs.

one of palpatines contigency plans before the Death Star 2 was destroyed was developing a Death Star 3, in case 2 got blown up like 1.

the remnants of the empire however ended up incorporating the Death Star 3's laser weaponry into all their individual star destroyers.

the death star 3 had red beam, instead of green (2), and that's why we see a red beam destroying the surface of kimiji in the trailer as rey, bliss, and gang all make a getaway before the planet gets smoked -- a la Rogue One.

the old empire makes a return, to lay claim to the galaxy. the first order and the resistance apparently team up to try to stop them at the end.

Sounds feasible.

Rey/Kylo battle is giving me Kenobi/Anakin Mustafar vibes.

I don't think we'll be getting anything that redeems the trilogy here. Predicting a pretty pedestrian Disney SW film, with a few hidden nostalgic moments we won't know till it's out, and HEAPS of callbacks to all the trilogies. But that's about it.

7 and a half hours just to get to Rey vs Kylo III where Rey is up 2-0. Bravo Disney.

agreed.
it's going to be a cluster* of nostalgia callbacks
and lots of rey-vs-kylo fighting but no one cares about them fighting, they've fought so often now, and even had a spark of romance, it's boring, there's nothing left to the imagination with them.

unlike say how luke vs vader came about, we saw vader being ever so bad and intimidating and destroying all in his path, across a whole movie, and then when the poor orphan boy with big dreams wanted to be a jedi, he had to face vader, even had that dagobah cave scene to make it even more scarier for him to go up against this shadowy figure who was unstoppable.

then we saw luke get mutilated by him in ep5, and then ep6 pretty much went the whole film before they finally met in a return fight RIGHT AT THE END.

but in the ST, kylo's shadowyness disappeared when he took off his mask early in ep7, and rey had a slight moment in the forest against him, where he schooled her, but she still went unscathed, and warded him off, and then she kicked his ass at the end of 7. so already they ended up meeting each other at least three times in the first movie....and then in ep8 RJ erred by having them both constantly in contact with each other, spending so much time together, romantically too, and indeed, they ended up fighting TOGETHER against snoke's guards, so there's no tension or fear or suspense.

now we're going to get overloaded again with more rey and kylo fights. there's zero suspense created in the whole thing.

Unlike how Luke vs Vader came about. We spent the whole first OT movie seeing Vader being ever so bad and intimidating and destroying all in his path. Only in the 2nd OT movie did Luke have to face Vader towards the end of that movie. Where he got mutilated by him. Even the Dagobah cave scene to make it even scarier for him to face Vader, this shadowy evil figure.

And then in the third OT movie, it wasn't until right at the very end of the movie before Luke met Vader again, under even more duress/scariness involved having been brought before the even shadowier figure of the Emperor.

But in the ST, Kylo's shadowiness disappeared when he took off his mask early in the movie when he first met Rey. Even then Rey resisted his force powers, rendering him even less fearsome. Still in the first ST movie, Rey had a slight moment in the forest against him, where he schooled her, but she still went unscathed, and warded him off. And for a third time in the first ST movie they met again at the end where she beat him up.

So already they ended up meeting each other at least three times in the first movie....and then in the second ST movie RJ erred by having them both constantly in contact with each other, romantically too, and indeed, they ended up fighting TOGETHER against Snoke's guards. So there's no tension or fear or suspense, no test of courage, no rights of passage there for the poor orphan hero taking the journey toward being a Jedi and facing a far more powerful and shadowy villain.

And now, in the third ST movie, we're going to get overloaded with Rey vs Kylo fights thruout the movie, when there's no drama really behind it all.

Original era Star Destroyers back again eh?

#letthepastdie

Disney: let the past die. Move on. There are infinite stories to tell in this large Star Wars galaxy.

Also Disney: here’s Qui-Gonn, Obi-Wan, young Anakin, Darth Maul, Padme, young Han, young Leia, young Luke and Darth Vader.

Oh and we also have plenty of stormtroopers, homages to OT scenes, Lando is back, lots of the Falcon, Han’s dice, medals from ANH, dual ended lightsabers, OT star destroyers, and yeah the Death Star 2 as well.

And also, Palpatine is back too.

that obviously was the plan, but then TLJ backlash occurred and they no doubt heard and decided to "course correct" as Iger admitted.

To be fair, 'let the past die' is RJ, then Lucasfilm, then lastly Disney. JJ was all in on nostalgia.

That said, moving on doesn't require the abandonment of all references. You can still use popular motifs because it's still a Star Wars movie. What matters is that at the end, the story has moved on beyond the Skywalkers, Rebels/Empire etc. TROS could reference a million things from both previous trilogies, but if the end result is that the entire story is closed off, then mission accomplished.

Yes agreed with that, I was more so just taking the piss a bit at the inconsistency of the messages we've been hearing. I genuinely agree the concept is to move on from the old tropes, however they havent been able to deliver this as yet with some uninteresting new characters who have supposedly been pased the torch. Hence the heavy reliance on the callbacks and OT characters to steer this through.
