Why would u go out and market one of your leading characters and villians in Star Wars only to kill him off after one movie IE Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace. This is just plain stupid move on George Lucas part if you ask me. In case your wondering the Sith Lord who fights Obi-Wan and Anakin at the ending is Darth Tyranus played by Christopher Lee. Can't wait for that. Some of Lee's horror movies in the past with Vincent Price are legendary. Still cut they killed Jango however.
Oh and in case you wanted to know, all the Sith Lords are named Darth in honor of Darth Bane, the Sith who trained Darth Sidious (Palpatine)

The idea is to make as many characters as possible - more toys to market.

Christopher Lee? Are you serious? He may be good at the evil bit (he's played Dracula on film more than any other person) but he is a freakin' Gomer! He's like 80 years old.

If there is only one Sith Lord and one Sith Student, where the hell does this geriatric gomer Lee come in?

The Sith Lord Palpatine Ian McDiarmid, is like 55 years old therebouts. Ray Park (Darth Maul) is just under 30. Who's teaching whom?

If Yoda had reservations about being able to teach Anakin because he is too young (I suspect rather it was because he was an annoying child & terrible actor) then why teach a gomer like Lee after Maul is dead?

If you want to be upset by a one appearance death, be pissed at the loss of Maul. Other than Liea in the slave-girl costume, Maul was the coolest thing to ever happen in any of these films. Peace,

This is rubbish. Logically in a fictional universe consisting of thousands of planets and species there will be many and varied characters. What do you want? No alien species and or minor characters at all? Jango Fett is in the movie to link Boba Fett (his son) with the original trilogy. Not only this, he plays an important role in the plot by being the human who the clones are made from. Lucas is a billionaire - he doesn't need the money. He could easily retire. He is making the movies to complete his saga.

It's not all about creating a cool looking eveil dude like Darth Maul. it's about picking a character who advances the story. Christopher Lee is exceptional at playin evil characters, and Darth Tyrannus' age is irrelevant - as you will see when you watch the film. Darth Maul was about "looking cool." Tyrannus will be about "acting and saying" cool - not looking good like Maul.

Christopher Lee's character is a Jedi who left the order many years ago. He is referred to as one of the "lost 20" in the move apparently. He is already a supposed master of the force.

Well Ok Dan. I'll go with that.

However, I dare the billionaire Lucas (or a lot of other studios) to make a film someday without using the "Toys R Us" strategy.

Looking cool is what 'Star Wars' is all about. I don't see blind people lining up around the block to get the audio-book version.

I'm OK with Christopher Lee if his character is developed along the lines which you've suggested. I was only asking. Now, I'm going to back up slowly (no sudden moves) and walk out. Put the lightsabre down, that's it, nice and easy. You may return to what you were doing before. ;)

Peace,

PS Thanks for the info. I'll share it with some of the Star Wars geeks...err enthusiasts that I know. :D
