Maybe one day someone can go back over JJ's movies and replace the old style TIEs with Interceptors, X-Wing design evolves but TIEs go backwards?????
TIEs aren't the de-volved form of Interceptors, they're different classes. Interceptors are to TIEs as A-Wings are to X-Wings.

For those complining about Lucas edits, have you guys heard of the Star Wars Revisited editions? A bloke on the net who has re-edited ANH pretty decently - he goes a bit far, and has admitted he'll scale it back for ESB - but he has fixed up a lot of Lucas's issues, restored a lot of stuff that didn't need to be altered, and all-up makes the movie much more watchable than what Lucas has made it. Kind of sad that an 'amateur' - I use that cautiously as his cut is brilliant - can do better than Lucas.

If you're curious, look it up. I'm fairly sure his ESB is meant to be out soon.
Peter Mayhew Comments on Revisited

I asked Peter Mayhew, who’s new to Twitter, if he had seen A New Hope Revisited and that Chewie got a medal at the end. He responded:

Another cool thing is that we have a picture of Mayhew receiving his copy!

This was posted on the OriginalTrilogy Forums in 2010 with this caption:

“I presented Adywan’s Star Wars Revisited to Peter Mayhew back in 2008 at a convention in Birmingham, Alabama. I told him that Chewie gets a medal in it. He said it was about time!”

Haha lol.

This is a very good analysis of the official trailer by a couple of guys, done in late October. Many new observations in this that everyone else has not even noticed.

For instance, the line "who are you? - no one" is a rip off from a british movie.

Here's something I've noticed that no one else has.

In the trailers, you see Luke touching R2-D2 with his robotic hand. The scenery is night-time, burning embers in the air. The SAME scenery that you see the Kylo Ren, Stormtroopers, and Captain Phasma in when they're razing a village. It seems like Luke is there during or just after that whole thing goes down. And that razing scene apparently happens early in the movie, going by all the rumors. But it also could seem like it's around mid-way of the movie...to have so many main characters around (kylo, luke, phasma, r2d2) in the same scene.

No guarantee that's Luke.

No Interceptors were the response to the X-Wings superiority at the Battle of Yavin, they took some of what they learned from the Vader's TIE Advanced (upgrades to power-plant, weapons and engines, smaller profile) and applied it to the standard TIE fighter, the Interceptors were the replacement model that was being phased in across the fleet.

The Empire had even more advanced fighters that were available for use by their elite units, TIE Avengers (production model of Vaders TIE advanced) & TIE Defenders.

If it's early in the film, imo that's the first actual shot of Luke in the movie. We wont be waiting till end of the movie to first see him as per rumor. Instead, something like....the stormtroopers, kylo, and phasma, under the rule of Hux, raze that village, and luke goes there in the aftermath, a great disturbance in the force, realizes there's "a new threat", and thus goes into hiding.

If it's Luke then prosthetic hands have gotten worse in the 30 years since the original trilogy because the Rebels were able to outfit him with one that looked exactly like a normal hand.

Or he hasn't repaired it since that hand was what made him realise he was turning into Vader?

Show me in the movies where they discuss the in depth model numbers and modifications of tie fighters.

Maybe a scene of Admiral Thrawn ordering some new Ties

Im not interested in non cannon EU stuff

Nice.

People who are so narrow minded lose a lot of the depth of the story.

They were being phased in more after yavin for sure, and absolutely they were an "upgrade" on ties, but a-wings were phased in in a similar way and were seen as an upgrade on x-wings due to increased speed. X-wings and ties still continued to be used because they were so reliable and cheap respectively.

In the canon part of the wiki 20% of all TIEs in the fleet were Interceptors by the Battle of Endor.
