Then how come it flows through better than TFA when compared to the other films in the central saga?

Little involvement from Lucas is better than none in those areas of production.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Screen wipes. Not difficult. Also no need for fly by cams outside of action sequences.
Pretty sure George pioneered the fly by camera in film making.

What bugged me is how it looked in the sky from the rebel base. That was totally ridiculous!!!!

Planets blowing up in another system would be totally invisible even to our best telescopes. Even if the base was in the Hosnian system itself you would be struggle to notice the event with the naked eye at night.
I tend to agree. This is another thing that was just a little too 'convenient', that they just happened to be within a close enough system to visibly see the destruction from their planet.

When I watched it the second time, I too noticed at how little people seemed to care that the new republic had supposedly been wiped out.

It opens the website you linked to just as my original link on here did.

TBH, none of that sounds attractive to Star Wars. I love the was Lucas presented every film. Nothing wrong with the camera work and editing.

What we need is someone able to craft an environment, a setting, a story, with feeling and atmosphere, and the well known character and writing issues Lucas didn't do well.
These guys are not stupid and they have a -lot- of people around them who are not stupid. It will be authentically Star Wars.

I'd say Hamill will be getting the best payday of his life, without him they're stuffed.
True but Hamill can't afford to pass on the roll and Disney knows this, Ford can because he already is a multimillionaire with many other jobs to choose from plus the Indiana Jones royalties. Disney will agree to whatever he wants so that they can keep him happy for the future Indiana Jones sequel/reboot films. Lucas sold more than just Star Wars to Disney.

That original script was all over the show.
All original scripts are. The whole thing was much, much darker and much less cuddly Ewok.

Soon as there was no Luke in the poster and trailers I knew it was going to be a search for him and that Han was going to die. That is what is supposed to have happened in ROTJ and JJ is a massive fanboi.

In many ways I think it is more authentic than RTOJ.

Darker isn't always better.
