Del Toro was easily the best part of the film

If you disagree then Santa hates you
I'm on your side.
If it comes down to who out of the two was better -- acted, a character per se -- out of DJ vs Rose; then DJ wins.

Realizing Leia could have just lifted the rocks herself kind of takes the wind out of Rey's big climactic hero moment.

Also, why didn't Leia go out there with Luke to face Kylo? You'd think if she was ever going to confront her son, at any time in this trilogy, that would have been the moment.

First she sends her hubby to sort him out, then Luke, why didn't she get involved? That's what mothers do! Whip their sons into behaving.

So I've mentioned it before and I think with a few tweaks the movie could have been much less divisive and had a far better audience reaction without substantially changing the overall narrative.

1. Adjust the results of the attack on the bridge to get rid of the Leia's Mary Poppins moment. Still have the loss of life and Leia injured but not to the ridiculous level of her surviving after being blown into space.
2. Have the casino side mission be sanctioned and remove the stupid mutiny sub plot.
3. Have Phasma sent to track the ship from the casino side mission with her on their tail in the Casino planet and providing urgency rather than having local authorities doing it. DJ was actually working for her the whole time and it was all a trap orchestrated by Hux thereby making him look more competent.
4. Have Leia take Holdo's place and have her pilot the cruiser with Holdo boarding the escape shuttle. Have Luke do his astral goodbye with Leia before she rams the first order fleet.
5. Adjust the Luke/Ben situation so that Luke going for/igniting his lightsabre is a reaction to Snoke (and not a fleeting thought of ending Ben because Dark Side). He still fells the guilt and shame for failing to notice/prevent Snoke influencing Ben until it was too late.
6. No Rey is nobody and her parents abandoned/sold her.

Agree with all of those except for 6. 6 requires too much exposition if you leave the casino planet in there and arguably doesn't strengthen the story as one of its key themes are not being defined by your bloodline and being able to achieve greatness without coming from greatness.

Also hate this idea that you don't have to be a sky walker to save the galaxy. The meaning behind the original trilogy is reduced.
Obi-Wan says the Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice throughout the galaxy for a thousand generations. Also, a true Jedi doesn't have children. Also, Luke or a Kenobi wouldn't leave Rey on Jakku. Always thought her being Palpatine or bust were the only logical choices going into TLJ.

Wanted rey / ren to join forces on the dark side.

Leia had to have an epic jedi power moment. Perhaps she should have been conscious though.
I wanted them to join forces and create a new side, one which takes jedi teachings but embraces the dark side for the greater good. This movie had so much cock teasing rather than focusing on its own actual plot.

Problem with doing that would've been - who's the villain? You could keep Luke around to try and turn Rey back to the Jedi and Resistance side, but then it would've become Luke's story which they didn't want. I guess it would've been a cool twist if Snoke turned out to be a member of a species in the unknown regions who decides to invade and attack the First Order once they felt the death of their leader.

Yes that storyline would have been sick, they could have taken it anywhere

You can see Rey still has moments of weakness despite her desire to do much good. This needs to be explored

Let's not forget Rey's parents dumped her when she was super little and she's had to scavenge to stay alive

She should ******* pissed at the world and seeking revenge if only a little bit

What we see is the do gooder Rey which isn't a deep enough dive into her character

Hopefully Episode 9 explores her a lot more

Rey got her powers way too easily

There wasn't even 1 montage

Do you know anybody who has come from terrible adversity and who is both a great person and achieved a lot? I do. Not everyone who has been dealt a poor hand is bitter and angry.

Agree a deeper dive into Rey would be good.

YES. Also, Leia is the original badarse woman who doesn't need no man! She would never let men fight her battles for her.

Even better movie on second viewing, fantastic.

Love Luke in this. This was a guy who could even see some light in Vader yet could only see darkness in Kylo, no wonder he was so concerned.

Amazing people talk of Luke being so out of character when one of the worst portrayals of that was Anakin in Lucas’ diabolical Clone series.

Was genius how they did Luke this movie.

Only criticism was Rose/Finn rubbish and Leia’s space waltz.

Terrific movie
