Stars set to return
6:31:31 PM Mon 26 February, 2007

A number of Magpie stars are set to return to the line-up for this Friday’s regional challenge clash with St Kilda at MC Labour Park, and entry for Collingwood members is FREE.

Captain Nathan Buckley, vice-captain James Clement, Josh Fraser, Simon Prestigiacomo, Dane Swan, Shane O’Bree, Tarkyn Lockyer and Paul Licuria are all likely to play against the Saints, with the match set to get underway at 4.30pm.

Given Collingwood has contested a practice match in Sydney and a pre-season cup match on the Gold Coast so far in its preparation for the 2007 season, this is a great chance for Magpies supporters in Melbourne to finally get down to the footy and watch some of the club’s biggest names in action.

An inexperienced Collingwood team went down to the Kangaroos at Carrara last Friday night, so with the addition of some of these players, the Magpies will be looking to put in a good performance against the Saints, with round one of the 2007 season against the Kangaroos on Saturday 31 March less than five weeks away.

CFC members will be able to enter the ground FREE, while ticket prices for non-members are as follows:

Regional Challenge ticketing for non-CFC members at MC Labour Park, Carlton – tickets available at the gate
Adults - $10
Concession - $5
Child (Ages 6-15) - $2
Child (Under 6) - Free
Family (2 adults, 2 children) - $20

Now when we beat the saints with our stars back, all the talk is going to be how good are we. Good to see the boys back, but never lose focus on the long season ahead!

No need to be feb champs like the blues!

What,no Rocca?
What's happened to him?
Please tell me he isn't injured or unfit?

Gee, they are playing a pretty strong side for a practise match, lets hope there no injuries, even better though I will be able to see some of the stars as i will be at the game.

Rocca's not on the injury list, so I assume they're just holding him back for some reason.

was at training & Rocca is fine, but on a modified program that will see him not drop off at rnd 12 like last year. They want him to be in fine form come end of season..

I like that idea too!! :thumbsu:

Thats good news.
I gather he will be getting a run the week after, then?

I doubt we are gonna have all those guys playing for the whole match, the emphasis will probably still be on giving the kids more game time. Last year we play alot of our stars from the word go because of the terrible 2005 where we had senior players who hadnt played a game of footy 6months +. Where as this year i think they are letting the kids have more of a kick around and easing the stars in so that come the end of the season we arent running out of puff.....well thats a theory anyway

^ Well pointed out.

Also regarding Rocca not playing - MM may want to see how the team goes about winning the game without him being on the field. Considering his fitness isn't at the same level as many other players, there will be times in the Premiership season where he will need to be rested on the bench. This would be the perfect time to figure out the structure of the team when hes not on the field.

If Rocca isnt injured and not playing pre-season then that is crazy.

1) He isnt exactly old.

2) The only way to get fitter is to play games.

Doesnt exactly fill you with confidence.

There's still two Collingwood NAB Challenge games after this one before rd 1 not to mention a Williamstown game the week before the season starts to tune up so dont go paniking. Plenty of time to get touch still.

Really? So the only way a person can become fit is to play football? ;)

what is the point in playing Rocca??

look at what happened to richo, no point playing ur big power forward so early.

last year A.Rocca came out firing and then fell away from the mid season, id much prefer a slow build which has him peaking later

I would much prefer a player fit enougth to play good football the whole season.
