The ridiculous holding the ball interpretations for starters.

The sliding below the knee rule.

Deliberate out of bounds has gone too far.

Holding the ball creates less congestion as the other option is a player being tackled and then the entire thing turning into a maul for the next 20 seconds before the umpire calls for a ball up.

Sliding below the knees happens only once or twice a match so it is hardly worth mentioning and deliberate out of bounds is designed so players at least make an attempt to keep the ball in play rather than us getting throw in after throw in after throw in.

Like i said earlier these fools have a cartoon in their heads about how the game will look and when it doesn't pan out like they will be the first clowns to complain.

It will not stop repeat entries
It will not stop congestion
It will not stop teams being s**t
It will not stop teams defending
It will not increase scoring

someone will still have a s**t season
someone will still play s**t to look at football
someone will still not be able to score

the game is not going to suddenly transform into this magical game you and your cronies have dreamt up in your heads.

6-6-6 is literally for what 2 ******* seconds, umpires declare all clear and ball gets bounced and players free to go wherever, up there for thinking mate, who the * thinks this s**t up and then thinks is a good idea.

18m square is not going to encourage risky up the ground hail marys, coaches hate turnovers and as soon as one kick in is turned over for a goal then wave goodbye to your dumb 18m square in favour of the safe kick to the pocket.
Do you and the rest of your cronies actually think players are going to set up as they do now for a 9m square and a player will kick over their heads and that team will run into open goals.....hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Of course they have. People didn't have streaming services like Netflix a few years ago. You either watched footy or you watched nothing. Now there's about a billion other things you can watch instead.

The larger square isnt meant to encourage fast breaks for quicker scoring, its designed to spread the defensive zone to make it harder for teams to lock the ball in their forward 50

I don't think there's much doubt that a big Melbourne team winning will increase overall crowds in Melbourne. In 2010 and 2011 Collingwood was a good side. In pretty much all the other years every big Melbourne team has been ordinary at best.

Hahahahahaha, your as deluded as Hocking, we will just turn it over on the second kick which is what we do and then kick it back in to Jack and Tom who will have acres of space to work into, good luck rest of the comp. :D ******* idiot bringing in rules to hinder us will only enhance us hahahahahahaha when there are no clear options guess where the safe kick goes hahahahahahahaha do you actually think players will just be allowed to run free do you, it will be easier to set up defensive zones and scoring will stay the same because backlines wont need top push up as far for a kick in, at the moment backs push up the ground leaving space in behind them, with an 18m square no need top push up as far thus reducing the space behind = reduced over the back goals.

I have thought this up in minutes, clubs have 6 months to get clued up, keep imagining what the game will look like because that's all you will have.

the fullback will now be able to reach a greater range of areas with their kick out. This will force the defensive grid to spread, reducing congestion and making it easier for sides to exit the defense. If the ball is turned over, as you suggest, the forward line will be less crowded which will allow for more scoring.

Not everything is about the tigers mate. This congestion and flooding has been getting progressivly worse for 15 years now. About time it was addressed.

Once again the AFL refuse to admit they may have got some of their tweaks, changes and interpretations wrong in the past and forge ahead with more changes to try and counter their own changes

The AFL has no integrity and no shame. They will keep changing the rules to keep increasing revenue even if it means the game has no resemblance to it's roots.

Not sure (well I know why because they are idiots) why they don't realise the only thing that will stop congestion and increase scoring is to incentivise the coaches to do so.

Otherwise every rule change gets used defensively in the first instance then offensive tactics develop to counter that - but they change the rules again before the offensive tactics can evolve.

As others have said, start winding back the rules that have contributed to the crap in the first place.

- allow the third man up to knock the ball to the outside of the congestion
- throw in/up the ball immediately without waiting for the ruck nominations

enforce the existing rules
- pay holding for a player tackled before he has possession of the ball
- pay incorrect disposal

the only rule change I can think of that might be of any benefit is to pay holding against a tackling player who makes the initial tackle and then when the ball pops free scoops if back in and holds it under the pack. But I am sure that is too complicated.

The people saying "leave the game alone!" are probably the old women that sit behind me at the footy yelling "just kick the bloody thing!" and then "why did you kick it there for??" when it gets turned over.

Contrary to popular belief, we didn't invent pressure or defensive zones. These elements have been prevalent in the game for awhile now.
