Probably my favourite part of SoOState of Origin XX, Round 1: South Australia (14.11.95) d Vic Metro (14.10.94), at the Melbourne Cricket Ground
State of Origin - Round 1: Vic Metro vs South Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground
Neither squad made the Grand Final last season. Vic Metro finished bottom of the table on 1 win and South Australia finished third on 2 wins from the carnival. Last time the two clubs met South Australia ran away with the win courtesy of 9 goals from Brenton Davy SA sprint away from Vic Metro...www.bigfooty.com
The twentieth edition of SOO has begun poorly, with the barest of losing margins being endured by the only team that matters in the only match that mattered (I think there was another game being contested for the 'Who Cares Cup', but it's beneath any good Melburnian to pay the slightest attention to that).
The blame cannot be laid at the feet of our midfield, with NaturalDisaster (10 hit outs, 28 disposals, 2 tackles, and 3 goals) putting in a magnificent effort, only just shaded by BOG beez, whose 21 disposals were accompanied by 11 tackles to demonstrate the value of defensive effort; the only downside to his game was wayward kicking for goal, with just the 2 behinds. PhenomenalV1 also put in a fantastic display of two way running, with 8 tackles to go with his 13 disposals and a goal. kickthething (19 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles) was involved in everything through the centre, with our outside runners in nobbyiscool (22 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles) and Senor M (16 disposals, 2 tackles, 1 goal 1 behind) keeping busy throughout the match. From the bench, sportsmaniac89 was a solid contributor with 10 disposals and 2 marks, though okeydoke7 struggled to get involved in the match, having almost as many donuts on the field as he did on the bench, registering only a single Free For (yet not a disposal to go with it).
Up forward, spearhead gab213 showed just how much he despises the West Horshamites with 5 goals 1 behind (from 6 disposals, and also registering 2 tackles to keep the ball locked in F50), with tgrs (2 goals 1 behind from 3 kicks, with 1 handball and a tackle) showing some craftiness at the pointy end, and JackNah_8 (10 disposals and 5 marks) working hard to link the forward line to the midfield. At CHF, nahnah's kicking let him down, with 3 behinds from 10 disposals (1 mark, 2 tackles), though there was plenty of run from Blaze Storm (7 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal 1 behind) and myblueroan (7 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal) from the flanks.
Down back, Bovo was engaged in a tussle with the SA FF all match, though was still able to counter attack with 9 disposals and 2 marks. In the pockets, Elmer_Hauser (3 disposals, 1 mark) was quiet, though cooney (12 disposals, 5 marks, and a foray forward to kick a behind) never stopped trying. DemonJim threatened the match committee due to not being named on the bench, though still put in a shift at CHB with 12 disposals, 9 marks, and a tackle, with Gralin (9 disposals, 1 tackle) doing his best to provide some support on the HBF. James Colorado continued his regular season form, registering 18 pretty useless disposals and 4 of the softest marks you will ever see to once again stat pad while not actually doing anything, in a fine display of what he describes as "leadership".
