True, but you could argue that a team is only in contention for a new ladder position after rounds that it plays in.
Not sure about that, a team could move up the ladder in a round it hasn't played in.

Mystery table
Richmond 10
North Melbourne 6
Footscray 4
Essendon 3
Geelong 3
Hawthorn 3
Collingwood 2
South Melbourne 2
St. Kilda 1
Fitzroy N/A
Carlton N/A
Melbourne N/A

as at the end of 1981, the last year of a fully Victorian VFL.

One month on, it doesn't seem as though anyone can decipher this table. What was the answer?

Freo had never even topped the ladder midway through a round prior to this. Every other club except GC and GWS has done it at least once since 2005.

Every club will have played at the Adelaide Oval by the end of 2014.

Essendon is the only club to not play at Metricon Stadium (Carrara) in 2013 or 2014 (did play there in 2012).

By the end of 2014, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon and Melbourne will have still never played at Aurora Stadium / York Park (Launceston).

By the end of 2014, Brisbane, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn and Richmond will have still never played at Manuka Oval / StarTrack Oval (Canberra).
- Geelong played North Melbourne there in 2003 and 2006.
- Collingwood played North Melbourne there once in 2001.

By the end of 2014, Brisbane, Fremantle, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs will have still never played at Spotless Stadium / Sydney Showground Stadium.

May have missed something, but I believe North Melbourne at Manuka is the only side to win their first 3 games at a non-Melbourne venue against a non-local opponent. Port at Adelaide Oval can equal that in Round 4 against Brisbane.

Winning starts at a non-Melbourne venue:

Geelong at Kardinia Park: WL
Fitzroy at North Hobart: WL
West Coast at the WACA: WWL
West Coast at Subiaco: WL
Adelaide at Football Park: WL
Brisbane Lions* at the GABBA: WWL
North Melbourne at Manuka Oval: WWWL (3 wins)
Hawthorn at York Park: WWL
Gold Coast at Cazaly Stadium: WWL
North Melbourne at Bellerive/Blundstone: WL
Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval: WWWWWWWWL (8 wins)

*having previously played at the GABBA as the Brisbane Bears

updated for Round 15 (Adelaide v Port)

Knew I'd forget to check something. Let's see how long Port's run can go at Adelaide Oval.

Also North won its first seven home games at the SCG.

actually, North Melbourne lost their first home game at the SCG against Footscray Hawthorn in 1979

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/1979/101219790610.html

Found some more:
Fitzroy at the SCG: WL (1903 v Collingwood, 1979 v Richmond)
Essendon at the GABBA: W (1981 v Hawthorn)
Fremantle* at Carrara: W (2009 v Carlton)

Geelong also won their first two games at the SCG (1903 v Carlton, 1981 v Melbourne), although they were split by an away win to South Melbourne in 1980.

Some clubs won their first 1 (North Melbourne), 2 (St Kilda) or 3 (Adelaide) games at Carrara when not playing against QLD sides, but they had all already played Brisbane there.

*Fremantle never played Brisbane at Carrara, then won their first game there v Carlton in 2009, and are 2/2 there against Gold Coast.

Observed in round 2 2014

14 a popular number with Tigers and Blues.

Bombers stuck in the 80s vs Hawks.

Saints have won as many in their last four as they did in the previous 21.

Power scoring higher more regularly vs Crows

Dockers register a low not seen since 1991 effort by other Sandgroper.

Magpies and Swans both do their 99th best.

Cats get back to even at the Gabba.

West Coast bust Fitzroy's record against Melbourne.

Dogs and Roos do stuff they haven't done together in over 60 years.

Not an observation but a suggestion Paul.

With the big lists on your website, what about ranking a player by average score for, against and average margin per player?

Deledio's injury after 140 consecutive games ends the equal 21st longest all-time sequence, leaving Josh (P) Kennedy as the competition leader.

109 Josh Kennedy (Sy)
100 Jarrad Redden
95 Dean Cox
85 Scott Thompson (Ad)
79 Nick Dal Santo
68 Drew Petrie

21st? AFL Season Guide has it down at 28th.

Ah, I see the AFL has changed the rules again. ;)

Schulz, Murray, Doull, Murphy, Ruthven and Bartlett x 2 are new to me. The AFL now appears to keep sequences intact when players are absent from club games on state duty (while including the state match in the sequence).

Perhaps they'll let Keith Greig back in the 300 club?
