This is a teaser for a table that I will post after the Grand Final.

Carlton have played 5 grand finals on September 26 and won them all.
Collingwood have played 4 grand finals on September 24 and did not win any of them.
Collingwood have lost grand finals on every day between September 23 and October 2.

Collingwood has played in 29 Grand Finals that they did not win. Carlton and Essendon have each only played in 29 grand finals.

I bet today's grand final has some interesting statistics.

What a beautiful grand final set of numbers.
Pies banner broke. An omen the Colliwobbles were returning.
The pies runner got in the way of a player, finding another twist in story in last time runner can be on ground in general play. Next year only after a goal can runner be on.
Just like 1979 grand final they kick first 5 goals of game to have all the running.
Just like 1979 grand final they lose by 5 points.
The final winning score is.. 79
Both teams kicked 11 goals in grand final , just like the 1979 grand final thriller.

Was thinking that those scores correlated almost exactly like 1979's, with the exception that it was extremely muddy in '79, probably the muddiest GF in the televised era. Contrast that to the wet 2009 GF when the grass remains intact, but just slippery.

One could argue that the 2018 GF had it's 'Harmes' moment too, the non-call of the shepherd against the Pie defender (which you could almost lay-down misere expect a free against up until the GF) may be just as controversial as the Harmes hit back into play....although the mess of streamers and debris in that '79 game (another relic of the past) would have obscured the line significantly.

I doubt too many other sides have lost a GF, let alone two GF's from a 5-0 goal head start.

I wonder how the premiership ladder will look in years to come. Eagles are now level with North and will probably draw level with the Swans 5-5 or 6-6. Hawthorn will probably move up to 3rd eventually. Will GWS win a couple in the next 10 years?

If Shiel stays with GWS I'd back them to win their first next year. Surely their luck of injuries at finals time is on the favourable side next time. Apart from that, all I care about is us getting out of our own longest drought early next decade and getting back to outright lead on 17. Enjoying the race to it though. It was fun seeing Collingwood think they could possibly get equal on 16 and remain on 15 :)

Still unknown ...
First Grand Final as Coach:
Mick Malthouse - 187th Game
Nathan Buckley - 162nd Game
First Grand Final Win as Coach:
Mick Malthouse - 212th Game
Nathan Buckley - Buckley's chance.

I'm just happy that Richmond remain on 11, 2 behind us still; & that Collingwood never added to their tally of 15.....Good Times X2

Will tonight's #NRLGF add 2018 to the list of close grand finals in both codes?

YEAR | AFL | NRL
\ 2006 | 1 | 7
YEAR | VFL | NRL | | YEAR | VFL | NRL
\ 1989 | 6 | 5 | | 1964 | 4 | 5
\ 1979 | 5 | 4 | | 1948 | 0 | 3
\ 1977 | 0 | 0 | | 1947 | 1 | 4
\ 1971 | 7 | 6 | | 1932 | 9 | 7
\ 1968 | 3 | 4 | | 1911 | 6 | 3
\ 1967 | 9 | 2 | | 1908 | 9 | 2

Prior to this year 1937 was the last time Coll defeated Rich in a final and the last time scores were level in a Grand Final (Geel v Coll) at three quarter time.

Like the similarities with ‘79 we went on to lose the next two.

Deserves a list of teams kicking first x goals in grand finals and losing...

According to the Sporting Globe report on Trove of the 1937 grand final, Collingwood were also 5 goals ahead of Geelong during the first quarter, but this was a case of Collingwood 6 goals to Geelong 1.

The Logie Award for Most Popular Sports Program was axed, now the NRL Footy Show has been axed.

Will the AFL Footy Show be next? Maybe it lasts one more year (one year too long).

Logie Award for Most Popular Sports Program

11 - NRL Footy Show (2000, 2005–07, 2009–10, 2013-17)
8 - The AFL Footy Show (1996-98, 2002-04, 2008, 2011

The AFL has long been the 4th-best attended sports league in the world by average attendance

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports_attendance_figures#Top_10_leagues_in_average_attendance

We are not too far behind the EPL. I wonder if we can snag 3rd spot one year, and if we could remain there.

All about population disparity surely.....I'm sure given a head-head comparison, based on %'s of population, that Oz Rules would come in first without any trouble at all.

I notice there are three "gap" years - 1999, 2001 and 2012.

Who won the Logie Award in these years?
