Found a simple quirk of statistical detail while browsing through matches in 1970 - Rnd 1 St Kilda v North Melbourne
https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1970/121519700404.html

The player with most disposals for each club in that match was a ruckman.
Not something that happens every day !

Barry Goodingham (NM) 29 [19k 10hb]; and Bob Pascoe (StK) 27 [11k 16hb] equal with Jeff Moran.

Alastair Clarkson has signed on to the end of 2022. This will take him to:
10th - total games coached
12th - H&A games coached

To make top 10 in other categories, he needs:
55 - H&A wins
49 - wins
2 - finals
2 - finals wins
2 - finals losses

He needs 1 more premiership to be considered truly elite. 12 coaches have 4 premierships, just 4 men have 5.

The AFL has long been the 4th-best attended sports league in the world by average attendance

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports_attendance_figures#Top_10_leagues_in_average_attendance

We are not too far behind the EPL. I wonder if we can snag 3rd spot one year, and if we could remain there.

Best chance for that is GWS & Brisbane Lions growing their crowds to 30,000 odd... Can it happen? Brisbane's crowds should be improving the next few years, and so should GWS for that matter.

On track to start next season with the same 18 coaches as started this season. A rarity I think.

Also there will be 7 premiership coaches amongst them which is (possibly) an equal high with 2007, doubt if it's ever been bettered.

Clarkson 4
Beveridge 1
Hardwick 1
Longmire 1
Scott 1
Simpson 1
Worsfold 1

If Jack Hombsch plays one game with Gold Coast, he'll be the first VFL/AFL player to play for Port Adelaide, Gold Coast and GWS.
Jack Hombsch holds some weird records. Most otbaly the playing at the most grounds one.

Jonathan Giles GWS (NSW), Essendon (Vic), West Coast (WA), never played for Port Adelaide in his home state (SA) despite four years on their list, two SANFL premierships with Centrals and a B&F at Sturt

All 3 coaches who have won the last 3 premierships were Clarkson protegees....immediately following in the footsteps of his own historical 3-peat.

Reckon that would have to be a first.

Hawthorn & Clarkson have fairly well established themselves as the proxy coaching academy to the AFL.

Last Time Geelong Played Exactly x Home Games at Kardinia Park or Corio Oval:

7 home games - 2017
8 home games - 2016
9 home games - 2018
10 home games - 1996
11 home games - never

In 1981, Geelong played a home game at the SCG (v ME).
In 1969, Geelong played all of their home games in Geelong (10 of 20), the last time they did so.
1n 1952, Geelong played a home game at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground (v ES).
Something interesting with this - I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying that Geelong has (outside of finals, which are different of course) never hosted an interstate team at either the MCG or Docklands. However, they did host an interstate team at Waverley once in a home and away fixture.

Don't look it up and spoil the fun - does anyone know who that team was, and what year it was?

That would have been back in the era where clubs were allocated 3-4 H & A games out at Waverley Park....So I'm tipping it's either West Coast or Sydney.

Whilst glancing through my copy of the 2016 premiership publication Against All Odds yesterday, I noticed it stated that the 2016 grand final attracted 4.089 million viewers on the Seven Network. It is then stated that only three other grand finals have had more TV viewers: 1996, 2005 and 2006.
If the 2017 and 2018 grand finals did not surpass 4.089 million viewers, it means the four highest rating grand finals have all featured Sydney.

I doubt Crawford scored 26 Brownlow votes against the Hawks. I think you mean against Geelong.

In 1994, Essendon, as the reigning premier, needed 7 games until they kicked their first century score of the season. Since then, 5 games have been required by a reigning premier to post a century score in 1997 (North Melbourne), 1999 (Adelaide), 2006 (Sydney) and 2016 (Hawthorn).
Prior to 1994, the previous reigning premier who needed 5 games to register a century score had again been Essendon in 1966. Before this, Hawthorn in 1962 kicked no century scores at all. The season before, Melbourne had taken 5 games to register a century, whilst Collingwood needed 6 games in 1959, Melbourne took 5 in 1957 and 9 in 1956, whilst Essendon needed 8 games in 1951.
Going further backwards, Collingwood in 1931 (6 games) had been the previous reigning premier who took 5 games or more to reach their first century. From 1924 back to 1897, it is then quite common to see reigning premiers take 5 or more games to post a century, or indeed not kick a century at all. Before Hawthorn kicked no centuries in 1962, the previous reigning premier to record this feat had been Fitzroy in 1923.

hence why the AFL want the Swans in the finals every year and to hell with other teams
