Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

And how many kicks has a player gone before one is not a goal? I remember Metropolis kicked four goals in his first 4 kicks to start his AFL career.

Marcus Baldwin from Geelong went 3 for 3 against Melbourne in R21, 2000 then only had two more from ten kicks in his next four games. Whoops.

Troy Broadbridge was another odd one. Missed with his first actual kick, but was given a 50m penalty for an offence as he was kicking it and nailed the first one that counted.

Clen Denning (Fitzroy) in his first game, R4 1935.

The announcement at last night's Brownlow that Judd's five consecutive BOG's was a first, was incorrect. Brent Harvey (2007) and Justin Madden (1985) achieved it previously.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

After watching the Collingwood versus Geelong Preliminary Final where the Magpies won by 41 points despite being outscore for the last two quarters, I have compiled the following data:
  1. the biggest win by a team losing both the third and final quarters is 59 points by Essendon against West Coast in 1996
  2. the biggest win by a team losing both the second and third quarters is 72 points by West Coast against the Western Bulldogs in 1999
  3. the biggest win by a team losing both the first and second quarters is 86 points by Carlton against Fitzroy in 1993
  4. the biggest win by a team losing both the first and last quarters is 68 points by Richmond against Footscray in 1989
  5. the biggest win by a team losing any two quarters is 97 points by Hawthorn against Adelaide in 1994 (I have it and it was still an amazing performance)

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

I remember that game well.

I want footage of David Wojcinski's goal from that match...longest goal ever :thumbsu:

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Got it on one of my YouTube videos:

0:52. Clearly behind half way when he kicks it.

Awesome! People have been thinking I'm crazy for the best part of a decade

I'll show them!

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Biggest comeback after an idiot commentator saying "No Judd, No Eagles" was the 2006 Geelong v WCE game at Kardinia Park. Ah - those were the days.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

^ Interesting stats there mate :thumbsu:

1. Last time Collingwood won the minor and major premiership: 1930

2. St Kilda's record as minor premier and grand final winner: 0/3

3. St Kilda's record as minor premier runner-up and major premier: 1/1

4. St Kilda's finals record against Collingwood the last 5 times they have met: 5-0.

5. St Kilda's finals record against Collingwood is 6 from 9, or 66.6% :)

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Between Round 17, 1925 and Round 2, 1932, North Melbourne won just 3 matches, possibly the worst streak I have seen. 111 games, 3 wins.

That's just 2.7% of games won in that period of time.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Brian Royal lead Fitzroy's disposal count in 1984 and received one Brownlow vote.

But of all players, Barry Mitchell was most robbed of Brownlow votes and possibly a few Brownlow's.

1986: Possessions: 449. Best Game: 32 possessions vs. Collingwood. Goals kicked: 27. VOTES: TWO!

1987: Possessions: 503. Best Game: 38 possessions vs. Essendon. Goals kicked: 37. VOTES: THREE!

1988: Possessions: 616. Best Game: 40 possessions vs. Hawthorn. Goals kicked: 35. VOTES: THREE!

1989: Possessions: 547. Best Game: 43 possessions vs. West Coast. Goals kicked: 17. VOTES: ONE!

1990: Possessions: 469. Best Game: 40 possessions vs. Richmond. Goals kicked: 19. VOTES: THREE!

1991: Possessions: 689. Best Game: 46 possessions vs. Adelaide. Goals kicked: 30. VOTES: GOOSE EGG!

1992: Possessions: 652. Best Game: 38 possessions vs. Footscray. Goals kicked: 18. VOTES: ONE!

1994: Possessions: 513. Best Game: 45 possessions vs. Richmomd. Goals kicked: 19. VOTES: SIX!

Between 1986-1992 and 1994, he gathered 4438 disposals over 166 games, an average of 26.7 disposals a game. And for what? NINETEEN GODDAMN BROWNLOW VOTES! That's less than Ben Cousin's winning total in 2005! And he gathered 612 disposals that year, less than Barry Mitchell in 1988, 1991 and 1992, and all he got was four votes! Umpires have no shame in Sydney!

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Collingwood won the 1910 Grand Final in October.

Actually, looks like Collingwood have won a few Grand Finals in October.

1910, 1919, 1927, 1930, 1935, 1936, 1990, 2010 (?), 2011 (?)

2010 (Un)Grand Final – Trivia

1) 24 pts. St Kilda's highest 1/2 time deficit to force a draw.

2) 24 pts. Collingwood's greatest 1/2 time lead in a match they drew.

3) Only the 4th time that the 3/4 time margin in consecutive Grand Finals has been less than 9 pts. All pairs have involved Collingwood or St Kilda.

4) 15th time that the team leading at 1/4 and 1/2 time did not win the Grand Final (including the two previous draws.)

5) Only the 2nd time that the team leading at 1/4 and 1/2 time did not win the Grand Final in consecutive years.

They actually won 10 in that period. Worst streak over 111 games is 6 by St.Kilda from the start of 1897.

Can we add 3/4 time to that?
