  1. In 1996 there were 10 matches with drawn 1st quarters. In 1994 there were none. (10 are the most in any one season. There were 6 in 2010 and there have been 2 in 2011)

  2. The highest number of matches even at ½ time in a season was 8 in 2007. (The last year where there were none was 1976. There have been 3 so far in 2011.)

  3. The highest number of matches even at ¾ time in a season was 5 in 1947. (There were none in 2003 and 2004 but 4 in 2009 and 2010. There have been none in 2011)

  4. There have been 11 matches even at ¼ and ½ time. No season has had more than 1 occurrence. The last 2 were in 2008 and 2004. Both matches between Geelong and WB/Footscray.

  5. Only 5 matches even at ¾ time have ended in draws. The most recent being St Kilda v Hawthorn in 2010. Previous: Carlton v WB/Footscray in 1974.

In 1995 Gary Ablett kicked 122 goals without achieving 10 goals in any game. This is the highest seasonal total to not include a 10 goal haul, with Ablett's highest effort being 9.

The highest total of goals in a season in which 8 was the biggest haul is 103 by Doug Wade (North Melbourne in 1974) and Malcolm Blight (North Melbourne in 1982).

The highest total of goals in a season in which 7 was the biggest haul is 97 by Peter Daicos (Collingwood) in 1990.

The highest total of goals in a season in which 6 was the biggest haul is 79 by Leigh Matthews (Hawthorn) in 1983.

Unsure what the highest total of goals in a season is where 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 were the biggest hauls.
Any of you database kings able to quickly assist with this?

Gold Coast lead Geelong 9.8 to 8.3 at 1/2 time

- 3rd Most Points In 2nd Quarter
- 3rd Most Points In Any Half

The line pre-game was 64.5. Cats are now $1.15 for the win. Gold Coast's best loss was 57 points against the Crows.

After that first quarter, I can't believe Gold Coast couldn't lose by less than 57 and that Geelong covered the line (just).

  • 166.93% Collingwood's highest percentage after 9 matches since 171.95% in 1905.

  • St Kilda is the only team to have defeated Fremantle 3 times at Subiaco Oval since 2008.

  • The last 4 seasons (2008-2011) Geelong has won 33 of their first 36 matches.

  • 644 pts: Collingwood's lowest tally of points after 9 matches conceded since 576 in 1967.

  • 679 pts: Hawthorn's lowest points conceded after 9 matches since 664 points in 1974.

Fascinating, and a good idea for a trivia table. Collingwood play on the Gold Coast in Round 18, which will likely eliminate Didak and four other Magpies from the top of the '6 venues' list.

Yeah, I did that first list too, reckoning those two were the most interesting.

Also wondered if any were longies at getting to the 19, Andrew Embley's 15 is the best of 2011's mob, he doesn't have Marrara or the Sydney Showground (obviously). Cazaly's is at least remotely possible for 18.

What would be the next grounds to host an AFL match? There's Cazaly's Stadium later this year then Adelaide Oval in 2015. Of course current players may get to play at one of the existing grounds that they have yet to: Marrara, Gold Coast, Homebush, Manuka, York Park.

Brilliant tidbits there from all here, Worbold especially with state of origin figures, Bill Mohr especially did not know he'd kicked so many goals in those games.

Mentioning a player that's been mentioned before, but if Travis Varcoe is selected for Geelong this week and if Geelong defeat the Dogs, he'll have been involved in FIVE separate sequences of 10+ wins in a row. Would many others have played in such a sequence before? Might be a hard one to collate, but it's quite a unique sequence he's accumulating, with 74 wins and 11 losses so far in his 85 game career.

Much appreciated Ron the Bear!

Quite amazing that five would be a record...Michael Tuck for example has played in 302 wins, although the Hawks seemed to do their wins in streaks of 8 and 9.

Overlooked that some other Cats may have been in the same boat. Varcoe's been in moderate form, so not sure if he's a lock to play next week.

And thanks again for the addendum too RTB, Max Rooke, he played the last round of 2006 against Hawthorn and was part of that side that was towelled by over 10 goals. Two years later, his next defeat is also at the hands of Hawthorn in the 2008 Grand Final.

Someone else mentioned on another thread..the away sides won 7 of the 8 games this week. Those who forgot to put their tips in would be thanking their lucky stars.

Grand Final Rematch:


1) There have been 111 Grand Final rematches. The reigning Premiers have won 60, the previous season’s Runners-up have won 48. Three have been drawn.

2) St Kilda has won 66.66% of their Grand Final rematches – Collingwood 43.59% of theirs.

3) The greatest difference in ladder position at the time of the rematch is 10 places: Round 2 1959, Premiers Collingwood 12th, Runners-up Melbourne 2nd. (Melbourne won 13.14-92 to 12.7-79.) Round 13 1991, Premiers Collingwood 12th, Runners-up Essendon 2nd. (Collingwood won 11.10-76 to 10.14-74.) Round 3 1998, Premiers Adelaide 3rd, Runners-up St Kilda 13th. (St Kilda won 12.10-82 to 8.12-60.)

4) The biggest reversal in a result is 136 points. Richmond won the 1980 Grand Final by 81 points. Collingwood won the round 10 1981 rematch by 55 points.

Thanks to RTB's research, today now sees a new record set. Travis Varcoe, Joel Corey and James Kelly become the only players to participate in FIVE different sequences of 10 or more wins in succession. That number presumably could increase if Geelong keep this current sequence going, as others who have missed a game or two such as Selwood, S.Johnson etc would also join in.

Quite a unique stat really.
